Sometimes people are in moments of ecstasy, Mystical experiences, described as Enlightenment. But, the connection is severed and they come down to their usual state of awareness. And because it was a temporary state, often times they are discouraged by their assumptions that 'true' Enlightenment is everlasting, permanent. And they then attach future expectations based on the memory of the experience. The state they came down from is objectified as something to be attained; and will try to recreate the conditions. And they think "if I try harder, concentrate more, double the dosage", etc. They become blinded by a selfish desire to possess that state of awareness, and to hold on to it. Each effort they put into planning the perfect conditions in which the experience may present itself again, they are being taken further and further from their intended destination. It does become exactly a destination; for Enlightenment is sold as a permanent and unchanging state of being. It is the fool's errand.

By letting go of the idea of Enlightenment, the transcendental can be experienced. By not trying, they can attain. By not reaching out, they allow the experience to perch in their hand. By letting go of possessivenes, they flow with the experience, become the Enlightenment experience.

It is guiding a kite in the wind. By not trying, by not yanking and steering, but by simply allowing, the kite will fly its highest and most graceful. The kite is sending information. It is simply showing the where and how nature is flowing. All they have to do is flow with the breeze. So, too, is Enlightenment the kite above. So long as one can flow with the airs of their nature, one can effortlessly sustain the state of being. And if one comes to find their kite in hand, simply guide it aloft, so that it may guide in return.

Excellent blog fodder Craig...

I very much enjoyed this blog. On a personal level it's speaks well to my own experiences. I have been on the path for 30 years. I started my journey with a peak experience borne of desperate need. The experience was so wonderful I wanted to find a way to make it my own. I studied religious texts from all over the world, then ventured into philosophy. Eastern books like Bhagavad Gita, A course in Miracles and the Tao brought me closer to truth, but my search was never sated. I decided to stop searching outward and began instead to look within. With the aid of mushrooms and LSD I was able to finally acquire a peak experience a second time in my life.
The sweet taste of God-self realisation became the foundation for all truth I later came to know.
I now understand I am capable of finding the same truth in my everyday life. It is not about recreating peak experiences as that obviously is not realistic. God-self consciousness is really about knowing oneness and choosing to express this truth in the form of love. Being God-self is about seeing only love in every manifest moment of the Now.
I spent most my life thinking that enlightenment was something I had to learn or develop. I never thought I would achieve this level of truth. I came to believe the closest I could come would be to conduct my life with virtuous principles. Imagine my surprise when I learned that God-self realisation is as simple as choosing only love. Enlightenment is not about doing, it is about being.
Thanks again for your astute observations Craig.

Namaste, my brother Craig, spreader of light and love.

GodIam, It warms me that you

GodIam,

It warms me that you are journeying well in this life. And thank you for your response, I have learned from it.
Very simply but most important, do not search and you will find. Remember, there is nothing out there that isn't before you now. Do not just see love in every manifest, you must feel it, it must become you. When you are Love, you have transcended the self.

Namaste.

The Mystic and the Kite

The Kite is a beautiful metaphor '.......simply guide it aloft so that it will guide you in return.' I have found this to be the key in my painting and writing and in my relationships........it is this tentative sending out and receiving back that informs and guides us, as you say. Thank you for your wisdom, Craig......

Well, you're quite welcome,

Well, you're quite welcome, Margie. And yes it is certainly the key to all arts. Recently, I expressed concern to a dear friend; I was perplexed about the progress of my current book. I didn't know if I was writing the book or if the book was writing me. Wisely, he said that the book should not only be writing me, but also righting me. How true. I would add to it that art as an expression of the artist is far less meaningful than the artist as an expression of his art. I am glad that you have found your kite in both your art and in relationships.

Namaste.

creativity and the kite

Exactly so, Craig. I have found that I begin a new piece (painting or writing) with a general idea in mind, I tentatively launch my kite and I am always surprised at where the kite takes me and at the 'end' point (is there really an end) I have flown a course I hadn't plotted and there has been a reshaping of my experience-- as well as myself. It is exhilerating.........
