What is January 2013 going to look like? Probably something like January 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 ... has anybody else come to grips with this?

I used to be really into 2012 a couple years back when I was 18 or 19 (on the ascension2012 website :: remember that !:: , I read everything on there), I used to think the World was going to end - I took a very literal translation of all 2012 related material.

When I was home in June, my Grandma questioned me "did you hear the world is going to end in 2012"? I responded "how many times have they predicted such a thing," and she followed up with "but this time it sounds more legitmate." Then she started talking about Nostradamus (cool Grandma though, you'll have to give her that) and something she saw on the History Channel.

Annnnnd the #1 reason things won't change in 2012: your Grandma tells you the world is going to end on that date (my 12 year old cousin told her).

What's your personal plan B? This is the MOST important question. What if the World already went through a literal 2012-like event and we are here in the aftermath, left to clean up the crap? There are no saviors except for ourselves.

A lot of this 2012 movement reminds me of Christian Rapture and the Singularity (Nerd Rapture). Are we placing our hope on exogenous events (pole shift, Nibiru, climate disaster etc)? What if change doesn't manifest, what if things stay stagnant? Then what? What are you going to do personally? Prepare for a soft landing folks, because things may not change as abruptly as they are supposed to - we may be pushed out of a plane, but we'll all have parachutes.

We all should have a plan B

Peace

its a possibility...

I have wondered what it would be like if nothing happened and that would suck because after Y2K, I can't handle another letdown...haha.

I think too often we get this vision in our heads of catastrophic events happening in a real short span...(at least the media feeds that idea).

I think the change has been happening for years and as we move towards 2012 it will happen faster. I also think that the death of capitalism and money is an inevitability that will bring a new world to us.

The media wants to scare us into believing that it will be the end of the world. It will--but the new one will be better.

If not, and its 2013 and nothing has changed then I am going to get the highest paying job that I can and surround myself with useless material possessions for the remainder of my life...(I'm pretty sure this won't happen. peace. david.

Yay! Someone finally said

Yay! Someone finally said it!

I mean, I say that, but keep in mind it's coming from a person who grew up hearing that the world was gonna end every couple of years... you can only believe it so many times.

My sister and I shared a bedroom when we were little -- it has two windows. We used to have a hard time sleeping because Unsolved Mysteries had us convinced we were going to be abducted by aliens.

When Y2K was about to happen, I remember my parents didn't want to buy a friggin' thing to "prepare," as it were... but I spent New Year's home alone with my best friend (we watched a South Park marathon). We lit candles in case the power went out, but of course, it didn't come to that.

I suppose what makes this different is the *amount* of people who put stock into it. But I suppose that also has to do with the amount of information available on the topic.

You know what blows my mind? Hollywood is making a movie about 2012... oh yeah, but don't expect accuracy. Word is it'll be *yet another* apocalyptic thriller... this time starring John Cusack. (Why not Tom Cruise?? Haha)

See, that makes me mad. People are so very susceptible to fear on the social level already -- panic spreads through the masses like a disease.

I've already heard enough dismal things about "what's going to happen", but the idea that Hollywood is going to try to play up the worst case scenario to make a few bucks just really pisses me off. It doesn't surprise me, no, but it angers me on the personal level. For all the ways Hollywood boasts being "ahead" of the rest of America, this proves to me (yet again) there are at least a handful of crayons missing from the box. Not all the lights are on upstairs. There are still kinks in the machine. They have their screws loose. You dig? =)

But I digress... what's my plan B? I suppose I'd have to have a plan A to begin with.

No, I don't have a plan. I refuse to live my life like it's definitely going to end. And I especially can't go along with a date that has been set in stone for all these centuries. I was never one to follow blindly... at least not for too long.

Maybe that's my plan right there -- I'm gonna walk the line in between. Hollywood won't make money off me by making me panic, nor am I going to prepare in the sense of food and supplies. I won't sit there and say there's nothing to 2012 either.

I just think if you prepare like the world's gonna end, then it might as well.

I'm more worried about two things getting out of control: the weather and the masses of panicked people.

Why should today be any different? =D

I enjoyed reading this, the discussion you had with your Gram reminds me of one I had with Mom on the topic. I'm glad someone wanted to talk about the viewpoint you *never* read about -- and I've said it before and I'll say it again -- I just hope it turns out to be some kind of Awakening in social consciousness.

If it doesn't, I'll see y'all on the Other Side!!

maybe it's CHANGE, not CATASTROPHE

you are probably right, Anopinmind. it won't be the cataclysmic end of all things.

maybe, like all prophecies the world over, is to point out to us that the world needs to change. maybe 2012 is just a pretty damn scary metaphor for an end of the world scenario.

maybe 'worlds' has to do with epochs, that is time. and that in this upcoming time humanity has the chance to change their lives for the better.

just my two cents, brother!

subject heading

// I know your blog heading was likely just an attention grabber //

I'm glad you noticed it, it worked = )

I think what it comes down to with this topic in particular (could also apply to other places) is we should be weary of a) framing things binarily (not too sure that's a word), and b) we should constantly update our paradigms as new information comes in

"There is no final revolution. Revolutions are infinite."

I don't think anything crazy

I don't think anything crazy is going to happen. A good friend of mine and I scoffed at all of the books in barnes and noble one night that had popped up like weeds. It doesn't interest me, the same as y2k didn't interest me. People were expecting the worst, I don't think anything catastrophic will happen.. maybe some one will run out of toilet paper on that date while the stores are closed, who knows.

I do think that there will be a change in consciousness, but that's going to be more gradual than everyone snapping to attention all at once. There are already plenty of people changing the way they perceive the world, events, and their own personal spiritualities and paths. Now that there's nothing really holding it back aside from other religions people are fluidly moving to what suits them. If they get their little death, their dreams of awakening, or if they just feel the compulsion to pick up that particular book on a spiritual subject that's close or is in the context of metaphysics, a spirit helper comes to them, something happens to knock their third eye open, or if it's just a drawing to it... so be it.
