Okay, so I’ve been on Evolver for about a month or so and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone’s blogs and posted articles. Over the past six months I’ve been writing a book, which has kept me from contributing myself, but since I’m waiting for a book that I’ve ordered from Amazon in order to continue writing, I thought now was a good time to add to the free flow of ideas and expressions. Being a person who cares about and is thoroughly engaged in humanity’s evolution, I realize that I’m in very good company in this network.
Not to sound elitist, but most of us who are on here are a cut above the rest. A lot of Evolvers have gifts of perception, intuition and reasoning that go beyond what most people have and what conventional rationality can account for. As such evolved beings, I feel it is our responsibility to protect the rest of humanity and guide them to the next step of evolution. Unfortunately, there are people with the same heightened abilities that use their gifts for their personal gain. I refer to the former as “Avatars” and the latter as “Templars”. This viewpoint led to a very interesting development in my life.
The universe is a very well tuned machine, with people and events synching up all the time it ways that could surprise the uninitiated. I have noticed that synchronicity has played an increasing intrinsic role in my life, the more that I pay attention to the subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) ways in which the universe and/or God speaks to us. Interestingly enough, it is often the media that displays the most broad-reaching means through which this synchronicity is presented.
It was when discussing my ideas to someone a few years ago that I got turned onto the show, "Avatar: The Last Airbender". The show takes place in a world divided into four kingdoms based upon the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water. Some people in this world can manipulate these elements, creating gusts of wind with a swipe of their hand, or making the ground or water rise and fall to their whims. Whereas most people in this universe can control or “bend” only one element, there is the Avatar, a person who can control all four. This Avatar is reincarnated from one nation at a time, following the precession of the elements.
Not being an avid TV watcher, I didn’t pay attention to that particular cartoon; even though elemental philosophy has been an obsession of mine as far back as I can remember. I figured that the show would be campy and childish, so I ignored it, but upon the suggestion from someone with whom I was having a lively and intelligent conversation, I decided to give it a chance. I was very surprised to see incredible attention paid to kung fu and anthropology, two subjects that are very close to my heart. It was most surprising, however, to see the accurate way in which elemental bending was demonstrated. Of course, it was a little more exaggerated and displayed the control over the physical elements, but the way that the characters used them was very accurate to how one can move the energy of those elements in real life.
For those who are not into magic, or just have no idea what I’m talking about, understand that everything is made of energy, and vibrates at a different frequency. So a rock has a slower, thicker vibrational frequency than water, for instance. As living, sentient beings we can, through intent, synchronize our own biofields to vibrate at a frequency that harmonizes with the beings and objects around us. Once we’re in synch with that radiated energy, we can manipulate it.
For example, consider that the earth has an energy field that seeps from the ground like a fine, green mist. If you harmonize your biofield with that earth energy, you can summon projections of it to rise and move. It would be invisible to the human eye, but a person whose third eye is open would be able to see and even feel the molded energetic projection that you summoned. The same can be done with the energy in the air, or that which seeps up from the water. How easy it is for you to do depends on which elements most harmonize with your energy field and personality. For my money, the most interesting one is that of fire.
Fire is different because it doesn’t exist anywhere outside of your body; it comes from within. Fire is representative of your passion, your love and your convictions. It comes, quite literally, from your soul. To “bend fire” means to extend your energy field in a powerful and beautiful way, launching a stream of fiery energy outward.
Fire is the element that most harmonizes with myself; I’m an extroverted, motivated, artistic, emotive person. One who is calm, reserved, patient, easy-going and non-confrontational would be more of a water-type of person. A stubborn, calculating, rule-oriented, intransigent, reliable and thoughtful entity is an earth-type. Similarly, calling a person who is flighty, haphazard, energetic, whimsical and explorative an “air-head” isn’t an insult, it’s an assessment.
In truth we are all made up of the four elements physically and ethereally, so while one is primary, the secondary will have a considerable affect on our personality. For instance, while I may be passionate and expressive, I have a very strong logical center that keeps my emotions in check and my intentions focused, so my second element is earth, whereas a fire-type who tends to be more emotional or wishy-washy has water as their second. Your first and second elements must be in yin-yang pairs, or else it leads to emotional imbalance. A manic-depressive, bi-polar or schizophrenic would have a fire-air or air-fire elemental makeup, whereas a clinically depressed person would be water-earth or earth-water. Of course, the elements have their own yin-yang pairs. Air and fire are the yin form of yang elements; respectively, lightning and nuclear force are the hotter, more powerful versions of that energy type. Similarly, earth and water are the more flowing and looser versions of metal and ice.
I’m hoping to develop a test for people to accurately figure out their elemental makeup from a series of questions, similar to an aura test, and include it in my book. By knowing your own makeup and being able to at least guess the makeup of others, it can aid you in your interactions in life. For instance, by knowing that I am a fire-type, and knowing who in my life are air-types, I know to limit myself from spending extended time with such persons, to avoid flare-ups, or emotional lapses in judgment, as air tends to overact on fire. Earth is stubborn and intransigent; when an earth person gets stuck in a mindset, it’s usually hard to break them out of it, but not for a fire-type.
For example, when an earth-lightning type friend of mine was having a bad day at work, he called me to come in and provide him with a little sanity. He said that as soon as I entered the room, the energy I gave off softened him, and he calmed down. He elaborated that he was feeling frustrated and angry that day and was doing all he could to keep from snapping at a customer. My fiery energy cracked and softened his rough and rigid biofield, the way that ancient peoples used strategically placed fires to quarry large granite blocks.
As a massage therapist, I have used my elemental-based energy manipulation to great benefit for my clients. By summoning earth-type-chi to form a protective layer around myself, I have kept clients from draining me energetically. I’ve also used projections of fire chi to soften muscles and soothe my clients’ erratic biofields; sometimes with such great effect that I have, without applying firm pressure, actually felt large knots shrink under my hand from energy manipulation alone.
So, I encourage all of you to discover and utilize your own energetic elemental potential. Take an honest look at yourself and assess how you react to situations and how people react to you. Ask your friends and family how they would rate your personality. Once you have a clearer perception of yourself from that angle, you can better understand your relationships with others. Study the natural elements and how they act on each other and from there form and alter your interactions accordingly. Meditate upon the element that most resonates with your personality and learn to feel and utilize the energy that comes from it. I believe that if we all did this, we would have much healthier relationships, allowing each other the space to exist and relying upon each other for our strengths, not quibbling over our differences. It could allow us all to interact in a much more dynamic and inter-personal way.

