Where to start?

It's been hard for me lately to adjust to the life that I want to start living. When I'm feeling sick I reach for the DayQuil to get through my day, and NyQuil so I can sleep well. I have cravings for chips or pastries, and then feel terrible after I eat them. It's easier to stay away from all of this when I see my body as a temple and the only vessel that I'm aware of having in this life, but it's also really hard to go cold turkey when I grew up with these "habits". It's convenient to take the easy way out instead of taking the time to make a tea that will make me feel better or cutting up some fruit that won't make me feel guilty afterwards.

I would just like some starting points if any of you have any suggestions. I must say that even though I'm not a fan of red meat, I do enjoy turkey and chicken...and have been contimplating on starting eating Raw Foods. I want to explore and research holistic medicine and start weening myself from over the counter products. With all of this I was wondering if anybody had good book titles that I could start reading; including herbal remedies for the common cold, headaches, etc.

I know it's a bit much and I think that's why it's all kind of overwhelming...because I really don't know where to start. Any advice on what to read or where to begin would be greatly appreciated.
