Global Revolution Underway

Saturday’s global rally in over 600 towns and cities worldwide was a momentous event. A month ago, the Occupy Wall Street movement managed to pierce the veil of the matrix. The puncture has now become an unsealable rip in the fabric of Empire. Gas is escaping rapidly from the balloon.
We are seeing the inception of a global insurrection that will not end until the dominant system is overthrown and replaced through a planetary metamorphosis. The mainstream media continues to play down the Occupy phenomenon, critiquing its lack of specific demands. Specific demands are pointless, because the entire political, social, and economic system in which we exist has rotted out from the inside. Demands would suggest that there is a way to reform the present system, but no reformist initiative is possible.
As someone who wrote about the prophecies of indigenous cultures such as the Maya and the Hopi, I believe the time we are in is one of constantly accelerating transformation. The process we are undergoing as a collective organism leads to an evolutionary leap of consciousness on a species level. This mutation happens within the next few years - it is already happening now.
As part of this process, we will develop an integral worldview, a holistic perspective that realizes the value of indigenous and traditional knowledge systems without rejecting the scientific and technical developments of modern times. The Occupy movement has erupted as a planetary outcry against economic and social injustice. The consciousness movement has to discover its voice as a part of this movement. The revolution will be spiritual in essence - or it is doomed to repeat the horrific mistakes of the past, and fail.
As of yet, we lack the language to express the new world that supersedes the old one, even though we feel it in our hearts. The new paradigm that is opening before us demands that we take care of the human family as a whole, redistributing wealth and resources equitably. At the same time, we must cease our destructive assault on the planetary ecology, and engage in a deep practice of environmental restoration. Since the current economic system makes this impossible, we must develop, design, and distribute a new system for exchanging value. The technical genius of humanity needs to be redirected from creating state-of-the-art video games and stock trading programs to strengthening natural resilience, building self-sufficient local communities that grow their own food, and launching social technologies that support collaborative decision-making and nonviolent communication.
The path before us requires voluntary renunciation and voluntary simplicity to reduce our burden on the earth. Therefore, the old paradigm that sees accumulation of wealth and immediate material satisfaction as the goal needs to be rejected collectively. We are going to step into a new realization of our purpose - of the meaning of human life, in itself. We are going to remember, and relearn, what every ancient civilization and traditional culture tells us: that our lives have a spiritual meaning, above all. Existence in this world is an initiatory process to prepare us for the transition to other conditions of being, other worlds or bardo realms beyond this one.
The duality of spirit and matter also needs to be overcome. Indigenous people do not recognize this dualism - they do not imagine spirit to be above or outside of this realm, but within it. Instead of a sky religion, their spiritual practices are rooted in sensuous connectivity with the earth. In a sense, indigenous cultures are much more truly materialist than our society, as they see the essential value of the natural world as an expression of the Creator, and do not try to impose abstract systems on to it.
Our civilization has been ruled by a mindset that sees life as a means rather than an end. In the past, guilt and postponement were inscribed in a religious creed that put off redemption to some distant future. Recently, science replaced religion with a fundamentalist vision of technological progress, leading to a time when humans merge with silicon or create artificial intelligences that succeed us. This is also a delusion that keeps us alienated from the living present.
We don’t know what it will be like to live in a society where life is realized as the ends in itself - where we seek to benefit the collective by nurturing and supporting each individual. We can only anticipate that it will be wonderful to find out.
The consciousness movement has the sacred task of integrating our understanding of spirit and Psyche into the rapidly unfolding movement for planetary justice and social regeneration. This global movement is part of an initiatory process for humanity as a whole that will bring about a transformation of both the individual and collective ego-structure. The goal is not the destruction of the ego but the attainment of an ego-free state - liberation from the tyrannical demands of the ego, which can never be satiated. Similarly, we don’t want to see the smashing of current institutions, but their alchemical transmutation, so they support our human community and safeguard the resources of the natural world. Humanity, as a whole, is rapidly losing our appetite for violence and destruction. We are increasingly sick of the negative patterns of the past, and ready to overcome the inertia.
As part of this process, it would be great to refine messages that express the integrative state of consciousness in social and political terms, and use the viral power of social media to disseminate them. Among the literature being distributed at rallies and occupation zones, a set of documents could explain the value of non-ordinary states of consciousness, initiatory experience, and shamanic practices. It would also be great if holistic healers, yoga instructors, practitioners of a vast array of alternative spiritual technologies, visit the Occupy encampments and offer their services, free of charge, along with other forms of advice and instruction. I am sure this is already happening to some degree - it is increasingly a quality of this time that events proceed faster than my ability to articulate or respond to them. While that is humbling for a writer, it is beautifully satisfying for anyone who has awaited and anticipated, so impatiently and for so long, the metamorphosis that is now underway.