Well, now I turn it to you, my fellow Evolvers. What did you think? Do you agree with my philosophies? Did you learn something new? Did I reinforce something you already believed? My writing tends to be verbose and my train of thought is more like an acrobatic jet. Was my blog easy to understand? Please let me know what you think. The only way to improve is through constructive criticism. Hopefully with enough feedback I’ll be able to write a follow-up blog to expound upon any of your thoughts and questions.

May all the blessings and light of creation be extended to all of you,

Sincerely,

Ardor – Angelus De Abeo

I found your blog

I found your blog interesting and well written. Calling Evolvers "a cut above the rest" does sound elitist, but I'm sure you meant to say "gifted". I agree that the elemental system is very useful and simple (although it can be fractally expanded indefinitely). I notice that your primary/secondary elemental classification is also used in the court cards of the Tarot. All kings are fire, all queens, water, all princes, air, and all princesses, earth. Each elemental suit contains one of each, so the princess of wands (fire) would be "earth of fire" (primary fire, secondary earth). In the tarot system though, some of the court cards double up on one element eg. the king of wands would be fire of fire. Do you think some people might manifest a very pure type of one element?

hmm...

Thank you very much. I thoroughly appreciate your evaluation, and yes, "gifted" is a better word and I think I'll try using it more. Oh, and I have to say, I have never been asked that question before. In short, my answer is no. The system that I've discovered (because I wouldn't say that I invented it, it's already "out there", I'm just picking up on it) is based on the principle of balance. The best way to explain it is by considering a furnace. Fire inside a furnace is essential to the functioning of a house, fire outside of a furnace will result in a severe lack of house. Fire needs to be contained and doused if it gets out of control.
The only thing I can relate your idea to would be the more powerful force of any element. For instance, a lightning-type person is more forceful and dynamic than a typical air-type, but they're polarized. There is no middle-ground, it's either very yes or very no. A metal-type person would be much more expressive than an earth-type, but altering their mindset would take considerably more plying. Does that make sense?

