Who cares what Evolver is doing!

Over the past month or so I have seen a lot of blogs on Evolver asking “what is the point of Evolver?” Well to this all I have to say is who cares. What people should be more concerned with is why are you on Evolver? What do you want out of it? Because when you ask “what is the point of Evolver”, you are essentially questioning what you are doing there. So why don’t you think about that. Obviously something isn’t jivin’ for you, so address that in yourself.
We are also constantly posting blogs about things wrong with the world. For instance, get rid of your car, stop using oil, we can buy electric cars. Did you know that the process of making electric cars and the batteries that go in them causes a significant amount of pollution? Oh and we also don’t have any good ways of disposing of those batteries. What about bikes? Well riding a bike every day generally leads to some fairly serious prostate problems. It also has rubber tires (we all know how evil rubber is), and in some cities they build larger roads for bike lanes, if enough people ride bikes. Construction takes a lot of work and causes a bunch of pollution in the process.
What about the meat industry? Raising live stock causes more pollution to the ozone than the entire oil and automotive industry. So what do we do? Become vegetarians? Well if we do that we still have to get protein from somewhere. Tofu is a great source of protein, or any fake meats. Most fake meats are made with Soy. Ninety percent of the Soy in America comes from Monsanto seeds. Monsanto was voted the most unethical company in the world this year. GMO’s are awful and cause all kinds of crazy shit in your body. What about organic soy and free range animals? Well those are pretty pricy and we all know how evil money is, so why would we support people that are charging us out of our ass?
It seems as though psychedelics do quite a bit to kick start people down the path of awareness. So how do we go about acquiring some psychedelics? Well sometimes I can get my hands on some mushrooms or LSD, it’s tough, but sometimes I can. But both of those things are illegal, oh and LSD isn’t a “natural” substance so it’s bad. I read about all these authors going to the Amazon and having these amazing experiences. How can I do that? Well I know that some people offer retreats down there. I know there are resorts that do it. I also know there is a Shamanism conference once a year there for two weeks. Some of those things are pretty pricy though, and once again money is evil. Also if I fly down there the jet is going to cause a bunch of pollution. So can I get my hands on some Ayahuasca here? Yeah there are some websites online that I can go to and get that. I might get in some trouble with the government if I order that stuff online and get it mailed to my house though. Well I heard about this church in America that uses it as part of its religious practice. They even went before the Supreme Court and won their case for still using it. Can I join that church? Well I looked into it and I think that you had to be of some ethnic descent to join, and had to prove you believed what they do. Well maybe I shouldn’t feel too bad about going to the Amazon. I mean I have read that for the most part the local’s have become less and less interested in the shaman’s knowledge of the last couple decades. This Shaman, Manculoto, the reality sandwich retreat guy, he said that he is the first one in a long line of shaman’s from this particular tradition to spread his knowledge outside the family. Why is he doing that? Well he says he was guided by the spirit to do it, because his family is losing interest and the spirit does not want this knowledge to be lost. So he is doing what he can to keep this very important knowledge around on the planet. In order to do this he has had to resort to teaching it to whoever wants to be taught it, even if they aren’t part of his family.
I also know that there have been some pretty amazing documented cases of healing from the shamans of the Amazon, well they call themselves Ayahuasquero’s. These cases, they have been documented by westerners. One Ayahuasquero cured a man of a brain tumor, another type 2 Diabetes. Naturally, as many westerners do, some of the doctors documenting these cases thought that they had perhaps found a “magic bullet” healing medicine, something that could heal everything. So they collected the Ayahuasca and brought it back to their labs and tried to see how it worked. Something happened when the Ayahuasca was brought out of the Amazon though, it didn’t work. It still made people have the psychedelic trip, but it didn’t cure anything. So they got an Ayahuasquero to come to their labs and go through the same process in their lab. Well something happened with that also, it didn’t work. The Ayahuasquero said that he needed the power of his land to help him with his work. Personally, from my stand point, if I’m going to accept that the spirit of this magic vine can heal people I can also accept that the spirit of the land it comes from also helps the process. So I think that someday I would like to have this Ayahuasca experience, but I also think that I would like to have it in its natural environment. I wouldn’t want to miss out on the full healing power of the spirit of the vine, and the spirit of the jungle. But is it selfish of me to cause the pollution it would take to get me down there? Maybe.
