This document was created as an exploration of the following argument:

“Equality is not fair. Therefore fairness does not require equality & in fact, must reject equality unless it is based on accurate, fair measurements & judgments that require equal distribution to individuals, based fairly on them individually. This seen, it can also be known that equality by default breeds laziness.”

Definition of terms:

Fair - free from bias, dishonesty, or injustice

Equal - 1. as great as; the same as 2. like or alike in quantity, degree, value, etc.; of the same rank, ability, merit, etc.: two students of equal brilliance. 3. evenly proportioned or balanced: an equal contest. 4. uniform in operation or effect: equal laws. 5. adequate or sufficient in quantity or degree: The supply is equal to the demand. 6. having adequate powers, ability, or means: He was equal to the task. 7. level, as a plain. 8. tranquil or undisturbed: to confront death with an equal mind. 9. impartial or equitable.

Premise 1:

Equality is not fair (i.e., fairness does not require equality).

Premise 2: (not really a separate premise, more like an extension of premise 1)

Fairness must be 1) based on accurate measurements, 2) based on impartial judgements, and 3) must be distributed to all individuals equally.

Conclusion:

Equality causes laziness.

[Broken down into classic syllogistic form]

Comments

it is my opinion that

it is my opinion that fairness has no bearings or scale, fair is in fact an imagined matter of opinion, i came across this idea when i was being treated what i considered unfairly, and i discovered that there is no measurement scale or higher authority to set the example of this fairness we speak of
