Do you feel it? There's something happening. More and more people are beginning to rely on do it yourself ideals. Bands aren't signing to major labels anymore. As if they are starting to think that you can't rely on the major businesses. Labels like Sub Pop and Matador are some of the top independent labels among young people my age. With back to the roots blues, folk and psychedelic music of Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, Black Angels and others; there is a kind of music revolution stirring up that's been happening since the middle of the 00's. Young people are revolting against tuition hikes and police brutality, not to mention the Iraq war and all those issues. Spirituality as in psychedelics and meditation are becoming popular among us. The consciousness of the people seem to be awakened more and more each month. People are becoming aware of the ignorant "realities" of the major corporations and businesses that say wearing this type of clothing makes you like sean paul or some other top notch celebrity. I feel that this decade is the one. Like we as people are becoming more conscious. Maybe it is because were are coming of age and we are able to speak out on our views and beliefs. Most of this is coming from kids around 17-21. In a couple years most of the young kids will be old enough to be on their own and do their own things. I really think it may have something to do with the planetary alignments of Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. It occurs every 45 or so years. The last time was in the 60's. According to astrologers around the globe, when Uranus and Pluto align together there is a great deal of awakening that happens and people become more conscious about what is happening around the world. Every time those two planets align whether it be in an opposition, conjunction or square. There has been a major shift and what seems to spark revolts against the "old way" and new ideas start blooming like flowers. I believe that right now our revolution is underground. Getting ready for the right moment to open up to the world with an impact that i feel will last a while. We are in the beginning of a new age. I feel that it is a matter of time before big brother slips up and people realize that the only way we can change is if we get out and do something, if we revolt against what we believe is wrong, If we can take what we were taught from the 60's and progress it further maybe we can change. We must remember while psychedelics and meditation may change us. It doesnt change the way they think. We must bring action with spirituality. More than what they did in the 60's. What hippies and protesters and such only talked about, we need to make happen.
I ramble a lot but I have a great feeling about this. Something is happening. Something that feels like the 60's but on a bigger scale.

I tend to feel that what the
I tend to feel that what the hippies of the 60's planted is going to grow.
i agree
Great post, the question is do we wait for "big brother to slip up" or do we try to organize something ourselves? While I agree that our generation is awakening at an ever increasing rate, it is the same generation that is more obsessed with pop culture than ever. I personally believe the time for action is rapidly, rapidly approaching.
Dont forget.
dont forget, tens of millions of those hippies 'from the past'.... who are all very well and alive, albeit having taken a sojourn from their protest to join the machine and make a living... tens of millions of them are going to retire over the years the indigo generation comes of age...
this confluence is very subtle and quite under the radar.
what will be born of a NEW generation of hippies, who, unlike the first generation of hippies, WILL have elders, who among other important things, can teach the new young thinkers how to avoid the many trappings of how the sixties were 'misplayed', to use a word mcKenna chose, to explain the apparent fizzle out of the great change the sixties promised.
that change, THE SIXTIES... will exhale, when they retire in better health and wealth of ANY generation of retiring americans.
when they take to volunteer work, third and fourth careers, in a shattered economy, how many of them will opt to work with young people, and what great accelerant of change that will be.
have a peanut!
