I am currently involved with a new non-profit initiative to create a global spectacle and peace meditation on December 21, 2012. We have just "soft launched" our website, www.unifyearth.com - please take a look and tell me what you think. This is mainly designed to be a presentation tool for potential sponsors, artists, and collaborators. My dear friend Mark Heley has also created a website, www.peace2012.net , which is getting people to link up for the synchronized peace meditation on that date. There are other initiatives as well, some of them with a pure intention and others that are more questionable. Below is the text of an email I wrote to a group of people who are seeking to coordinate these events. Unfortunately, I see some groups approaching this as another "New Age" business opportunity, and also some figures eager to step into the role of guru of the moment, rather than really actualizing the potential for a collaborative network to emerge.

If you are interested in helping lauch our Unify Earth initiative, please email me off-line - daniel@evolver.net - and let me know what you feel inspired to contribute.

Hi Folks,

I would like to share some of my ever-evolving thoughts on the events marking the end of the Mayan Calendar and the beginning of the new cycle.

While everyone is obviously free to do whatever they want, it is my personal feeling that these initiatives should not be appropriated to serve anyone’s private interests, and that neither the end of the old cycle nor the beginning of the new belong to any one person’s particular vision. It seems to me that the proper thing to do, for those of us who want to be creative partners in constructing an event that could have planetary significance for humanity, is to see ourselves as facilitators who work together to build bridges between myriad cultural traditions, organizations, corporations, activists, and visionaries. We should be seeking to create a platform that many can share. The impetus should be one of generosity and cooperation, as those will need to be the hallmarks of the new planetary culture.

What I propose would be developing a coordinating council that brings in and defines a role for many visionaries, indigenous leaders, activists, artists, and cultural catalysts, for the December 21 – 22 events. Beyond that, we should develop a strategy and a tactical plan for what the movement is seeking to accomplish, on every level. The map that Barbara (Marx Hubbard) has created and that Stephen Dinan offers in his “Vision 2012” are helpful tools for this, and provide some excellent jumping off points for the larger discussion. Many other people and groups also hold crucial pieces that need to be incorporated. For example: William Irwin Thompson’s development of a new educational curriculum. The Transition Town initiative approach to building a grassroots community movement. The Social and Ecological Justice Movements. The movement to create instruments for exchanging value that are de-linked from the monolithic currency system controlled by private banking interests and manipulated by them for their own ends. Jose Arguelles’ “rainbow bridge” meditation to activate the noosphere. TM initiatives to use meditation to reduce crime rates. Efforts, such as Biochar, to remove excess carbon from the atmosphere. Bruce Lipton and Steve Bhaerman’s proposals in ‘Spontaeous Evolution.” Erwin Laszlo’s systems approach. The heart-based approach of Amma. Satyagraha. Ray Kurzweil and the Singularity movement. Ken Wilber’s Spiral Dynamics. As proposed in my 2012 book, a movement to change the calendar to mesh with astronomical cycles. Etcetera.

What would be great – and might be necessary - would be a series of “council gatherings,” online and off-line, where the various initiatives that have been proposed to transform human civilization and change the direction of human activity could be debated and analyzed openly. When Lincoln debated Douglas, the debates went on for eight hours! These days, public debate has been reduced to a charade. The indigenous model of “tribal councils,” where communities actually agree to stay together to resolve disputes, no matter how long it takes, need to be revived to confront the extreme complexity of today’s issues and to break the indoctrination trance of the media. The new tools for live, on-line teaching forums indicate the potential for rapid, transformative education to be disseminated to the global community.

If we truly want the Dec 21 – 22, 2012, event to function as a transformative threshold for global civilization, we should seek to develop, through a process of dialogue, tactical objectives along with tangible plans for enacting them. For instance, it is now obvious (if it wasn't before) that nuclear power needs to be eliminated, quickly phased out. Activists like Helen Caldicott and Ralph Nader stand for this – but there is obviously not enough momentum yet in the culture to deal with this issue despite the increasing potential for planetary cataclysm. A real transition from nuclear power is only going to be possible by inspiring a large-scale movement of civil society, and an awakening of consciousness. The same is true for GMOs, Wall Street corruption, military expansionism, etc. We need to change how corporations function on a systemic and fundamental level, restricting the rights they now possess to freely pollute the global environment and privatize parts of the commons. Etc.

