Sorry.. more thoughts on Avatar

My stepfather, who is an Atheist, just sent me an email listing all the negative reviews and attacks on the movie AVATAR.

He saw the movie and he Loved it. he has seen it twice...

When I first heard of the criticisms of Avatar they were here, on Evolver and they dealt more with conspiracy theories and alien overlords....

but I am well.. not really surprised that the RIGHT is having apoplexy over this movie.. but some of the attacks and accusations are real zingers... I just shake my head.. THEY REALLY REALLY REALLY hate this movie.. I don't recall so much hate being lobbed at Matrix or V For Vendetta even... but maybe I wasn't paying attention....

I wonder off hand, if these folks were really looking forward to another hero like TITANIC movie.. or a more mushier Alien movie like ALIENS. After all ALIENS you really hated the alien. It was ugly.. and bad.. and the Humans were the Good guys (usually).. and so that was ok....

but now flip it.. make folks watch something that forces them to perhaps examine imperialistic tendencies.. genocide, and environmental degradation.. and BOY does that trip a trigger BIG TIME.. The RIght does NOT like that at ALL... and they will scream loud and clear that they don't.

They are so red faced in their hatred of this movie they can't see the forest for the trees (perhaps a pun intended)... They say it is an outright attack on Capitalism and Us Military.... however.. they are unable to understand apparently how this is just the latest chapter in millennial eons of Imperialism and warfare for other peoples resources.. it isn't just an attack on the US.. the US is just the latest and greatest to DO This thing.... but try explaining that more complicated concept to someone like Michael Medved, Rush Limbaugh.. whoever...

Yeah.. when we PUSH against the dominant paradigm.. it forces folks to go into a very uncomfortable place and they don't like it. It is in spiritual parlance called RESISTANCE.. and it can make us react in nasty ways...

I think this is just another sign that we are seeing a line being drawn.. Those who are not willing to open up more to shifting our world view and being more in balance and in tune with our ecosystem that gives us life... to those who are .. What is going on in our world today is happening at a fast and furious pace and we will all deal with the emotions and feelings and day to day stuff in different ways.. Sometimes it's gonna be painful... scary...

When you see something like HAITI going on.. where it has had a history of just well.. essentially being a hellhole.. and I mean that from the perspective of the people that live there probably.. and now their entire world HAS literally collapsed... perhaps that too.. makes us ponder our own developed natures future.. the choices we make as nations.. as communities and as individuals.... and what choices have been taken away from us.

Avatar perhaps simplifies this story.. reminds us what we have done.. what we face.. and the choices we can make to turn it around before it is too late....
