How To Save The Planet

In the fall of 2007 I got a call from Dr. Helmut Sieke, a German physicist/inventor, about doing an animated film for his company, Sirex GEOthermic, which would illustrate how his pulse hydraulic vertical tunnel drilling machine and the geothermic power plants, made possible by this technology, work. After meeting with Dr. Sieke, I realized that he needed not just a short film about the drilling process but also, and more importantly, a much larger media treatment of what he was proposing because of the immense implications of his work…which has been largely ignored (I wonder why…see below) by the political and “big energy” establishment to this point.
Below is an excerpt from a summary of Dr. Sieke’s process.
“There is a new renewable energy technology that can truly revolutionize the way energy is produced around the world for a fraction of the cost of what we all pay for electricity now. There are zero emissions, zero heat loss to atmosphere, and this energy can last indefinitely into the future with no damage to local or larger ecosystems. It is called ‘Geothermic Energy’ (not geothermal...problems inherent with geothermal not a factor here. This is addressed in comments section of The Real Scandal post...CW) and it uses the deep crust (lithosphere) heat.
It works like this: utilizing a new coring technology that employs dynamic forces that can be adjusted to the different rock materials breaking point, it can easily bore through the various layers efficiently and effectively in a 10’ diameter vertical tunnel, making it possible now to go as deep as 12 miles down to reach the hot rock zone. This tunnel is built robotically, is ringed with re-enforced casing, equipped with periodic horizontal platforms to act as locks, and pressurized with an inert gas to stabilize the tunnel and subterranean earth movement, and then through an adiabatic process - nitrogen (not water) - is heated from the earth’s deep, solid rock heat reserves, which is used to turn a turbine/generator and produce an inexhaustible, clean energy source. One of these tunnels will produce 2,000 megawatts of power, or the equivalent of approximately 600,000 U.S. homes. The boring equipment can be scaled up or down, depending on the project, and can be used for numerous other applications as well…
…These new tunnels can penetrate down to depths that can reach the desired temperature of about 500 ºC from anywhere on land around the globe. This means that it is now possible to drill down to more than twice the current depths with varying diameter bore tunnels much more efficiently and far less wear on the equipment to recover naturally occurring heat 24/7/365, indefinitely into the future, greatly reducing the cost of electricity to the customer…
…The world of mining has changed. The efficient harvesting of high temperatures on a large scale with large bore-diameters is now obtainable, eliminating the need for a fuel source, emitting no pollution, and creating zero wasted heat or toxic waste…”
This approach to energy production, along with Dr. Sieke’s additional proposal for building village size “GEOtowers”…self contained archologies…atop these subsurface (and safe) GEO power plants, could change…in the long run…the way we inhabit the planet. I will get into detail about this aspect of the project in another post.