This civil society movement also has to be realistic enough to promote sacrifices for the sake of the future – we can’t continue to promote the New Age clichés about infinite abundance on a planet that has reached peak everything. For instance, unless “free energy” becomes quickly available, we will have to radically reduce energy consumption in the First World, as coal, natural gas, oil, and nuclear are all contributing to a rapid deterioration of planetary conditions, and potential extinction for the human race, as James Lovelock discusses in his terrifying book, The Revenge of Gaia (he predicts 150 million people, maximum, will be left alive at the end of the 21st Century due to climate change). A “Marshall Plan” for transitioning to renewable energy is urgently needed – only a civil society movement of many millions can break through the corporate and political gridlock to launch this. If tangible sacrifices need to be made, these can be compensated by a new spiritual dimension to human existence, a deeper interconnectivity, and universal experience of love as a natural state of being.

I propose that we go beyond the current thinking about Unify Earth / Peace 2012 /Day One to see it as an instigation for a large-scale movement of civil society, to take back the future and change the direction of our civilization. The moment of unity could be seen as the creation of the first tone or note in a new octave. We have a year and a half, plus change, to develop a cohesive strategy for what we offer as a set of tangible solutions for retooling our planetary culture so that it becomes sustainable, humane, equitable, regenerative.

If we agree that our shared mission is to collaborate to create a scaffold so that a better world can tangibly emerge from the experience of global unity and from the spectacles and teachings that surround it, we should be focused on achieving a deeper level of collaboration and cooperation than we have known up to this point. The process of orchestrating these events should model the transmutation of consciousness and social practices we are seeking to bring about. This means honoring the visionaries and sacred activists from many cultures, traditions, and nations. It means bringing in leaders from every religious tradition, indigenous cultures, leading scientists and technology developers, business visionaries, political leaders, etc.

Personally I believe that creating a new social networking infrastructure designed to serve civil society is a necessary element in this transformation. We have seen the power of Facebook and Twitter to spark revolutions, but these products are not designed to facilitate large-scale and instantaneous collaboration for reinventing civil society and sharing resources equitably. There is currently an initiative underway between BALLE (Building Alliance for Local Living Economies), Coop America, Planetwork, Evolver, and other groups to develop the nonprofit infrastructure for this “network of networks.” I think it would make sense for the Dec 21 – 22, 2012, events to align with this initiative: the event could be the global debut of this system.

We are reaching the point where humanity will stand together and learn to thrive, or we will continue our drama of separation and quickly die out. My hope and prayer is that those of us who feel ourselves called to coordinate a planetary event for the end of the cycle and the beginning of the next can supersede the habits of the past to embody the new way of being that so many have spoken about and looked toward. Bringing this into manifestation will require great dedication, along with an inner attitude of humility and sacrifice.

Anyway, my 2 (or perhaps 3) cents on the matter!

Renewal

Thanks for all this Daniel. These initiatives for renewal are so important.

I really like this Daniel.

This is very clean, coherent and consistent thought. I'll be looking at the website myself and looking for ways to integrate the new organization's ideas into the circle of community I'm involved with in my area.

You may want to look at: startwhereyoulive.com

I'll let the owner of that site, Richard Flyer know about this initiative. He's doing great work in local communities.

Peace,
Steve

This so fits my thought that it's not so much that something monumental will come on the prophesied date, but that it gives us a catalyst to think together.

Something elemental that I think should be a part of this would equate to a Suggestion Box for how radical change might come about. I parked such a thing on my blog, where it’s been waiting for a way to get it energized, and I offer it as a seed for what could be done. Scroll down column left on http://TheConversation.org to OUTSIDE THE BOX IDEAS.

the layout is excellent, idea is solid, yet I still have one critique. Murphy's law might make the whole global inter connectivity concept merely a metaphysical one if the sun sneezes on us and telecommunications is in shambles. Other than that sign me up. Personally I think we should gather people of similar motivations in groups around the world at certain sites. For example, A group at the ancient Mayan ruins (I'm confident that will happen on its own though), group at the Hopi reservation, group at the Georgia guide stones, group at stone henge, group at Giza etc. Make this as organized as possible so if Murphy's law happens to rain on our parade we have an umbrella of love to shelter us from it and aid each other in what could be a difficult transition meant to test our integrity as the rightful owners of our future.

carry on Dan the man, great stuff!

p.s. I see you ignored my creative currency club invitation, oh well, to each his own.

