Oh, I Get It Now! The Evolver Social Movement!

Oh, I get it now! Ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! It finally hit me. I was laying in bed Sunday night, still half-asleep and still in a dreamy state after waking up spontaneously. Suddenly, out of nowhere, it hit me. I mean, I considered the irony before, but this time it really hit me.
It's called "The Evolver Social Movement." And it's a CORPORATION! Ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! Not only that, but they want you to donate money, and they've openly stated that 65 percent of it will go to pay their own "salaries," that 65 percent will go straight into their own pockets. Why can't they give 100 percent to doing good things instead of just 45 percent? Why are they keeping 65 percent of our donations as their own income?
Daniel Pinchbeck is a best-selling author and he only has six "staff members" that he needs to "pay." And I'm sure that his elite circle of friends come from an upper-class background the same way he does. Don't they have enough of their own money? Hell, don't they have enough of mommy and daddy's money? Yes, I understand that they are "volunteering their time," but we're ALL volunteering our time, and we all still have bills to pay. Volunteering mean VOLUNTEERING, which means you don't get paid. Why should DP and his crew use our donations to pay themselves? I have never heard of any good, grass-roots organization operating in such a fashion.
Why should I give them any more of my money, especially when they're NOT addressing the root cause of all the problems in our society, which is the monetary system itself. I'd rather keep my money and buy materials/tools for building natural shelters, or heirloom seeds, or solar panels. You know, stuff that might contribute to the survival of the human race.
Furthermore, Evolver has attracted a lot of mundane "spiritual" people who are completely insufferable. They say they want change, but deep down inside what they really want is for things to stay the same. They talk about everyone being "One," but they support the concept of our economic system which, by definition, operates on the principle of one person benefiting at the expense of another. They say they can "create their own reality," but they cannot even imagine living in a world without governments, nations, national flags and a monetary system. These are the only things that they know and the only things they can imagine. Yet they say that they "create reality." Ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! How completely absurd can you be?! How can you create reality when the only reality you know is the one that has been handed to you? How can you create reality when you can't even even IMAGINE a different reality? How can you create reality when you can't even see past the bars of your own prison?!
They talk about shamanism and Terrence McKenna, but they have no desire to change the operating system in which we live, even though that's exactly what a shaman DOES! I mean, seriously, do these people even know what they're talking about? Do they even understand the meaning behind their own words? I have had it up to HERE with stupidity! And some people wonder why I want to run off into the woods in an effort to save my own sorry life. There's obviously no hope for humanity because humanity is retarded, and therefore hopelessly enslaved.
But now that I get it, it really is a funny joke. Yes, I'm a bit embarrassed that I fell for it, but I have to admit that it's pretty damn funny. That's a good one, and it got me good. Very clever indeed.
Oh, by the way, when am I going to get my official "Evolver" membership card which will entitle me to discounts at participating businesses? I believe that was one of Daniel's brilliant "revolutionary" ideas. Ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! Oh my goddess, it's so damn funny!

:)
This probably won't get a lot of comment.
I think the aha moment you describe is pretty far-reaching.
I know I, and others, have found it pretty disconcerting how many do not want to really address, either publicly or one-to-one, the seemingly obvious 'next step' of detaching from anything of a conflicted nature.
This would of course include detaching from a corporate structure like evolver/RS.
Yet here we are.
Are 'we' in conflict?
I don't know but I know I could argue that we are. I also know that I feel motivated internally to talk to people who are serious about this stuff on whatever level. So I do not withdraw.
I see you live in Pasadena. Having been there I know there is that level of continued engagement with 'the system', just by living in a city. I see you drink beer and so I would bet there is a good chance you are not brewing your own and are buying beer from some kind of corporation.
I hate to make assumptions usually, but I'll just go out there on a limb and say that.
You are using a computer so you are supporting continued oil drilling in order to create the plastic for the housing of it. You support mining operations because without those mining operations the metals used in computers would not be available.
Picking at nits can be an endless task don't you agree?
I am not pointing out these aspects of your life (which I truly know nothing about) to condemn you or to give you a 'gotcha!' as a response to what you've said about DP and the staff.
I am saying all of this to point out that no matter how powerful an 'aha!' realization is, the journey is made in steps. Truth, whatever that is, does not seem to have a linear path, but we make our way through life, one moment at a time.
I feel like in my own life, there will be a moment for me where I just disengage completely. That there will be the feeling inside like 'ok my work here is done, I don't need this shit anymore, it's time to live completely without compromise.'
Because as pretty as we may talk, we are all compromising our spiritual or even just plain common sense awarenesses to be in contact with one another at all.
I do like and appreciate your posts here and what you've put up so far on your blog. Keep on keepin' on!
Namaste,
Steve

