You get what you give, doesn't necessarily mean what we think it does. Often we believe that it means that we will receive the same or similar things to what we give. But, it seems to me, that I've never received anything from anyone. Well, at least not non-physical things. I have been loved, but the love I felt was my love. I gave love, because I felt it. And that feeling of love, was what I got. I didn't get love from the women I've loved, although I'm quite certain that at least some of them loved me back. But I didn't receive their love. The only love I received, was the love that emerged in me.

Giving love is the same as receiving it. No matter what kind of emotion you talk about, you never receive it from anyone else but yourself. The feeling of being loved, is something you give yourself. And some people give it to themselves without anyone actually loving them.

Somehow we've confused emotions with the commerce: You give money, and receive stuff equal to that value. But the love you give, you don't really give to anyone else but yourself. The experience of your love, IS what you get. And you don't loose love, by giving it, because you can't give it to anyone.

What love makes you do, is an entirely different story.
