I went to my first Shamanic talk the other evening. I am hoping to do a course with these guys and thought I would go along to see what kind of people they are. Totally lovely I am happy to report and I will be doing the course asap. Sincerity is such an amazing trait and these people just oozed it.

We did a half hour journey while they drummed. Even though we were packed in like sardines, and finding the space to lie down involved folding your arms and legs over and under yourself most oddly, the journey was unhindered.

The sound of the cars and the sirens outside just faded away and I was walking through the fields. At first as I walked I was stressing a bit. Is this the right field? Should I walk this way or that? What if I don't meet a power animal? Will it be the first animal I see?

For a while I just walked and saw no animals of any sort. Not even birds and I was on a cliff! Slowly I began to relax and my mind began to settle. We had been advised to ask a question if we met a power animal or guide. I couldn't think of one that I felt was important enough but with each step I felt less worried.
Lo and behold a bird swooped down before me. I expected an eagle or a hawk (something impressive) but as it slowed down I realised it was something akin to a seagull.

We talked! I tried to think of a good question and we did discuss something or other but it all seemed instantly forgettable. Looking back it was a trance version of small talk - though I don't think I sank as low as "any holidays planned"!
The gull eventually began to stretch his wings and circle a bit as if to say "well if there is nothing else ...."

"I try" I say. The bird looks quizzical. "I try to remember. I try to remember to try." The bird sits back down. "I try to remember to invite synchronicity into my day. I try to remember to trust life. I try to remember to relax, to be nice, to not react to other peoples issues, to be positive, to be still from time to time, to live in the now. I try to remember but sometimes I forget".

'But sometimes you remember" said the bird."Often you remember and that is what is important. "Think of a glass of water. It won't spin unless you stir it but when you do stir it, even if you take out the spoon the water will still swirl for a time afterwards. Just remember as often as you can and it will be enough to keep it all going. You don't have to stir continuously you just have to stir enough!

And with that it was time to go. The bird led me to some smaller animal who walked with me as I left. I arrived back to the cramped room with this amazingly comforting and uplifting reassurance. If I just remember enough I can create the right conditions in my life for synchronicity and harmony. We all can. Effort will be rewarded.