Oh, there is another thing that I haven’t mentioned yet. A very large number of very reputable scientist’s have come out, with evidence, and shown that climate change and global warming are a hoax. What?? That doesn’t make any sense. A large number of scientists have shown evidence that global warming is happening, right? That’s strange isn’t it? So who do I believe? Well one of the points that these scientists trying to show that global warming is a hoax have made is that they have nothing to gain, where as it seems as though global warming is a strong catalyst driving us towards a one world government of sorts. So if climate change and global warming are a hoax, then who cares if I drive a hummer or eat all the meat in the world? It’s not hurting anything, and I have science on my side. Another point that I have been exposed to came from Buckminster Fuller in his book Critical Path. He said in that book that factories cause all the pollution. That the fumes that they are producing are causing it and that it has nothing to do with cars or anything the people are doing. He pointed out that when the city of Los Angeles approached the factories in their area about their polluting fumes, they just threatened to take their business elsewhere. After that the city fearing losing their revenue decided to take a different angle and blame the people and their cars for the pollution. So that leads towards the idea that cars aren’t making much of an impact on the air quality, the factories are. I do believe that bikes and running shoes are made in factories.
For the record I am a vegetarian, I don’t own a car, I ride my bike everywhere, I refuse to shop at a number of corporations, and I have taken psychedelics, even manmade ones. I do believe in offering westerners psychedelic retreats in the Amazon, especially because the indigenous people seem to be losing interest in the knowledge that has been passed down for centuries. I also don’t think we have any less of a right to the knowledge of the vine. But another point I’d like to make is that it doesn’t matter what I believe. I’m betting that over the course of reading this that some things resonated well with some and horrible with others, and vice versa. That was the point. There are multiple sides to every argument and none of them are wrong. We should all stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and judging and breaking down other people all the time. Once again I come back to who cares what the point of Evolver is. Evolver represents a bunch of people that are doing what they feel is best to help change the world. I personally believe it is a wonderful platform to help facilitate others in inspiring change. Stop wondering why this site exists and judging others on it. Start thinking about why you are here. What can Evolver do to help you in your own journey. I don’t think that constantly trying to pick it apart with criticism is doing anyone any good, including yourself.

One of the things I appreciate most about you is your ability to inspire by way of stirring the pot. Its no secret that I often choose the route of harmony and ease (Venus), but I so very much appreciate your taste for agitation and challenge (Mars). If I have learned anything about people at all in all my years of counseling, educating, and facilitating, I have learned that for most people it takes serious agitation of some sort of another to finally challenge their core enough to make choices to change that they actually follow through with.
I know this is going to piss some of our community off, but, I gotta say; sometimes that's not such a bad thing. When we become agitated enough to be uncomfortable, we can also learn more about ourselves by asking ourselves, deep inside, what has had so much power over us to knock us off our center.
That de-centering is never about the messenger, no matter how much we may think so (it happens to me ALL THE TIME!!!! lol), it just isn't. It's about the message and the point that messenger shared that pisses us off. And being pissed off is a catharsis for self-examination. For this reason, and many others, I regard you as one of the greatest teachers I have ever known!!!
Thank you baby, I am so proud of you, and I love you so much!

(Edit - One thing I disagree with... Who cares what Evolver is doing? Well... everybody!)
I came here because another member was very enthusiastic about getting me to join. I don't really remember what I expected back then... but I was probably hoping to talk with more like-minded people. Mission accomplished =) However, that's just a step-stone to whatever good that change brings.
I have criticized Evolver before -- and I've criticized the Evolvers too. Believe it or not, there is a huge difference... but people tend to take it the same way. A lot of us have nay-sayed in our time here. I know it gets old when it seems like everybody -- or a large handful -- are clinging to Doubt. But it has a purpose.
