4. WWW.STATE.GOV: Text 'HAITI' to '90999' a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill (U.S. State Department)

I have heard that the first two orgs had teams of people on the ground in Haiti before the quake and will be able to put financial donations to use immediately and directly.