thanks, i really like the
thanks, i really like the point that we need to refine messages of higher states of consciousness in order to disseminate them more easily to the masses. arbitrary vocabulary can lead to confusion. and words like love and even peace have been so abused that few seem able to agree what they mean.
we must remember that there are dangers in diving into higher states of consciousness. though they can easily be guarded against through maintaining an attitude of service to others; that we are not seeking these states for our own base desires, but to be a catalyst in uplifting all.
i too have been anticipating the metamorphosis that is now underway. and i suspect the new vocabulary we are seeking will emerge organically as this process moves forward.
Really Well Said!
Thank you, Daniel,
You're able to say what I'd like to say in a way (that is, with fullness and detail) that I can't seem to quite say it, but I'd like to think I'm thinking it...
I hope you'll be willing to continue to play a big part of our "horizontal governance."
Cheers & Blessings,
Robert
video games
I obviously realize the Importance of what you are conveying Daniel, as this has been the fundamental issue for me since i was a teenager in the 90s being brought up on the ideas of Mckenna.
Are you against playing Video Games and their development all together?
Do you not feel that Video games are a artistic medium that deserves its chance for expression?
Shamanaut
Everything is permitted
Nothing is true
Why don't you offer your own services for free?
"It would also be great if holistic healers, yoga instructors, practitioners of a vast array of alternative spiritual technologies, visit the Occupy encampments and offer their services, free of charge, along with other forms of advice and instruction."
I completely agree with what you're saying and I also realize that in this world one must have a certain amount of money in order to have a roof over their head and enough food to eat. However, if you really believe what you say then why do you charge so much for your books and healing retreats?? Why not use your clout to help set up a temple somewhere in America where people can have access to healing for free? There are plenty of shamanic herbs that grow right here (that the government doesn't even know about) without having to go all the way to Peru or Costa Rica. I guarantee you there are thousands of people who would love to volunteer their time (and money) to build a temple right here on our own soil and the collapse of the economy is the perfect catalyst to make it happen.
thanks
Here! here!
Daniel, thanks for pouring yourself into so many noble efforts. I see it. You've enriched the community by doing so. I myself would be less socially and spiritually conscious without your work. To be specific, I'd still be lost in new age sentimentality. :) If ever I find a way to return your gifts I will. As for the immersive retreats, for what it's worth, I have my eye on them and a goal to attend as soon as I can. Keep the invitations coming! When the time comes I'll gladly pay for the opportunity you, your staff, and the Kogi and Secoya are providing. I'll even pay the way for two! Perhaps we'll all get the chance to go eventually.

"The Occupy movement has erupted as a planetary outcry against economic and social injustice."
I see these events this way:
A planetary outcry against economic and social injustice has erupted as the Occupy movement.
What do recent events tell us. In Egypt the government surrendered, in the United Arab Emirates the opposition was crushed, in Libya the opposition has prevailed. The outcome is still unclear in Syria. (this is the one to watch) In the US in the 1960's and 70's the opposition failed to be reversed in large part, initially. Ideals that appealed to the masses did prevail however many ideas were repealed or diluted over time. The status quo will always attempt to "right" perceived wrongs against it in the something known as "backlash", sometimes outwardly, sometimes in stealth. An agenda that appeals to the masses is necessary if any progress is to be made that is sustainable. So where are these paradigms that will change the matrix? Without them Occupy Wall Street is little more then a rally of the disgruntled. It is a sign that people are mad as hell and will not take it anymore but then what? It is however a wave gaining momentum. There is a trump card in all this; the US's stance that it is wrong to use force against unarmed protesters. My guess is they are lying. The actual policy is this, "when it is in "our interest" force should not be used". Do not be fooled by there complacency they might be "flush you out" (a hunting term meaning to make game reveal itself.).

Walk softly and carefully they are very wily.
Commerce is the blood of the economy. To sustain an economy things and money must move. It takes very little to kill a man simply clog his arteries. Where does commerce flow?
The strength of the masses is the masses.
The weakness of the 1% will always be the 1%. The strength of the 99%, is the 99%. The buffalo nearly became extinct because they were killed one at a time. To over come the trickster (the coyote) use the Roadrunner. Peck the coyote to death. A death by a thousand cuts. Flash rally if the going gets tough.

