Zen and Money

I am inspired. Last night I went to the release party for Evolver's "What Comes After Money?". Just fantastic. I tend not to attribute events, contacts with people to mystical causes or synchronicity but last night did resonate and came at the right time. At one point, one of speakers asked everyone who feels he or she is experiencing a profound, seismic shift to raise his or her hand.

HBO's "Enlightened"

Last night I saw the second episode of Mike White's "Enlightened" starring Laura Dern on HBO. It's smart, funny and I'm immediately a fan. Then this morning, I was listening to Mike White being interviewed on NPR and I was disappointed.

Jewish Dharma

Today I am meeting a friend, Brenda Shoshanna, who wrote a book about Zen and Judaism: "The Jewish Dharma: A Guide to the Practice of Judaism and Zen". I am not Jewish but I have been to several of her sittings. She incorporates Jewish prayers, singing, chants into her services and I find it warm, grounding, and conducive to my practice.

Zen: More Than Meditation

I can't make the Fire Lotus Temple's service and sitting this morning. A friend of mine is showing his film, SpokAnarchy, at the Long Island Film festival at noon.

Back to Zen

My Zen path has been long, convoluted and, at times, very dormant. I initially became interested in Buddhism when I met a Pure Land nun studying in Berkeley at the Graduate Theological Union. I had just returned from living in mainland China and was looking for someone to practice Chinese with. We immediately hit it off and met once a week for about a year.
