Capitalism and Societal Progression in Relation to Systems Theory: A Broad Outline

A brief cross-examination of prominent intellectual developments in Western civilization to changes in the economic systems applied at the times of these breakthroughs allows one to draw the conclusion without difficulty or much stipulation that the two systems (the economic and intellectual systems) inseparably effect one another; furthermore, they either inhibit or induce change in each other, d

Buddha's More Probable Standing on the Concept of the Self

It is a bit of a controversy within Buddhist circles and people who study Buddhist philosophy as to what Siddhartha meant with his concept of nonatman. At one side of the argument is the theory that the Buddha meant to imply the nonexistence of atman. The other leading theory holds up he doe not mean to imply the nonexistence of atman, but rather of ego, personality, and the like.

About Me

Bio

I do not know whether existence is constantly increasing in complexity or rather if my own thoughts are becoming more integrated with themselves. What I like to think I know is people are beginning to notice this complexity, whether its an internal change or exterior, or perhaps both.
I am currently a sociology major at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The desert is an ideal location to partially detach oneself from the torrent of American consumerism and materialism. During the dry starry nights one can find a solace in the quiet, in the sea of sand and eroded rock which separates this city from the other islands of modern human civilization.
When one is unconscious of circumstances, events, systems, or their own psyche, they are a "victim to nature". Instead of reality being consciously directed, the observer does not have the information in order to be conscious of occurrences. Being a victim to nature can be as simple as not understanding the source of your aggression, joining the military out of economic resort, or adhering to consumerism. It is whenever one is pushed about, unaware, with no cognizance or awareness of how these events or situations manifest. For as soon as understanding is achieved, one has the capacity to alter reality, to be a true observer.
This is what I wish to accomplish for myself, and hope that humanity can accomplish in the macro through acting in the micro. In order for true progression, we must expand our awareness. And as Carl Jung demonstrated, the growth of consciousness entails the growth of problems, because we become more aware of possibilities, and problems are a natural result. Yet it is the awareness of these problems which allows for growth of awareness. So we must be brave in the coming years. We must seize every opportunity.
Most importantly, we must dispel every fear. Fear is the antithesis to growth, and thus the expansion of awareness so desperately needed. All fears must be dispelled.

Skills and talents
Keeping alive this fragile, complicated, sensitive body for even twenty years seems to be a borderline miracle. Especially in altered states of consciousness, I realize that the impulse to survive is unbelievably stronger than the ability to do just that. Which might be the source of our fear of death.