"in order for there to be order... there must first be disorder"

hello

I know of one group going to Teotihuacan...
I think this will happen pretty naturally

we walk the thin edge of a knife...

but I'm Gaian from here on in baby. No kidding there needs to be a collaborative platform that people can actually relate to based not just on our planetary survival but our collective evolution as a species. How would you see the council being chosen? I'm having a hard time looking at your website - however I'm working with a computer with limitations and am not viewing in safari or firefox.

Gaia Religion

I don't think the unity of various patriarchal religions can happen successfully. Perhaps what is actually happening is the rise of a new religion, Gaia.

All of us thinking beings together create what I call the Gaia Messiah. The birth of the Gaia Messiah is our collective awakening!

www.lovolution.net

hey neutopia, imagine no religion...

I would think that in order to bring people from different cultures, religions, communities etc together, religion as such is going to have to be set aside. As much as I love the concept of a lovolution, it makes me uneasy to read of raising any kind of messiah. We are each and all of us creators - with the ability to heal and be healed if we can work together...

I will participate; what

I will participate; what will happen after the spectacle? I guess we will find out.

the design

A bit of a critique, hope it's helpful not disruptive:
The logo is beautiful, simple, evocative of a lot.
however I dont know about those fluffy clouds.....alittle pie-in-the-sky and obvious. I want to see more of the simple design work in the logo, it's just so beautiful.

also:
"Evolver promotes sexy sustainability, yoga glamour, and shaman chic."
I know we want to get people interested but don't we promote depth? Maybe a different line that is still sexy but less shallow seeming?

We need to make up stories

Sage, carnie, beggar
Come to the play!

There was a Roman soldier bored with war,
with whores, with bloody babies.
Hoping to escape, he wrote a history,
moved into
his Holy fantasy.
It's but a Shangri-La, a piper's dream.
Metal men, formed from clay,
scream upon fields of battle,
when nerves
catch up with senses.
Soothed with martial melodies,
gratefully serve.

Listen, oh little one.
The wind will catch you up as you sleep.
You won't remember when you wake, weeping,
how small, insignificant you are. Mommy assures,
you're her own little star. Demons alone explain
your terror. You determine
to do better. You soothe yourself with stories.
You spin a tale of love within a dance.
You spin yourself the center of romance,
a home, a fortress, an emptiness fulfilled.

Like a child counting fireflies,
alive in the darkened air,
dare to immerse with sparkling wonder,
to share
more beautiful stories.

Entheos Festival & Conference

If there's any way to integrate this into Entheos Festival and Conference let me know. I am on the conference organizing cell. This festival is a countdown to 2012 on the summer solstice of each year. Some discussion has been held amongst the organizers about doing a winter solstice event and if anyone in the Vancouver surrounding area would do something 2012 end date on a larger scale it would be this group.

Last year Mark Heley did a presentation for us which was well received.

Sobey,

Please email me a logo for Entheos, a 50 - 100 word description, and a link to the website. We will put it up as a supporting org.

Planetary Reproduction = Gaia Messiah

Gaia Messiah is a collective consciousness. It isn't like the patriarchal, false messiahs such as Jesus Christ whose religion didn’t have a leadership role for half of the species. True love is generated from the magnetism of the two halves of the species becoming one. This is true unity. Unless, the gender divide can be solved, and the war between the sexes ended, we will continue to live in a patriarchal world.

My feeling is that only when we discover this evolutionary/revolutionary type of leadership will we find the energy needed to build ecological cities on Earth and in Outer Space. Gaia Messiah is all about planetary reproduction.... two becoming one world philosophy!

www.lovolution.net

Gaia Religion = Ordered World

Now about your problem with the word "religion." It actually means linked back to the Source." Gaia (the source) will guide us to the way to organize the world so that there is social and economic justice for all. We will find the way to build, a networks of beautiful ecological cities in which the creative soul can be free!