Looking back, I'm glad I was allowed to exercise my freedom to criticize this place and its members. Nobody stopped me -- I ended up stopping myself. The whole thing got me to think further... especially before I create a blog.
All I'm saying here Chris, is that since I was allowed to air my grievances, I try to allow others to do the same thing. Maybe it doesn't solve anything from our perspectives because all we really see is the criticism -- but there might be a whole world of inner turmoil and transformation going on for the criticizer that is unbeknownst to us.
I just think it deserves to be allowed. Enjoyed reading this, thanks for sharing
...
I'd also like to point something out Chris... I don't think it's so much about the fact that people are posting blogs that question evolver... its more about the fact that these type of blogs (and ones that question/criticize others) get the most amount of responses usually and stick to the most commented page and the main page. There are a lot of blogs being created, it's just that these kind of blogs tend to get a lot of attention. Which you are giving!
So, yeah, whatever. If that's what people like talking about, then why not? Who cares?
...
I agree with most of your blogs Chris, that is why I post on them from time to time. I probably even agree with this blog. I'm really just playing- I come here to play. Did it occur to you that your blog is part of the cycle of attention that is going on? Maybe or maybe not.
Maybe my comments at times aren't of the "dude you are so right and so awesome" variety. Hey, none of us are perfect. But for what its worth, you're still awesome.
Cheers,
Meade

Just sayin'...
my take if I may
I hear what you are trying to convey Chris and kinda agree to a certain degree with you too...however, I reckon that a blog that questions/critises Evolver/Evolvers has its place here as well...as I feel it is part of the "coming to terms" or "becoming a part of the community" kinda process...
what I mean by this? I had/have my doubts as well (past and present) and whilst many issues that you raised reasoned well with me I also tried to see what Evolver does to me and why I am here...
coming from our own distinct realities (whatever they may be) and diving into this community here will induce a metamorphosis I propose...or like a snake ridding itself of its old/dead skin we also need to rid ourselves of those issues/takes on things that have been part of our lives for so long...and at times it will make us question whether the path we have chosen is the right one...
voicing a critisism or raising a question is part of the process of making sense...of ourselves and everything new around us...so I think it is actually pretty positive and also healthy that people here do so...(and I would even take it this far, if we weren't to do so...we would get stuck...as a bit of constructive critisism or a bit of a deeper questioning things will help all of us to "evolve"...as a community...as otherwise we wouldn't have anything to rejiggle and re-consider and build something new upon)...
ok
agreed...if it is dissing someone, something or an idea outright without really offering an alternative or new idea and doing so via a new blog and not via the comment section of the original blog (if there has been one)...that we can do away with - although, is it not kinda a reflection of our lovely society "outside" and shows we are not yet there where we want to be...consciously or subconsciously...it may just take a bit more time...and also ppl to point out that it is not cool that way...which I think you have done (albeit in a bit of an angry way not? ;)...)
and this reflection issue for me also goes for the "highest rated" stuff as well...in 2 ways:
a) it seems that critics are always those who draw in the flocks or when was the last time that some new idea/some positive action spread like a wildfire across the globe "outside"...seems just the same in here...and
b) the rating stuff seems to be an issue still (of acceptance and/or fitting in?) ...I have to admit I grok anything that is interesting on both sides...whether I agree or not...maybe this is wrong or not I don't really care...but it should not be about me and whether I agree or not but whether it is something I deem that everyone should take a look at and for me this is why I rate...as yes, many blogs are being missed because they do not have a high-enough rating (or how many blogs do you read with 0 groks? maybe you are like me and at least read the first few paragraphs...and see whether your attention is being grabed, but maybe not and you go via the "approval of the community" system...and only read those which were (higher)rated...is that not also a question that needs to be posed?)
talking with one another
is the least we can do being located at different points on the globe...
