Self-Sustainability & Growing Food versus Government Policy

When we talk about solutions to the worlds problems often times self-sustainability and permaculture tend to be a hot topic, the ticket, and almost a given. But again, I ask you, how do you protect it? If you have no contract or don't control your contract and find yourself subject to the arbitrary nature of someone elses contract, i.e. the Constitution under the 14th amendment, etc...