cheers!
i feel this way even among my own friends sometimes, haha, they talk the oneness talk but yet they attend universities, and aspire to be successful clones in societies robot army! i have been trying to pull together friends to live in off-grid lifestyle, but they all seem to be so attached to their previously installed programming.. the funny thing is, its some of these friends who helped to enlighten me on such subjects as spiritual living, resource based economy, and other anti-system ideas. as far as Evolver Social Movement, i have been at a crossroads this past month trying to decide if its a good way to spend the little bit of money i manage to accumulate and your blog really says it simply. "It's called "The Evolver Social Movement." And it's a CORPORATION!" i want to believe that this sort of corporation can help us create a more aware, loving, sustainable future but to quote Albert Einstein "problems cant be solved by the same level of thinking that created them". i do think this Evolver site has its benefits with things like local spores (wish i had one by me tho) , and its a wonderful free place to share our thoughts and ideas. it also reminds me i'm not alone and that there are others like yourself out there who are striving to live outside the box. and as for those who's actions are not in align with their spiritual thoughts and words. i hope their mental seeds grow into fruits of action.
another great post boadie
much love.
:)
I am grateful for evolver myself. People like female warrior and sailing beyond knowledge and others who come here have come to be friends of mine. And I do not mean they are nice people and I like their sense of humor etc...
I mean they get it, but not only that, they are committed. This conversation we are all having here, the thing that drives the conversation is the priority for them, as it is for me.
And that is really quite uplifting.
What seems to separate me from most of the people I know is that I see how radical this awareness is, what it implies about how drastically different life could be. What it implies about how morally corrupt our systems have become, the lack of humanity in all of it. The lack of love in all of it. The hypocrisy in all of the public gesticulations about freedom and democracy.
We are radical, even as we are now. I feel that what we are doing in connecting the way we do here is finding others who understand the depth of commitment that is required to truly change any or all of this.
I appreciate the journey, look forward to where it is taking us and thank you for being here with me.
Namaste,
Steve