I assumed the "angry" would stick...and understand that it is frustration more than anything else...I hear you...but don't you reckon that those who complain are just frustrated as well...yes, there is a lot of talk about "nothing is being done outside" but I reckon it is just frustration which I fall into as well at times as I would love a (r)evolution that kinda makes change kick in straight away...impatience that is...and leads to frustration at times...
amazing people are around here indeed...and we all have fantastic ideas of what "our world" would and should look like...and we share these ideas...and at times...we get frustrated as those ideas are just that...ideas...and we can only see little change...some are involved - like you - with spores and in other ways...others are not...and yet, they still change and induce change and the ideas spread...but because it's not - and will not be - a big bang...(and oh how do we love big bangs!)...we don't see and realise the changes in us, around us and amongst us...so many times we just don't see
as much as you are frustrated with those who complain as much they are frustrated with what they can't see or see not happening fast enough...I think we need to give eachother a break and instead of going back and forth, frustrated and complaining...how about realising and understanding the why...and help eachother out of the dark spiral of impatience/frustration and what have you...
I have not been around here that long...around 5 months or such...and am not sure whether such negativity has been around always and I only have noticed now...whether it comes around at times...or whether it has just been the case the past few weeks?...but I really would not mind start working on/talking bout solutions...and leave the rest behind us...
I really appreciate your
I really appreciate your post Chris.
For myself I am trying to find/follow common threads. Common threads in ideas about community, and the common threads to the awakening people as individuals seem to go through. Connection implies that we can and do affect and help one another. How is an ongoing process...
My own trip through this life has been a trip. I wouldn't know how to advise anyone how to handle their own details (even though I do), mine take up 24 hrs a day of my time.
But ( ! ), there are commonalities to our experience, and we do reflect one another as well as ourself. As someone in a comment above suggested, as I think you also suggest, we should be able to agree to remember that as we interact with one another.
I think the larger question we ask ourselves in a community like evolver is this: what possibilities do we have with one another? Can we create the understanding that creates the space for everyone to just be themselves? Even a little bit of personal growth is enough to understand that everyone is valid. What does that look like when a group agrees with one another that personal validity is common amongst the group. That is, can we accept one another simply so...?
Our perspectives are not common from one person to the next. Everyone sees things differently. Some experiences are common, but not much else... Therefore consensus seems to me to be an unrealistic expectation when it comes to what we as individuals do. There is no realistic way to believe we will all one day behave similarly. I know that at a certain point, I will change just because I am tired of the picture I am looking at.
We are great critics every one of us, especially of ourselves.
I would really be curious if other people feel that we should be able to have social expectations of one another given the literal impossibility of ever verifying with out a shadow of a doubt, all of the information that is put out in our society.
You pointed out in your original post Chris, there are any number of ways one can look at an issue. Fresh water for example, is there too little or plenty for all? From which perspective one chooses to present ideas about water is the question. It looks different from different viewpoints...
So I am asking, everyone really... what are we doing? Is the idea here that everyone is going to end up having the same digestive lifestyle? Clothing choices? Professional choices? On and on it goes...
Do we want space, or do we want structure?
Steve
eggonalimb.net
goodness gracious
if we were all to end up having the same digestive lifestyle, clothing choices, professional choices and if we were to have the same opinions and follow the same ideas without the space (as you put it Steve) to be ourselves...I would be the first to walk out. Guess I answered one of your question here - I want space.
However, I also want structure - and I think we can have both! All we need is respect - respect the other to have another opinion, another take on things, another idea of what to do/believe/think/say BUT alongside common morals and set of values. I think the values we share already to a certain degree - how much structure is too much I don't know, how little is just enough I don't know either...
All in all - I don't care if anyone is different as long as they don't care that I am different too - it goes both ways not?
