Exquisite Corpse Radio

An exquisite corpse is a game, kind of like telephone, where someone starts with a piece of content. Say they write two sentences on a piece of paper. When done, they will fold that paper over to cover the first line. The next person will write another two lines, and then fold the paper to cover the previous two. This goes on indefinitely. The result is a sort of stream-of-multiple-consciousnesses, where each person contributed in response to the person before them, but no one person is in control of the overall narrative.

In this fashion, I am going to continually produce a series of radio shows.

Once enough people have signed up, I will choose a someone to seed the first song. The remaining people will randomly be sorted and ordered. Starting with that first song, I will record five seconds (from 1:20 - 1:25) and email it to the next person in line.

Based on that five second clip this person will choose the next song. The idea is to continue the musical thought, so the following song should be a natural fit. For example, you can follow up a Hall and Oates song with a McDonald / Loggins composition (nod to Yacht Rock) or move from a hip hop song to the that was used as a sample.

That person will then email me their song. Starting at one minute and twenty seconds into that next song, I will record five seconds and then email it to the next person in line. This continues till each episode has been completed.

The result will hopefully be an an engaging and windy musical journey.

In addition to the song, I am asking all participants to record the following script: 'I am (first name) and I choose (artists)'s song, (song title), from their (year) album (album) because (short explanation of why you choose the song)'. For example:

"I am Bryan and I chose Fugazi's song, Cashout, from their 2001 album, 'The Argument'. I chose this song because the previous song had a line about fair housing and that is what this song is about."

These mini-breaks will be compiled into a montage and aired at the end of each episode to personalize the content and provide insight into our collective musical consciousness.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in participating. I will reach out to you as soon as enough people have signed up to start the production process.

Thanks for taking the time.
