"Banish the word 'struggle' from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. We are the ones we have been waiting for." — Hopi elders

Bio

Carrielynn ‘Xwementelot’ Victor

Carrielynn Victor, born in 1982, has always been a creator. From a time when she drew pictures on the kitchen floor with the drips from her bottle, to her more recent developments in contemporary Coast Salish art forms. The eye for images within objects and life was a gift Carrielynn was born with, and once this was realized she carried on working to perfect varying styles and practicing new ways to create.
Carrielynn has explored many art forms and design styles including, cartoons as a child, pointillism and realism as a teenager. As she moved towards practicing north coast design a passion for the traditional symbolism brought a stronger sense of connection and value to her work. Under the direction of her elders, Carrielynn began the exploration of Coast Salish design style, and deeper more connected meaning within the pieces she was creating began to form.

The works Carrielynn brings out in her art forms are manifestations of her visions and dreams. She is often asked to create the images from other people’s visions and dreams, learning to communicate in a language of images and illustrations. Much of her work is commissioned, although some work is presented or given away, because Carrielynn believes that her gift must be treated with respect and shared with others. Some of Carrielynn’s work can be found in the homes of collectors around the world and some can be found on t-shirts, hats, prints, cards, and canvases in and around the Greater Vancouver area and her hometown Sto:lo community.

Carrielynn continues to create and bring to life the images the world shares as well as the reflections of spirit she sees in her mind’s eye.