Ok - I'm going round in circles now, not? Honestly, solving/finding an answer to you question seems to be both, tricky and imperativ! And I reckon I should ponder about it a wee bit longer...
so many issues.
good job chris, and i like seeing someone take on the naysayers, because god knows the world could use more productive critiquing, rather than dismissive pretentious criticism.
i like this idea that if some are just spouting 'what's evolver for?'... and little else,.. then perhaps the next question they ask themselves could be 'what am i doing here?' love that point.
addressing them,,... well, that might be what they're doing here. conjuring distraction? disruption? we've seen this before. no movement is without it's critics, healthy critics, and crab-apple naysayers. (agents provocateur; let us not be so jolly that we think evolver.net is without a slew of them.)
the day i found evolver, one of my first thoughts was, 'gee this is nice. how old is this site? oh my, how progressive, what a great bunch of people' i joined.
ive seen from day one as a person using the internet, that the most 'popular' items seem to be the most negative, because the conflict causes drama, and drama attracts numbers of people. there's a clue.
i myself love that it is so easy to spot the crap. if everyone in oprah's audience is ape-shit excited about something, i know right there, probably CRAP. what im saying is that if the landscape seems to indicate that the naysayers get the high ratings, then skip the high ratings list, dig in the receded corners. that's how i found YOU!
as for the environmental issue in the amazon, traveling there, and polluting our way to and fro... i say:
SAVE THE SACRED KNOWLEDGE.
do what of the journey you can do here, HERE.
do what of the journey you can do THERE, there.
im sure the plants know what theyre doing.
after all, humans are the only species that put ITSELF on the endangered list.
as for posting ideas when we voice opinions...
perhaps evolver could invite some of the ayahuasceros to our respective cities, host their trips. video the respective talks, and then share those videos during a video share film fest?
i have a flat in philly i'd gladly share.

So what you're all saying,
So what you're all saying, is that if I disagree I am an agent provocateur? That I should just fall in line, agree with everything, and let the people whose Ideas you agree with speak with no criticism ? That sounds like following orders to me.
Because I disagree sometimes with issues that others post, am I being negative ? Yet being told to just SHUT UP! SIT DOWN! is somehow positive ? Going along with staus quo is not change, by definition.
I've written plenty of blogs that people have disagreed with, and some vehemently. It's your right and your choice to agree or disagree, and personally, I WELCOME disagreement with my ideas...otherwise they would just become DOGMA.
Isn't this a right/wrong duality ?
Isn't that what we are trying to change ?
Are we here to evolve, or become just another personality cult ?
Yeah, but...
Chris,
I for one have not disagreed for disagreements sake. I think I have legitimate questions in regard to the retreat. Is it me saying something or someone's "bad" when I voice my concerns?
You make it sound like there's this cabal of people trying to undermine Daniel and Jonathan, and everyone else that puts their love and effort into Evolver. I've never said that Daniel is "wrong" or that Jonathan and others don't work their asses off. I've never said that the retreat should be free and that Evolver staff shouldn't be paid. That's just ridiculous.
If I didn't care, if I didn't love what this site and those who work on it 24/7 was about, I wouldn't comment.
And saying someone has no ideas of their own simply because they voice a concern on someone else's blog is a bit of one-sided thinking.
Never mind
Again, I never said they don't have a right to do the retreat or earn money...
I hear you chris and
I hear you chris and agree... I don't know if I'll be able to go this time but I'm planning on saving some money to go on june or july with RS or on my own... dunno yet...
My two cents here is that even though I see your frustration your responses to others blogs sound like you’re telling them to shut up, that they don’t know what their saying and most importantly that they are wrong... like I said everyone is entitled to their own opinion and as far as I’ve read in those who criticize the retreat... haven’t seen anything offensive to anyone on RS or Evolver... maybe I’m being too naïve?
Censoring others just because you think they are wrong (regardless if that is true or not) is just what daddy government does to us... and to me at least your responses to those blogs read too harsh and censoring... for whatever is worth I like your posts and the analogies you make in them but this time it seems the frustration is getting the best of you...
Peace buddy and all the above is with much respect.
yup I agree 100%... I went
yup I agree 100%... I went to the first RS retreat last year and it was worth every single penny... and you know... I'm not trying to tell you what to say or not but those concerns (ridiculous or not) seems to me that are going to re occur due the large amount of new users that are not fully immerse (as you are) in the RS and evolver websites and we can use this type of blogs to test ourselves how to respond in an informative way, also some folks feel really strong about the jet fuel pollution and regardless of what you and I think they are going to keep posting... and that kind of balances the stream of ideas...
