Greetings friends,
Anthony here,

A quick post for those who utilize natural remedies for various ailments and open a discussion on the topic.

As the seasons have begun to shift I've noticed that my own seasonal allergies have begun to rear their congested head. For the entire summer I have not had much, if any, problems with air born pollen and mold. In past years I have had horrible seasonal allergies but as I have worked with Madre Aya the allergies have lessened quite considerably, perhaps non-existant.

Now since it has been a while since I last worked with Madre Aya they came on full force the other night at work. I work as a Park Ranger at a local park on Staten Island, however my allergies could be a range of natural, seasonal, allergies and the dust/mold found in the historic buildings I have to inspect on a daily basis. I was in bad shape, I normally take in capsule form, Stinging Nettles, Astragulus, Quercitin, Echinacea, Turmeric & a few others to boost my immune system and sinus issues.

However on this day they did squat. I had no other choice but to take a Clairitin, which I really hate doing, this was on Tuesday of this week. When I have a number of hours left on my shift and knowing I have to inspect buildings and patrol the park I needed relief.

Jessie and I have always sought to grow, and stock our herbs for cooking, medicinal & visionary purposes. We purchase our stock of teas and dried herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs, and grow what we can in our urban garden.

Yesterday was my day off and I awoke and begun the day in pretty much the same state I ended Tuesday, congested and sneezing. I use a netti pot on a daily basis but my sinus' were in bad shape.
So Jessie made me a tea that we have made in the past.
She brewed a Ginger & Hyssop Tea for my allergies and colds. We took a table spoon of dried material of each herb and brewed it in a normal size small teapot with about 24 ozs of water.

Let me tell you --It did the trick!! So from now on we will keep this on hand and in the fridge for easy access. It is much better and quite effective warm ,so if you stock it reheat it on stove or in the microwave.

My other question is, do you grow your own visionary plants? I.e. Diviners Sage?

Cheers!
Anthony

Use medicinal herbs in Brazil is normal!

Carolina Sá

In large urban areas the culture of using herbs is much smaller, but this is common in Brazil, is part of national culture. We were influenced by the native Indians and Africans. We always have a home remedy available in natural food and fairs, there are many throughout the week, there is always a tent-only medicinal herbs.
And I think they are more effective than synthetic medicines. This coupled with a good healthy diet greatly reduces the chances of allergies and illnesses.
For allergies and colds we use a tea of a native plant, Guaco (Mikania glomerata Spreng.) Is a kind of medicinal plant used against flu, hoarseness, throat infection, cough, bronchitis. It belongs to the family of compounds and their distribution as a species is native to southern Brazil, from Sao Paulo to Rio Grande do Sul - combined with ginseng, ginger and honey. Always solve.
I think this is the way forward, to find in nature our energy and cure for our physical and spiritual diseases!

I've been using herbs for most of my adult life, been studying herbalism for about ten years. I've been growing a few herbs in my small urban plots for about fifteen years.

I would advise against anyone admitting online to growing "visionary plants" as most of these are now illegal or severely restricted and the list grows almost every day that our legislators are in session and narrowing the possible scope of human experience and activities to comply with their corporate owners needs.

It might be of some interest to note that the root for our word "drug" comes from the angle-saxon "dragere" meaning to "dry". Hence any plant that is dried before ingesting can be considered a drug.

You may have notice that brewing some herbal tea was more effective than taking capsules of dried herbs. This can be considered an infusion which is a very basic form of extraction (herbs steeped in hot water for fifteen minutes).

Since most of my land is used for floral gardens and vegetable gardens, I don't have room to grow all the herbs I need to treat all the illnesses I may experience. So I use extracts from Herb Pharm - "herbal" Ed Smith which are liquid tinctures, decoctions and concoctions. I've found these to be much more effective than other extracts or dried herbs. It's a matter of how availiable to your body the compounds in the herbs are. With tableted or capsuled fresh or dried herbs your body has to digest and then 'extract' the compounds. With an extract, it's already there for your body's use.

Mountain Rose Herbs are good people too ! There is a great herbal farm in your area tho' - Bleesed Herbs in Vermont or Conneticut - I think...