This is really good...hahahha
"...white male upper class acid trip perspective..." Booyah!
I originally hesitated joining this group when I read about it on Reality Sandwich's site, I got a similar impression then. Lots of causes and groups, etc. but not a lot of action. That's why I don't enjoy groups. It's harder than heck to get more than two people to do anything these days and writing checks to ease someone's conscience is offensive to me. And don't even get me started on the Cap and Trade Climate B.S.
Anyway, when I came across this website on its own, I read some of the blogs and was impressed with the individuals here, not the corporation aspect or cause aspect. It was the individuals contributing here. I posted a blog and was very surprised at the intelligent response and interest. That was a positive sign.
So far, I've enjoyed the discussions, the questions, the concepts, the creativity, the minds here. It the quality of the discourse here that interests me.
just my two cents worth, keep the "aha's" coming Boadie
don't you guys think you are
don't you guys think you are shooting yourselves in the foot? We all recognize that money is still needed at this point. If something new and worthwhile is going to come along, it is going to have to grow within that environment.
How about instead of complaining, you initiate something with others. Evolver is a social networking site, and thats all it is really, despite any hyped up claims to the contrary. You choose your own level of involvement, and no one says you have to follow some prescribed framework, and even if they did, thats no reason to do so. Where people gather, so does power. Its that simple. Its not Evolver, its YOU, its HISTORY, and its NECESSITY.
probably none of my business but...
how do you feel when ppl either from the evolver staff or just users tell you something like... well if you don't like it go somewhere else... ?? what happens inside of you?
Personally I feel many of
Personally I feel many of the things Boadie has expressed here are inappropriate.
Being critical of something you want to improve that you have invested in is fine and dandy but I see a lot of things that are 'level three' turned up to a 'level ten' and reflected back and forth between fun house mirrors before they are plopped in the toilet bowl.
It seems more in the area of creating suspicions and reducing enthusiasm for ESM than helping out. I hope I am wrong and welcome the fact that I may be misunderstanding things greatly. This is all just fitting in the grooves of other patterns I have seen before.
Your comments on DP among many others: ". . .while male privileged upper-class acid trip perspective. Yeah, I know that he wants to get down with the homeys, but I don't think he has idea what he's getting into with that. Furthermore, he seems to have some issues with women, in my opinion."
What is That all about?
Boadie, you've "read his book twice and really liked it" but that's the impression you get of him?
My 'keep it short' impression of him is someone who has grown up in one of the largest melting pots of culture on earth, not in the most privileged areas, not with an ideal family life, suffered through extended periods of time with health problems early on etc. He has shared his life openly, what he has experienced, and the negative elements of his past incarnations.
Is he really 'out of touch?"
He is humble, open about his past, continually reborn improving himself, not afraid to go back and review and renew his beliefs and thoughts and first impressions about things, dips his toes in all the best ideas humanity has to offer.
He is a skilled writer, reader, and communicator that has shared a lot of his time and A Lot of his money to give us the opportunity to 'come together'.
The different movements should not be competing in a way that tries to tear the others apart.
Let all the movements try building our own best canoes. We will look across the river and admire the progress we see. We will inspire each other as we strike at the root of what ills humanity in our own special way. If someone starts sinking we have plenty of room to float you if you'll pick up an oar. Through the rough surf near the shore we will paddle hard until we make our landing in the sands of our new world. We will meet together at the center fire.
This is just my reaction to the impressions I am getting that are run through my own personal filters Boadie. Please continue to express yourself in your own continually revised way. take care.
More Ironies...
Hemp industry, cool.
Henry Ford originally wanted to power his model T's on hemp fuel and make the body parts out of hemp, but obviously Rockefeller won out on that discussion.
Here's the irony, Its now legal to grow "medical" pot. something else I won't comment on. So no hemp industry, but a "budding" medical pot industry.... ya gotta laugh or cry.
from graveyards peculiarly strange and beautiful flowers bloom..
Funny thing here is that the forerunners on the front lines of the hemp movement are the very ones that paved the way for the medicinal movement to flourish. Perhaps they think if they get enough people 'sick' enough about the whole situation they'll smoke enough to ignite the official hemp movement.... ha ha ha couldn't resist....
question
dear Bodie,
we do live in a monetary system. If you want to evolve it, or you have the idea that this organisation could be run in a better way, it might be fruitful to come up with a solution, or at least an idea on the way towards a solution, or a question which leads us all to ponder it for a while... This feels a bit too much like throwing the baby out with the bath water =)
by the way - I really like you =)
bring something to the table
I understand your distrust for organizations; however, I do feel that if you are going to criticize something, then pose an alternative way to approach the situation. it is quite easy to point fingers and place blame, but it is a lot harder to create other options for how to run esm.
susan - agree with you 100%
enjoyed the post
a lot to ponder. I agree as far as the monetary system goes, which is a debt system. I have been dabbling ina little research concerning the fed and reading up some things on monetary.org. I reccomend the three-part series on Jan Irvin's Podcast "Gnostic Media" with Steven Zarlenga for alternatives to the way our current system is set up.
I was encouraged to see a one time audit of the fed passed today by the senate.
oh yea and go HEMP!!! the grassroots push behind Hemp is growing at least from my little wormhole view of things.

I like both Tom Greco and Ellen Brown for their ability and willingness to spell it out in a way you can understand. Brown strongly recommends each state to have their own bank. Doing this alone would totally liberate the economy within a state.
There are a lot of simple things that would radically change our experience, and all they truly require is our disengaging with the fed system. Just stop.

