Sagacity Garden

Follow along as I create a backyard garden learning to plant seasonally, work within a budget, cut my grocery costs, compost with worms, work within organic parameters, buy chickens and ultimately take personal responsibility for a change I know I can make that supports our future.

Not Far From The Tree

Hey Evolver Toronto!

Just wanted to bring an amazing organization I found online to light for everyone! The organization is called "Not Far from the Tree" and for anyone who hasn't heard of it they go around Toronto/GTA and harvest crops such as apples from abandoned orchards or for people who are not able to harvest themselves!

Organic veggie gardens for every income level - need support!

I submitted an idea I had for a small business to the Pepsi Refresh Project, which was just accepted. (It involves veggie garden installation loosely based on the "gift economy" model.) I need votes now. If anyone would like to check it out and possibly cast a vote, here is the link: http://www.refresheverything.com/foodfromlawns

This time he talks about why he calls his 2000 square foot organic vegetable garden "Deep Fork Gardens," introducing us to his two favorite human powered tools and why he prefers them to petroleum powered machines.

Sharing tips from your garden

Does anyone want to share any tips from their gardens....

I recently learned how to ferment tomatoe seeds to extract them for storing and creating a seed bank.

1. Squeeze the seeds out into a jar.
2. Fill the jar with a little water, roughly 1/4 of the jar.
3. Leave on a warm window seal until the surface of the water turns to into a scummy layer. This might take up to a week or so.
