i've seen a lot of posts on how enlightening AVATAR was, how hollywood, or someone, or some cabal inside hollywood was trying to slip a message of enlightenment to the masses in this time of transition. I think we give "them" too much credit on this aspect.

Although this aforementioned theory may true, let us keep in mind it is hollywood and therefore they will only push what will make money, what will make money is what is popular.
If the masses want Jersey Shore, American Idol, and UFC (all of which are absolutely horrid) that is what they will get.
but i think there are so many of us, on evolver and beyond, who are so into "turning on" that they cannot help but to shift their paradigm to more enlightenment-based products. If we keep peace, love, and understanding in our minds and in our actions then peace, love and understanding will emerge in our environment.

What i'm getting at is that it is a reciprocal loop, we conjure what we want, they give us what they think we want, we ingest it and build upon it, hopefully in an increasingly positive manner. and IT IS WORKING. this is the only true way to combat evil and ignorance, through the proliferation and support of positive ideas and actions. the world is still shitty, people are still dying unfairly, there's still war and greed. but i've notice the apathy and blissful ignorance is crumbling. everyday people are "turning on" and demanding a better world. bit by bit.

there was a time that they duped the masses by inundating the masses with sex, greed, hard drugs, and violence, trying to convince us that this is what we wanted... and for a while we were tricked and thus thrown into the mini dark ages we are now trying surface from. now we are all a bit wiser, and aware of thier tricks and refusing anything but what we all know we need. 2012 comes closer everyday and we all know it and therefore we don't have the time to waste on anything but that which will help us evolve. recognizing this is hollywood, it will do anything to make a buck. that does sound cynic but due to OUR shepherding of what we want, we can make this commercialism into outlet FOR OUR inspiration and enlightenment, thus movies like avatar, philosophical programs like LOST. that highlight the human condition and the advancement thereof.

hope this makes sense, either way let me know how you percieve this essay.

The thing that struck me

Was how similar Avatar's storyline is to other movies I've seen... & less about how revolutionary & groundbreaking it is.

Sooo similar to: the Japanese anime film Mononoke Hime (aka: Princess Mononoke). On IMDB there's at least one forum discussion of people pointing out all the similarities.

Other people have singled out 'Pocahontas' & 'Dances with Wolves'.

I think it's simply a story that's been told before, & whose time has come again.

Nothing to freak out about, imho.

Namaste all.

yeah, absolutely. i heard it

yeah, absolutely. i heard it could have been called pocahontas 2.0
i didn't see it, and probably not going to, like you said 'been there, done that' people (with all due respect) seem to have a tendency to over-sensationalize things on this site. i included it in this essay because of everyone's responses about it on this site. like the one post about it being a transmission from the 'goddess'. (?) ...let's pump the brakes a bit....
i feel their hearts are in the right place but yeah, the more i hear about it the less i want to see it.

And reasonable response Good Sir. Your view forced me to take a second look at my own perspective on the subject and I have to admit, I am a bit of an idealist and maybe I do need to slow down in my own philosophical rants. Self-awareness is key to self-development and I think you may have aided me in that quest. Danke!

no sweat, i think a

no sweat, i think a dispassionate look in the mirror, as leary once said, is the best tool for advancement. we don't always have to look toward psychedelics, essays, afterlife, aliens, etc for advancement, sometimes its only a inward gaze...

Well, I don't really know

Well, I don't really know how I perceive your essay. I'm with you on one thing though: Hollywood is just regurgitating ideas that suit a lot of people about preserving nature, about human unity, and things like that. It's giving the people what they want, you're absolutely right about that.

Not that those are bad ideas.

But the fact remains that they are packaged in a film that was created by means so COMPLETELY OPPOSITE of those notions.

Even Evolvers who loved the movie refuse to see that. And these are people who pride themselves on being awake. That really gets my goat.

Plus, I look at it this way. If this were a film that were *truly* genuine about its ideals, then why the hell are people fighting about it everywhere? You look around the internet, you'll see what I mean. Had the movie been made through means that live up to the ideals, I think it would be a different story.

Alas, it was not. That's why it's creating internal aggression. It's still a $300 million dollar movie during an economic crisis. Does that seem like something we should promote?

You know what's weird? People who hated the movie, they get stonewalled. All right, understandable... but so are the people who WONT see the movie. That bugs me out. Like you're not entitled to an opinion if you don't see the film. Like you're completely paranoid if you don't just plug yourself in.

People talk about this movie like it's this innocent child that just DESERVES a chance.

Didn't I already give it a chance when I saw the trailer? Is that not the point of a trailer? To give you a taste of the movie so you can decide for yourself?

I don't owe this film anything. I will *never* see this movie.

That is a bold statement coming from me. I love movies, and I care very much about what film has the potential to do. That's precisely why I refuse to see this film. It's something nasty that's been packaged to look pretty. You buy a ticket, you fall for it.

After all, the whole point is getting our asses into those theater seats. By any means necessary. How we feel about it is irrelevant in that sequence.

I look at this like a battle. If I see it, I lose. I lose fifteen dollars, I lose 3 hours... and most importantly, I lose whatever objective ideas I had about the film prior to subjecting myself to it.

I would never be able to get those things back.

3D films are a form of mass-hypnosis. We need people who refuse to plug in. It is contrast, and it is necessary.

*steps off soap-box*

Thanks for the blog, I enjoyed it.

(Edit) PS: The problem with giving the people what they want, in this case, is that what most people want is a world where they don't have to think beyond a certain point. But then again, if that's what people want, they are certainly getting it.

i like your thoughts, you

i like your thoughts, you make a good point that i whole-heartedly agree with. all this money spent for a movie (although i'm sure they've recouped many times over by now) that will be dvd'd, rerun, marketed like every movie before it for the 20 odd years. we can get the same if not more of a level of enlightenment out of a used paperback, meditating by a stream, or (gasp_ heaven forbid) an actual conversation that opens up dialogue.

that is why i like this site though, even though people disagree with each other on this site, ( a lot disagree with me ;)- it is still constructive and hopefully throws ideas back and forth and grows positive thinking, which i think for the most part it does.