I recall a quite from Bucky:
I recall a quite from Bucky: "don't fight forces, use them"
reminds me of another quote about tantric deities: "the surest way to kill a god, is simply to make it obsolete"
the monetary system is our god, it is our simulation of 'connectivity' or something. theres really nothing inherently wrong with the monetary system. Mind you, I really like Jacques Fresco. Rather the monetary system is the 'physical' societal expression of a particular level of consciousness. We have a planet full of frustrated people, and money inevitably helps some people resolve their frustration. Until it ceases to provide that function, it will remain in vogue.
What you need to understand
What you need to understand is that a movement is like a snowball, it needs to gain momentum and well, more snow. I used to write on a blog called "fight with tools" which was actually started by the members of the band flobots. Evolver and fight with tools have very similar views and about 2 months after i started writing on fight with tools, posts like this started popping up all the time talking about people just writing and not actually doing anything or having any goals. What people need to understand is that things this large take time, you can't just expect change after how long? I'm not sure how long this blog has been here but I can tell you probably not that long. As much as we all want change, you can't just go out and force change on people. Its a lot like democracy, it takes time, becuase instead of forcing change on people, the only true way to change anything is to make them understand and see the truth. baby steps, the time will come. The elite can only sustain so mych longer.
Thing is about snowballs, is
Thing is about snowballs, is that most of the time people just throw them around, or they try to roll them on a flat surface, which kills all the momentum it needs. That or you have one person pushing the thing around for ages to make it grow, and when they stop pushin it, you just have this big unmoving ball of snow that all you can really do is leave to melt.
And even when you do get a snowball rolling down a big hill, gathering all this snow with it as it goes is eventually it hits into something harder than it and smashes into pieces. Then you just have a big bunch of snow again.
Maybe we gotta stop thinking in snowballs. Maybe it should be more like rain - make the movement more like rain. After all, we don't get much out of snowballs, but without rain we wouldn't even be here. But for rain we need water, not snow, and to make snow into water, we need heat. So we need some sort of metaphorical sun to change our metaphorical mindset from cold snow to warm water then to gas to make the clouds. Some sort'a catalyst. After all you said movements are like snowballs, and we're sure as hell not the first movement to want to change things no matter how radical we all think we are. And you're right, movements are like snowballs, so maybe that's why they never made the big change they usually want even if they do change the landscape a bit.
So if you want to translate all this stuff from just the words, the cold snow, into actions, the water, then we need to change how we think about movements at all.
Unfortunately I'm only any good with metaphors, actually making it mean something might take some help >.< So... what can change a pre-programmed mindset and concept of an entire idea?
Hmm. Just read that back. It sounds a little bit mental, maybe I should refine it and post it in my next blog.

Gratitude
After telling DP what I thought about his corporatizing Evolver I decided to support it financially anyway. It's better than anything I've done on the net. I also have had positive and negative experience with groups, but I've learned something from each encounter.
I am grateful to continue learning from each of you.
Round and round we go...
It can be both a hellish and fascinating tug of war no? I'm so upset about the oil spill, but realize at the same time that I use oil like everybody else, therefore I'm part of the problem, its all my fault!!! There are a lot of awesome spiritual truths, and facts about the government in my fiction novel that I want everyone to know about but I'm not giving it away for free, I'd like to make a living off my writing after all, while sharing the need to know information.
And so it goes, round and round as we struggle with our desire to disengage from the system while being stuck in the cycles of our own progress that keep us participating in it to some extent.
The whole conversation begs a much deeper discussion on economics, sustainability, and blah blah blah. All the things we are all ready working on in some form or another. I think your post though is a great reflection of the struggle we all go through during our attempt to get it right. Eventually we will realize that some of the flaws are okay (not even Gods are perfect, and yet isn't that imperfection, perfection?) And the bottom line is that sooner, rather than later, we are going to get it right. Mostly anyway.
Namaste!

There is nothing inherently
There is nothing inherently evil about a corporation, in fact it's a democracy. There's nothing inherently evil about democracy, it's what you do with it that counts.

