I am currently watching this MUST SEE Documentary....
it really fills in where we have come regarding human psychology and consciousness and where we are heading. I really believe that in many ways we have come forward immeasurably.. yet.. at the same time.. facing formidible forces and challenges in transforming human consciousness.
I HIGHLY recommend watching this documentary as it gives a VERY thorough background to the current "energies" that have been at play.. that many of us know that have been at play.. ...
Here is the blurb from the website...
The Century of the Self
The Untold History of Controlling the Masses Through the Manipulation of Unconscious Desires
"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.
We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized." - Edward Bernays
THE CENTURY OF THE SELF
Adam Curtis' acclaimed series examines the rise of the all-consuming self against the backdrop of the Freud dynasty.
To many in both politics and business, the triumph of the self is the ultimate expression of democracy, where power has finally moved to the people. Certainly the people may feel they are in charge, but are they really? The Century of the Self tells the untold and sometimes controversial story of the growth of the mass-consumer society in Britain and the United States. How was the all-consuming self created, by whom, and in whose interests?
The Freud dynasty is at the heart of this compelling social history. Sigmund Freud, founder of psychoanalysis; Edward Bernays, who invented public relations; Anna Freud, Sigmund's devoted daughter; and present-day PR guru and Sigmund's great grandson, Matthew Freud.
Sigmund Freud's work into the bubbling and murky world of the subconscious changed the world. By introducing a technique to probe the unconscious mind, Freud provided useful tools for understanding the secret desires of the masses. Unwittingly, his work served as the precursor to a world full of political spin doctors, marketing moguls, and society's belief that the pursuit of satisfaction and happiness is man's ultimate goal.

I have watched this
I have watched this documentary in full. It really lays it all out there. Still so many people are lost in the illusion.
I saw an Old Navy commercial with the mannequins ice skating and realized I know those people.
Here is an other one you may (not) enjoy, especially if you have kids:
The Merchants of Cool
"They are the merchants of cool: creators and sellers of popular culture who have made teenagers the hottest consumer demographic in America. But are they simply reflecting teen desires or have they begun to manufacture those desires in a bid to secure this lucrative market? And have they gone too far in their attempts to reach the hearts--and wallets--of America's youth?"

The following is something I feel very strongly about needing to do, however do not currently have the funds to make it happen. I have a very popular teenage daughter who is willing to participate and bring in her friends to an underground after school program with this material. Let this be the new 'cool'.

May all be well in our world.

MUST SEE INDEED
This documentary is 4 hours of pure self-deprogramming bliss. If you want to better understand the cultural and social forces behind the political/economic machine we live in today, then you should watch this film.
I've watched many a counter-cultural documentary and this is my favorite for its content and for its production quality. DYNAMITE!!

I love this documentary!
I saw this on a recommendation from a friend about a year ago. Its brilliantly put together with the old stock footage. Really illuminates all the information in the voiceover.
Adam curtis is a great documentary maker. I am interested to see the film he made as part of this exhibit/experience: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_Felt_Like_A_Kiss
