Health Warming:
Ahead's a ramblin' long love story-read of Rob 'n' Roll. Ladled w/ passion, a dash of mystery, tonsa devotion... Not to mention, one or 2 way too many exclamation point(s)!! (See?!)
(you'll live)

From
Early adolescence on, I've had this soul-felt passion for certain artists' music. What the heaven, let's do that in almost all caps: PASSiON!
I'd go ape: Collect like a Lesmaniac, correspond/trade with 50+ fellow fans worldwide (Guinness Book snail fanmail record, that?), publish zines, co-run a fanclub, dressed the part... the works! And then some. All about the select few musicians that SO deeply touched my heart & soul... My being, my essence... WOW! (< Tip: Voice that word in the acoustics of your mind the way ye mighty Chris Walken would. Cheers.)

It All
Started with Adam And The Ants @ 1981, & '82 solo career. 'Ant Music For Sex People', anyone? I added The Sex Pistols soon after. Then, from the night time neon-city wastelands of the 80's music scene, there was to come a group named Sigue Sigue Sputnik, who would take the 5th step into the future of Rock And Roll, and thus were quickly were added to my musical ranks.
This unconditional musical love + devotion went on for years. Ages, even!

Oi,
Once I joined the mighty WWW, I 'of course' had to start several sites dedicated to them three. Sure, a motley crew of other artists very much appealed to my musical tastes over the years: Nina Hagen (Grew up on her. Thanks mom! Just converted to christianity, btw. La Hagen, that is. NOT me mom!), Les Rita Mitsouko, the Anthrax' repertoire (+ 2 Slayer ditties), Betty Boo (she's back!), Les ChouChoux De La Maîtresse, Think Tree, Them Beatles (back, too!), le petit paisley Prince... And, you didn't guess it: The Cult. & The Sisters' 'Vision Thang'.

Still,
Muchos as I loved, and love, that lot, the Robsession for them never ran as deep as for my Holy Trinity. And eventually, I became less fanatical about my artists. I also didn't really meet any new Ones to feel about with equal passion. Sure, Neurotic Outsiders came nice and close; grrreat honeymoon memories, even! Und Ich still count their one'n'only album release as my all-time numero deux; right after 'Electric', and before the #3, NMTB. FatBoy & Prodigy tried really hard, too.
Still, things weren't quite the same... ;(

(Twilight Zonecdote:
One day I was throwing lots of mostly dayglo paint against my bedroom wall, while 'Electric' was playing (OK, maybe it was actually Ant's 'Vive Le Rock' long-playa; THAT I somehow can't remember!?? AnyWhoa, weirdest thing happened: Side One'd ended, and... The first song of Side Two of this The Cult gem started playing! As in, I didn't have to turn the vinyl over! Johnny B. Goode ole goosebumpin' galore! Once I realized what woz goin' on, I took the needle off the record, to inspect, put it back on... and all was back to 'normal'. Bummer!)

Back On Track:
Finally, a few yrs ago, I accidently stumbled upon one Dan Sartain --the self-proclaimed poor man's Chris Isaak, "... born of fire and baptized in the tears of Johnny Cash [..] the voice and soul of this generation’s rock’n’roll youth." Yeah baby yeah! I just lurve(d) Dan-da-man's complete oeuvre, despite the fact that some of 'is stuff... got the Blues! You know, that generally way whiney genre (eat yer hurt out, Country!), so brain-bogglingly loved to death by millions too many. ;) hence, I played Dan ad infinitum; couldn't get 'nuff of 'is stuff! (Y'Tube the chap!)

Da(m)n,
All then went nice and quiet again. With, 2 b fair, dabs of Muse, MGMT, as well as ever-cherished Golden Oldies. Or Jonathan Goldman & assorted equally-harmonic compadres... a menagerie of Tibetan bowls/bells. That was the sole soundtrack of my life for (too?) long.

Until... NOW!
K, yesterday, to be exact.
Thank U thank U thank U, Saint Jeffrey Elvis Preston of Bezos! 'Cos Amazon.com sent me an electronic piece of mail containing a link to some 'FREE Sampler'. I somehow fell for their clever little scheme; after just a coupla clicks I was giving the freebies a listen. Love and Behold, there was some ensemble on this MP3-downloads ceedee named 'DEAD MAN'S BONES'. Their sound sooo uplifted my already fairly blissed spirit(s); higher than any 'new' music had done in a long time. See/Hear, Gosling and Co. sound "sort of like Damon Albarn meets Tim Burton making serious music inspired by children." How COULD one go wrong with that?!

Ohhh, I'll Tell You How!
Ever since that Dutch 'Kinderen Voor Kinderen' (Kids for Kids) debacle first reared funky little heads (loud mouths!), I'd dreaded anything involving children singing chansons. The Goonies sure didn't help; and they didn't even sing! Well, not that I know of; never made it past the first few mins of said kid-flick.

'Ohhh, I'll Tell You How! - The Sequel':
DMB also describe its genre as "Disney haunted mansion, doo wop and 60s girl groups". DiSNEY, for pukes' sake. I mean it, maaaan: How can I rhyme that with my 'Never Trust A Disney!' creed? Or with my ever-admiration of (fellow Evolvee!) Rev. Billy, & His Great Many Works? Or our early 90's 'Eating Mickey And Donald's Head' club, complete w/ bright mutilated, mutated M&D logo on back of leather jacket, to show this silly world I was Head-serious, for that matter?!

All I Can Say Is:
I must be in a forgiving mood. Or, simply: Dead Man's Bones just blew me away! Incl. its tres unterrible Red Hot Flea-Peppered Choeur Des Enfants! And that other choir, featuring actual adults! They got me hooked! Such jubilant, morbidly-themed music! All I can additionally say is: Dead Man's Bones, they so deeply touched my heart & soul... My being, my essence. NOW!

No worries/bee happy: Things won't be(rserk) like in the old days; no need for that whole devotee-fanchilada (TM) anymo'. But I can blog, right? Hereby. Let It Tweet! Have 'em for Facebook friends (should check), and MyPals... WOW!

It would be highly inappropos of me
to end this entry
without plenty
musical poetry;
sights and sounds of the band
to hear, and see.

May they speak
@ you as clearly
as they spoke @ me...

I know you wrote this a long

I know you wrote this a long time ago, but I stumbled upon it on Google when I was searching for clips from Dead Man's Bones' Toronto show. I was one of the singers in the choir and it's great to hear that someone took the time to say that we were good. Thank you!

Belated "very welcome," and...

... Thank YOU, too! :)

BL!SS!NGS,

Rob