Evolver, as it functions,
Evolver, as it functions, encourages active social participation and collective critical thinking simultaneously. Companies don’t generally operate on this level of goals/ideals and manage such a high level of participation at the same time. So that's huge to me.
The participation of the public is what keeps this site in business.
The discussions are the business as far as Evolver is concerned. Without the participation in communication, this site would’ve long ago tanked.
Really it’s just a lengthy palaver. You can’t really say that about any other social networking site that I know of. Since we have this palaver, everybody is welcome to just follow along, or come and go. By even glancing at the titles of the content here, new people become exposed to new ways of thinking.
Evolver in its concept and function will always be a brilliant idea.
But it won't stay brilliant unless we keep it that way. Because We're the content.
RS and Evolver are apples and oranges. The situation sort of reminds me of my high school French teacher. She was actually regularly scheduled as a German teacher -- she just picked up one French class at the end of the day. I got stuck with her one year while my sister had her for German class.
Not to say she didn't love teaching our class. She did. It's just that we'd hear about all the cool things she'd do with the German kids. Like they get to celebrate German Christmas, and they got to watch some awesome popular American movie with German dubbing. We got stuck with muesli samples and The Lion King in French.
In other words, like that situation with my French/German teacher, when I look at the participation level the staff puts into RS in comparison to Evolver, my first instinct is to feel shafted. RS is the staff’s first priority.
But then again, it's apples and oranges. This is a business, and it's not very business-like to show all your cards. As idealistic as things may be around here in terms of discussion, I’m grateful the staff has disclosed this much about the company’s operations. After all, they didn’t have to tell us what they’re up to in the first place. It helps, considering they’re relying on the public for content, for free. I probably would’ve contributed monetarily no matter what they said. I want this site to work because I believe in its form and function.
And in some aspect, I see how it is childish to demand the staff to participate more. It really is about attention we feel we're entitled to have.
And after all, RS is for the staff writers what Evolver is for us. It’s somewhat of a platform, or stage, for one's thoughts. That one’s for them, this one’s for us. We're not professionals. They are. They are providing the content over there themselves, and it’s fewer people doing more work than over here. They created this site to manage itself – and the community does a good job of managing the content as well.
I would love to see the staff be more a part of this site like we are, though. If nothing else, that would be my money’s worth.
But even if not, as long as the concept’s intact, I’m still happy. We're all learning from each other and that's exactly what this was intended for =)
What a mental bubble burst,
What a mental bubble burst, huh? I Love your serendipitous aha moment and the way you're willing to lay yourself out as you...process. The funny, yup, thing is that the corporate model is what runs the entire infrastructure of goods and services. It's just exploded into a gazillion smaller models that infiltrate most angles of our daily lives. Go figure, the non-profit model is actually a corporation. When you start any kind of a business, according to regional bylaws, these laws require that you choose a business model. This is so you can be recognized as an entity in the currently operating business fabric here in the good ol' USA and abroad. The reason this is soo much bigger than any of us, is due to the internet. All memberships are devised on this same 'corporate' model. You just have to go through the ropes to establish this model which is mostly what all 'new' businesses are essentially doing these daze. Life sorta requires we merge simply to move on. So, the top greedy corps. that helped to establish this so-called 'working' process, probably didn't realize they were preparing the hoards (yea, you and me and all the rest) to step up and take over where we kicked them out. Thus, 'the merge' created by greed (we can't do anything about that- just avoid it in your own life), yields to the rest of us being able to create something for ourselves also- and make a living at it. So, even though many of the things you said in the original post may very well be true. It's important for us all to not appear to be accidental conspirators against ourself. As this can quickly become a dance that deters us from moving on from the pain the greed culture inflicted upon us.
Keep processing aloud....you still have the choice to chime or join, that's a REALLY good thing!
You questioning this process is the filtering process in action. I personally think it's beautiful what you've done, because it's important for you to not want to cut off something that has allowed us all to even have this conversation. That my friend is light years ahead in advanced communication skills.
Keep Keepin' on, you're helping us break dawn....
The only currency left is
The only currency left is truth and honor. I hope DP and Evolver cats make mucho money for their bunker in the stars. Just glad we all have an operating system to communicate when things get funky. Thanks for the post sister.
Participation
Hi Joanne and others,
Thanks for such a thoughtful debate on Boadie's post. She actually posted the same thing to the E+SM Facebook fan page where I took exception with some of her assumptions about the paid staff of RS/Evolver being independently wealth or elite. I'm one of the few full-time paid staff members and I'm a woman and in pretty serious debt, in part because of my love for this project which has caused me to go without pay in order to keep it alive. I work full time hours which doesn't include my time volunteering at the NYC spore.
That said, I agree with Joanne about the need for staff to spend more time IN Evolver as opposed to on the back end doing administration. There's a lot to do on this fledgling system and we often get caught up in tasks that pull us away from interacting with the community. Almost all of us are struggling to find the time to blog and comment even the interaction with other Evolvers is one of the things that drew us to this project in the first place. So it's something of a Catch-22. We will do better to get the balance right.
Let me just say that I love all of you and I love Evolver. None of us are perfect, but together, as a NETWORK dedicated to change, love and light, we are pretty freakin awesome!
One Love,
jp
I think that is the idea of blogging.
Isn't it?
You share as an individual and see what resonates and with whom you resonate.
Life, as we know it now anyway, is pretty much an individual experience happening with a bunch of others. Whether or not we learn to recognize one another as such seems to be what the point is, at least on this level here.
Peace,
Steve

