Imagine:

A “network of autonomous” communities operating a collaborative system of sustainable agriculture, local craft commerce, pedestrian travel, holistic health, arts, decentralized education and inexpensive, creatively built structures.

Now what?

social investment plan

I am working on the beginning inklings of a theory for a much more rational economic structure. Instead of the current system wherein profit is expected to be maximized due to fiduciary responsibility to investors, we could all become micro-investors in businesses that we believe would improve our communities. Thus, the person/people having the idea for solving a community need would create a business plan with all the pertinent information of exactly what, how, where, who, and how much start-up would cost. They would post their information to a web-site set up for this purpose, where people could shop for where they would like to invest very small sums. Like the online small contributions to political campaigns, small amounts each from large numbers of people would grow into useful capital. The amounts would be so small, that if the business did not make a profit, not much would be lost. If the business happily succeeds, a percentage of the profit would be distributed among the investors based on their individual investment shares. Or is this already being done? If so, please send me the link.

If not, please let me know what you think, in detail. I want to explore, expand, and work out the kinks for this.

The Zeitgeist Movement and a Resource Based Economy

This is already being done by The Zeitgeist Movement. See the film Zeitgeist Addendum, which you can watch online for free.

Also, read its accompanying pdf document: http://www.thezeitgeistmovement.com/The%20Zeitgeist%20Movement.pdf

well we are starting with the building

of structures and communities.
Check out my friends here : http://omfield.org/

The collaborative system in my dream is a sustainable bus transport system between communities allowing trade of resources, people{and their skills}.
Now which communities want to participate?
I say we find them and have a dream festival where we pool creative vision. I know of two places that would hold this festival with great gratitude and respect for the magic of possibility.

As for after it....the world will turn over again and the new paradigm will giggle infant happiness still to fall and get up and learn and grow.....but that first giggle! woa thats a gem.

can you spare some change????
I mean can you give me another 2 cents :)

Economy and transportation, yes.

Social investment in local businesses seems to be in the planning stages - it's called the "Main Street Stock Echange." There is an author from around Santa Fe, Woody Tasch, who wrote "Slow Money" and founded a slow money alliance. The book is not great, but it did introduced the local stock market idea. Libramoon, your idea to use the internet as a tool for the exchange is good, since it would avoid administrative costs and corruption. This seems like something anyone can start with a good lawyer and financial advisor.
Santa Fe and Taos? There are trains to Albuquerque for damn cheap. $6 a day! This isn't too common, but other areas have county buses too.
What, no Zeitgeist chapter in the western US?

Where is the ideal location to birth effective change?