I too found your article

I too found your article interesting, affirming of my appreciation for elemental thinking, correlative with my own experience, well-written, and easy to follow. I had set an intention for myself earlier this summer to become a better writer, and my new evolver friends are giving me copious inspiration to continue. Thanks!

In the spirit of supportive criticism, I had the notion that I would like to see a table of correspondences, to reinforce what you are getting at. (I don't see that the HTML tag for table is recognized, but you might be able to do something with the code tag.) I like that you seem to be correlating the western (air-fire-water-earth) system with the eastern system (metal-water-wood-fire-earth). I have long wondered about that. And I'm a fan of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" too! (though I've only seen a few episodes so far, (I'll check hulu.com momentarily)).

Western astrology is a dynamic example of elemental thinking. In fact, it's what turned me on to the idea of thinking in such a manner; and it surely has more than a passingly integrated relationship with the Tarot. I speak as an aficionado of both, expert in neither. (In the interest of full disclosure, I was born here with scorpio rising, moon in pisces, sun in cancer, and mercury in leo. So take whatever I may say with a healthy grain of salt!).

thanks and you're welcome

Hey, glad you liked it. I have to say, it boosts my confidence more than a bit to know that I can offer inspiration to a fellow writer (though you seem to be doing rather well from what I can tell), so thanks for that.
And yeah, I've been meaning to make a table for a while, but my artistic side keeps interfering with my logical side and I get delayed trying to make it "perfect". However, your request has inspired me to give it another go.
Oh, and as for Avatar, Hulu only has a few episodes from book one. If you don't have the cash to shell out for the whole series on DVD and you don't want to DVR Nick (they broadcast episodes at random and it's a series you should really see in consecutive order), there are websites that you can stream episodes for free...somewhere. Or you can check your local library or Blockbuster. But while you're watching, pay attention to they way the elements are manipulated and see about doing the same with the energy around and within you. You may be pleasantly surprised with what you can do!

Constructive criticism is

Constructive criticism is our friend =)

I enjoyed this, and yes, I had no troubles following it.

I will say this though: while I agree with 99.9% of what you wrote, I was a teeny bit put off by how you describe those of us who are comprised of non-fire elements. I'm mainly earth-oriented, but I lean towards both water and air as secondary elements. Water moreso than air. There is not an abundance of the fire element within my make-up -- however, I get along well with fire signs, especially female Leos.

I wouldn't say I'm wishy-washy because of my water tendencies. I think of it as being highly emotional, and highly sensitive, but thank God I have Earth to ground me and keep me practical. Since I have Earth to sheath my emotionality, those who I'm close to (or spent any significant time around) can sense when I'm troubled simply by my non-verbals. I'm also talented at recognizing the troubles of others -- able to relate to that emotion within myself, and somehow transform it into practicality, so I can give it back in the form of practical comfort. I wouldn't consider myself depressed at all -- but I am definitely emotional. And stubborn, yes -- but not without logic or reason.

I guess my point is all these things are not a disadvantage. It's something that has a purpose, it has a use. I put it to work =)

I have to go to school now, but I'd like to come back and say more. Thanks for writing this, I'd love to talk further with you about it. Take care

-Joanne

huh...

Well, I tried keeping the adjectives balanced between the positive and the negative for all the elements, but I see your point. You're right, I had a more positive focus on the fire than the earth. Thank you so much for pointing that out! I will definitely be keeping track of that in the future.
Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it. And you can feel free to message me at anytime, I'd love to speak with you more. I'm on here at least two or three times a day so I should respond fairly quickly.

touchdown

AHA! personal/philosophical touched down on the massage/healing, the spiritual to the material bridged. Makes it real.

=)

Thank you very much! I'm glad it resonated with you.

Nice article.. I love that

Nice article.. I love that show..

Regarding your test.. have you ever read Jung's theories of personality types because it's very similar to your ideas. Main difference is that fire in his scheme would be intuition.