I have shared these same
I have shared these same thoughts. But after deeply thinking about the monetary system I realized a few major things. There is nothing wrong with the concept of money. It seems perfectly reasonable at a small scale. Once it has been twisted and warped in a world scale and in the hands of a few terrible people it has the ability to enslave mass populations. These days money is probably a deity. It is on the minds of a lot of people. There are numerous people who's lives are so consumed with money that it almost feels as if it is apart of them. I also believe too that to break a monetary system one has to do it from within the monetary system. Which Evolver is doing. There might be no other way to operate such a mission and idea in todays times. To operate in a monetary system you must abide by it. Especially if you are in a densely populated urban area (like that of New York City).
We just have to use money to make the world see that it is just a delusional reality. I believe this can be done with the will and efforts of a mass network of people.
Consciously believing that one day money will not hold power will come too in time.

Money-a symbol for the
Money-a symbol for the efficient distribution of human energy. With that said, Fractal is the solution to a sustainable economy! Money in itself is not evil, when it is not distributed correctly is what is evil. ALL MONEY should go to rebels in my opinion. Give money for Biofeedback, give money for phase conjugate materials. Give money to LIFE! Anything else at this point in time is a waste of money. Now that you we know EXACTLY what Life force is shouldn't we do something about it? Build Stonehenges and labyrinths in every yard! Money is really a place holder for admiration. Do you really admire life? All this is just insane to me. Do you guys know they can teach blind people to see with phase conjugation? In a more enlightened monetary system there would be perfect distribution through NO STORAGE. I see roses and pine cones doing it every day...
Money-a symbol for the efficient distribution of human energy.
If money didn't exist it
If money didn't exist it would be necessary to invent it..
There's billions of us on the planet with only finite resources and the vast majority of us share theses resources peacefully. Like the above poster said - it's not money it's how we use it. Most social problems could be solved/eased if enough of us gave enough to charity. Don't use the system as a scapegoat for our flaws.
Evolver vs other movements
I think the problem is everyone is trying to re-invent the wheel ... Instead of listening to what others are doing and plugging in ... everyone is saying NO MY Movement is better.
They are all trying to do essentially the same thing...
I like Evolver only in that folks post some interesting things... far out things i would never get anywhere else....
However I have recently tried to get the Transition Town "movement" started .. which probably.. in all actuality has more of a plan than anything I have since found. WHY?.... It does more ACTION items.. rather than talking.
While it has been a bit challegnign to get my transition town up and running... there are many successful ones. (I already live in a place where a lot of cool stuff is happening)...
Point is.. Don't try and reinvent the wheel.. there are a lot of good ideas.... Just a few points:
KEEP IT LOCAL
Have a practical purpose
and it shouldn't just all be about talking.. but about doing.. (gardening, coming together, bike co-ops, alternative money).
I think that it sounds lik this is what Daniel wanted a bit too.. I think folks will figure out a way and it will come together.. somehow..
But yeah... I think the model of EVOLVER will cause it's downfall before it had a chance. Transition town starts with a steering committee and branches off.
Low overhead!!!
