Clutching my head in her little hands she calls out to me in a child’s frustration, shaking me, smacking, intentionally or not, my third eye. “Are you asleep? Wake up! Why are you sleeping?” I pause astonished, and smile, having never heard her talk this way.

"Are you awake?"

"Yes, I think so."

“What are you thinking about?”

“A star.”

“Okay, you're awake.”

She continues further questioning me, asking me to "say it again." I ask what she's referring to, "Oh you know," she says, "its like magic." I insisted that I had no recollection of uttering the word magic. "Yes, yes you did!" she retorts, "do you remember the words you used?" Again I reply that I know of no such phrase; she, on the other hand, does know; she wants to hear it spoken back to her. Her eyes now downcast in embarrassment, I ask her for a hint. “you said you are so outrageous with your powers.’” "I did?" “Yes, you did.”

So did she hear you say it

So did she hear you say it or did she hear you think it?
Great story, I love how unfiltered a child's perceptions are.
I wish I could regain some of that clarity in my own mind.
My daughter who is almost 3 years old helps to remind me of what it's like.

How marvelous

The shroud of human thought doesn't seem to descend until four or so. I am the eldest of seven, and have been blessed to help extend my brothers and sisters capacity for wonder somewhat, while they have helped me in the same.
Sounds like a nice dream.

Thats really interesting,

Thats really interesting, young children always seem to be in a deeper state and more connected with their emotions. Like when your in a bad or depressed state, they always know and ask "whats wrong". I see the same with dogs and other animals, they almost always reflect you mood.
