About 7 years ago I discovered the practice of kirtan. Over the years I've done a lot of chanting, mostly on my own but also with others. I've also done a lot of no chanting or no practice at all. Both I think are good for learning and honoring our humanity. With the push and pull of heart and ego there are moments when I realize and know what I need to do.
A very large obstacle to living a positive and expansive existence is one's self, the small self, the ego. The ego positions itself as all knowing, and benevolent. It's watching out for you, making everything about you. But in all truth it is really just getting in the way.