I'll keep supporting as much as possible RS and this website with my money or my time or both and also checkout the other options that fellow evolvers bring to the plate... anyway enough with this subject, like I said I'm planning on going to Peru around June (god permit) and I also want to go to Real de catorce, Mex to try Peyote... I visited (I think 3 years ago) the chamula community in Chiapas, Mex and being there made me appreciate so much 'bout my mother culture (I'm Mexican if u haven't notice yet =P) as well as help with my horrible and evil money by buying their beautiful crafts... now i want to do more than that so I'm educating myself in sustainable architecture and hopefully I'll be able to check out some workshops on adobe bricks and natural building at new mexico, since I'm moving to El paso, tx which closer than san antonio (where I live now) and I'll have Juarez right next door... maybe I can start stirring something there... this are my plans/dreams as in now hopefully I'll be able to accomplish them... wish me luck...
Peace
such a coincidence my
such a coincidence my birthday is also in June the 30th to be exact... and I am reading Critical path hahaha what are to odds... haven't finish it cuz I'm reading another book called the artist's way by Julia Cameron but now that you bring bucky up I'll resume my reading... thanks for the advice on the spores I actually did one here at san anto but I got disappointed with the response and than I got distracted with some stupid shit but I'm back on track although now cuz my job I'm moving which I see as a sign... this last Christmas I was going to go to New Mexico (had the tickets and all) but my dear gramma passed away on the 27th and I cancelled it... also I've been yearning to spread the knowledge with my fellow mexicans but for lack of time and creativity on my part haven't... well this move only comes to show me that I have things pending (the proximity to New Mex and Mexico and the bi-cultural exchange)... I don't believe in coincidences... now is up to me to make it happen... nice chatting with you
so how does this work?
i could not help but notice this morning that the post that was critical of the evolver retreat has vanished from the first 4 pages but this one that has had less activity is still at the top?
WoW is all I can think of
WoW is all I can think of here as I am new to this site and have just spent the last thirty minutes reading this blog posting. I am wondering what if anyone did anything during all of this that was inspirational or of service for the higher good during this time? Just curious as I am sure someone did. =)
Honestly, very informative, producing evolution of consciousness to some degree, just in the unity aspect alone. One of the greatest achievement's is communication done in honesty and integrity, then results are seen just in the simplest ways, such as the building up and edification that happens here at the end....bravo'
Chris, I am a pirate too and would love these ebooks you have, or start me where you think would be best...I trust you will make the right choice and look forward to learning more about this community. I am wondering are you a 'legal entity'? so that you can go for grant money, etc...

my comment was addressed to CHRIS; that if he feels there is some kind of negativity going on for the sake of negativity, if he indeed feels this is the case, then he might consider that possibility.
i sorta get the impression that chris is not afraid of disagreements, different points of view, or the firey exchange that can take place when different points of view arise. i suspect evolver is the place id BRING ideas like that, with the full confidence that a conscious community could engage, rip a subject apart, without ripping one another apart.

Something to think about...
Did you know that every state in the union has at least one psychedelic mushroom that grows naturally?
It's true! And my friend's brother's roomate's girlfriend once said that if you were to check out Paul Stamets books, learn some mycology(including how to do a spore print, it's simpler than you think!) and be very VERY careful you might be able to find some of those mushrooms and not have to worry about police or dealers. She also said that you could compare a list that one could find via Google with one of Staments' books and track down the particular mushrooms in your state.
Of course, I wouldn't recommend it because it would be illegal. And immoral. And fattening.
Would he were fatter! But I fear him not:
Yet if my name were liable to fear,
I do not know the man I should avoid
So soon as that spare Cassius. He reads much;
He is a great observer
three cheers to that!
your blog allowed me to breathe a huge sigh of relief...someone else gets it!!