Could a demand be for negative-interest currency?
Great piece, Daniel, but I wish I could hear your thoughts on instituting measures from Charles Eisenstein's "Sacred Economics" book, most specifically a negative-interest currency, in which a 'demurrage' charge is placed on money that is hoarded, which would encourage the unfettered flow of money to people and projects that the world needs but that would not necessarily result in profit. The need for loans to be paid back with positive interest creates an artificial scarcity that leads to a paradox of 20% unemployment at a time when there is more work to be done to heal ourselves and our planet than ever before, yet the work can't be done because there's no profit in it.
Do you think that negative-interest currency could be enacted before "the entire political, social, and economic system in which we exist" crumbles, or would it only be possible in the aftermath of the present paradigm? Such a bold initiative would certainly need the backing of whoever's running 'the matrix' at the time.
In any case, Sacred Economics is a wonderful book, and Charles has given his blessing to anyone who wants to obtain a copy without paying for it--a digital copy at any rate. I suggest it to all occupiers and occupation sympathizers. :-)
This is a beautiful time.
Love... you... guys.
Meditation Flash Mobs Going Global
I was on a conference call today with the founder of MedMob.org and signed up to organize Meditation Flash mobs in Seattle. Meditation is the ultimate tool for conscious evolution. Why else would it survive for so many thousands of years! It's very exciting times to feel the shift finally taking hold. It's like someone is finally letting the clutch engage. The challenge now is to keep the engine of consciousness revolving at the proper gear!
I was thinking just the same thing
My mind drifted back to another time and was reminded of some very poor examples of discontent. Namely the Symbionese Liberation Army (Patty Hearst), the Back Panthers and Charles Manson. These symbols did nothing to promote positive change in the world and did untold damage to progressive thinking of the 60's and 70's. I would be very wise to avoid such dark shadowy and beastly impulses and approaches. Nor am I fond of black coats, coats like those worn by Neo in the film the Matrix. These are dark symbols and can be found worn by the SS in Nazi Germany, the KGB in the Soviet Union and at "columbine". They are symbols of ruthless corruption and violence; the stuff of drug lords. Our causes are not vendettas. I assume all of us or at least most of us want positive transformation to a better world, well at least I do.
I have heard it said that we can not think (or perhaps not think) our way into right living we must act our way into right living by taking the next right action to the goal of a better life. Change requires some action, appropriate action. Change often requires a little push to get the ball rolling, unfortunately. One of those actions might be to simply show up at one of those rallies.
Thank You
Daniel,
There is no doubt that you have been a major force in bringing about positive change in these very difficult times and I thank you for all you have done. In no way was I trying to undermine your work--I believe it's very important to raise awareness of other cultures and integrate their healing practices into our own and I understand that it takes money in order to make that happen. What I'm trying to do is find a way to make that type of healing available to people who can't afford to spend $2,000 on a plane ticket. Slowly but surely the transition is happening but the drug scheduling laws in the US don't make it any easier. I want to build a safe place where individuals can go to learn about the shamanic plants that grow in their own back yards...all the medicine you'll ever need grows within 20 miles of where you were born!
While it is important to spread culture and ideas, flying around in jet planes is not exactly ecologically sound. At this point in time, it is still possible to travel long distances to receive healing, but eventually we will need to set up temples within our own country to preserve and pass down the knowledge that is being brought back from other places. When people realize they already have everything they need, they stop searching outside of themselves for answers and look within, which is the only solution to the global crisis we are facing. The only way to transcend the ego is to completely surrender and sacrifice your personal needs for the betterment of the whole, which seems like the main point of your article-- if we collectively reject not just the system that allows greed, but the feeling of greed within ourselves we will eradicate all unnecessary suffering. That is a challenge for all of us, and I know it won't happen overnight, but I am truly inspired by the uprisings around the world and by intelligent, thought-provoking discussions within collectives such as Evolver!
Blessings,
Meg
Awesome!!
Great article and beautifully said! I wanted to post here because myself and my team have been working on, as you put it, "the language to express the new world that supersedes the old one" for a couple years now and I invite you and anyone else interested to check it out, share it, use it, evolve it, etc. Everything One Community is is open source (convenient pun there) and it is beautiful to see the light of truth and the future we all know is possible shining brighter and brighter.
Much Love,
Jae
