Is a Revolution Possible In The Heart Of All Beings?

Inspired by the revolution in Egypt, I wonder is it possible for there to be a revolution in the hearts of all beings? What would such a revolution mean?
Socially, such a revolution would mean that we recognize ourselves in others. We would see ourselves in the faces of the men and women on the streets of Cairo, on the street corners of America and on the dirt streets of Africa and India. When our heart’s are open we see ourselves in everyone and feel our connection to all beings. We feel their pain and joy as our own, and wish for them all the same joy and happiness that we wish for ourselves.
A revolution of the heart also means that we see ourselves in the faces of our enemies. Can we see ourselves in the faces of Hosni Mubarak and Osama Bin-Laden? Can we love our enemies as much as our friends? If we can then we can stand up to them without hatred but with love. It is important that we stand up for what our hearts tell us is right, that we not be passive or back down out of fear and avoidance. A revolution of the heart acts from a place of real strength. Isn’t this the lesson of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King?
Politically, a revolution in the heart of all beings would mean that we respect everyone, even those we strongly disagree with. We recognize that everyone has a voice in our collective governance. From dictatorships we would turn to democracy as the courageous people of Egypt have just done. In America we would demand true democracy and take back our power from the rule of corporations and self-interested elites.
Economically, we would value each person’s inherent ability to contribute to society. From an economy that amasses wealth in the hands of a few while leaving the masses idle and impoverished, we would shift to an economy that supports fair exchange, is environmentally sustainable and respects the Earth.
Is such a revolution possible? I believe it is and it has already begun. Millions of people around the world are reclaiming their power, socially, politically and economically. They are working for social and political rights, economic equality and environmental sustainability. If you are reading this, surely you are one of these people too. In your heart you recognize that we are all connected and are destinies are all tied together. In Egypt, while there has been some violence and the future is uncertain, it was the power of their hearts that brought them out onto the streets to reclaim their power and strive for a better future.
It is said that the heart emits more energy than any other organ of the body, including the brain. Our hearts emit a field of energy that can me measured great distances from the body. As I pay attention to events in Egypt I feel my heart expand and radiate out to all people around the world. Let us open and expand our hearts and with that love, let us awaken a revolution in the hearts of all beings.
