By chance this week I stumbled upon a video that I adore. It's a conversation over coffee with two of my favorite minds; Terence Kemp Mckenna & Ram Dass.

Their conversation was filled with things to giggle at, things to take on, & things to pass along. It was one of the best interviews & definitely one of the most candid free-flowing discussions I have seen in a while. (Or maybe ever. None that compare come to mind at the moment.) They also talked about the future (this video is from 1992) & it's interesting to hear them talk about a time that is happening right now.

I also loved that they touched upon revolution & it's various forms, including the importance of a non-confrontational revolution. (I wrote something on that very topic this week. I will share it as a blog post next week so you can see it.) Over-all I loved every minute of the interview as I smiled & sat on the edge of my seat. I truly felt like two people were discussing everything I find important & wish to explore.

I decided to note the exchanges between Terence Mckenna & Ram Dass‬ that I found either funny or valuable. I also listed random quotes that I enjoyed. But don't let these notes mislead you. There is still so much more to take from their discussion. I can't recommend enough for you to watch all 4 videos. They all have much to offer & the delivery of the information is quote entertaining. They both have quite a sense of humor, as does their waiter.

[I'm only permitted one picture & one video on blog posts here on Evolver. To read the entire blog post, view quotes, & see all 4 videos, please visit Sunday Is For Lovers: Click Here.]

Great post! Love both Mckenna and Ram Dass...two sages in conversation - what more could we want?

One thing I notice is that McKenna is thoroughly rooted in the 'archaic'. While the archaic is important, its also important not to be overly eco-Romantic, and privileging of some sort of back-to-Eden philosophy of disinvolvement with the modern world. Yes, there are a great deal of things wrong with modernity, but let us not forget all the important advancements that come along with it - medicine, civil rights, and more. The archaic may be an extremely influential aspect of our psyche, but that does not mean we need to entirely focus on it at the expense of all other aspects of our psyche. The future is important as well, and the present is, of course, the most important. McKenna in this seems like he is fixated in primordiality

Also... Prague Gnosis...thats clever haha

Spectrums

Love it! There's several parts to these vids... as with most McKenna - its the equivalent of psychedelic, candy coated, mental stimulation and spiritual goodness.

A lot of those modern advances, like civil rights, were reactionary evolutions. A lot of the scientific and social developments of the industrial and information ages seem born out of a need to offset detrimental cultural behaviors and attitudes of the dominator culture. This is what McKenna advocates a regression from.

I think the notion of reviving the archaic doesn't mean giving up the modern comforts of say - living in buildings. It just means we should live in buildings with solar panels and gardens on the roofs that grow our lunches.

Still, the point is valid right? We have to find a comfortable point on the spectrum of modern / archaic that isn't at either polarity. To follow the established notion of the True Self being separate from one's personality... the external layer of personality needs a lot of that modernity to navigate and communicate. The self doesn't give a shit about Twitter, the NY Yankees or your Wii. It needs as much "archaic" as you can feed it... to er, know itself... and the universe.
