I recently came across this article in scientific american that can be viewed online. It is very interesting. Let me know what you all think. Its titled "12 events that will change the world"....http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=interactive-12-events

mix and match....lol

Some of those things we have no say in, regardless our hubris.

The rest, we do have a say in. A choice.
Just because we can, should we? and why?

In a profit, convenience based paradigm, that question is irrelevant. But why should we change existing natural structure because we can, for profits, regardless of other ecological life?

Any or all of those events will definitely change life, especially human life on this planet.

And then what?

Once you change life, the actual physical, psychological, spiritual blocks of life, there is no going back.

You won't be able to back engineer the existence you once had. Even now, we could all return to hunter gatherer status, but what happens when you technologically engineer "man" into something else? Would that option of resetting his course still be available? would it still even matter? and who decides that course?

Simple vs. Complex. I think through a variety of elements, we have lost our comparative compass, so moving forward through complexity and technology is the only choice of course.

In history as far as we have discovered, man has always, so far adapted and survived the natural cataclysmic changes this universe and planet has shown. (precluding a larger discussion of different creations and incarnations of man)

BUT, can man survive his own creations and devices? Bio-warfare, artificially created "life" and "intelligence," reactions to the singularity, application of elemental manipulation, widespread alternate energy production, etc.
Not only just the creations and devices, but the attitudes, economies and power struggles that come with them both financial and spiritual?

That I think is the bigger question. But I think we already know the answer to that question, and like every time before it, someone or some society will ignore the answers and go ahead, believing that if nothing else, they will be insulated from the consequences.... sound familiar?

I like how so many of these topics we've already discussed, but this is super interesting nevertheless!

I would love to see them make a show out of this on Discovery or the History Ch...now somebody just read this, and will make lots and lots of money.

I love you *besito*