Spirituality is part of Gaia religion, but religion is a word for the organizational component. It is the source of the Magnum Concilium (Great Council).

Elizabeth, you ask how the Magnum Concilium would be selected. During periods like these at births of religions, it seems like they are self-selected. It is a resonance towards the ideas that gives you the inner power to be part of this new global reformulation.

So, the question is: do you feel called to service Gaia? If so, how?

www.lovolution.net

Evolutionary Spirituality and Gaia Religion

Pondering the role of the evolutionary spirituality movement in global transformation, I realized its limitation. What do the leaders do about money? The evolutionary spirituality movement doesn't have an organization necessary for funds to be collected in order to build amazing structures. The money made through books, films, lectures, teleconferences on spirituality goes into private bank accounts of the luminary. It might go into a non-profit started by a luminary, but there hasn't been a luminary who has yet to build a sustainable city.

The goal of the Gaia Religion is to create ecological cities because the collective benefit of the global order is to serve people with their basic human needs and much, much more like being able to travel to distant galaxies. Gaia Religion is really a star religion…. Finding exoplanets, and if they are uninhabited starting colonies of peace there.

Queendom of Love on Earth

I’ve been thinking about the comment I made about Jesus Christ being a false messiah because of the lack of partnership with women his religion represents. Writers have tried to correct the sexism within the religion by rewriting the myth to include Mary Magdalene as the other half of the religious equation. Even with this change to a more balanced mythos, the problem with the Jesus story is that he didn’t show us how to create the Queedom of Love in Earth. The best he does is to tell us the Kingdom of God is within and we might have to wait until we die to get into the Gates of Heaven.

How about Now?

The map is already creating itself from the fantastic work people are doing, as seen especially clearly with Unify Earth. I think we should minimize the fancy packaging (tho I like it) and get real, right now. Then on Dec 21, 2012 we'd have much to celebrate and can continue from there. I feel the time is now to get our communities, food/gardens, water, systems for life up and running, and let them serve as models for the-more-to-come. This is a transition, perhaps largely one of spirit and mindset, and it won't be instantaneous as we build the bridges and scaffolds, but a year and a half provides lots of opportunity to get a move on. (And each passing day that my life, on the outside, looks virtually the same, I wonder if even I am not just talking, but doing it. I feel kinda stuck in the old systems, especially monetary, especially my mortgage! Plenty of inner transformation happening.)

renewable energy

We may need to power down, as it has been said, and slow down enough to realize that the only renewable power we need is the one that gets us up in the morning, and the one that causes photosynthesis. We can taper off fossil fuel and augment with others, but they all are highly unsustainable, industrial and enable a lifestyle that I for one can do without. I'm ready to spend my days in a garden, a forest, among people working and playing together on the earth. We, or I, am only talking about the end of civilization (ehem) as we have known it, and that means not being attached to the many ways we have defined ourselves and our lives – a most radical shift.
What are the beautiful aspects of life, of human beings that we want to carry into the future?

It would be interesting to

It would be interesting to have a societal infrastructure already in existence when the house of cards really comes down. Then transition time wont be so harsh, I assume saturn in scorpio will bring the worst of it.

Beautiful Notion & some thoughts...

Hello Daniel and ALL Evolvers...
I visited the Unify Earth site and found elements of it intriguing and others that can be tweaked a bit further. I'll begin with my humble thoughts on the tweaking side:

1. the feather logo reminded me right away of Robert Plant's logo in Led Zeppelin see: http://www.amazon.com/Zeppelin-Robert-Plant-Feather-Symbol/dp/B001TEODNG
perhaps instead of 1 feather (if the feather logo is important) perhaps consider 3 feathers fanned across the circle, 3 symbolizing mind, body & spirit
or develop a logo that would signify the idea of a unified earth???

2. The clouds in the sky background seems almost like an afterthought, if clouds are a must why not have fun with the clouds and allow each cloud to form various symbols that embody the energy (past/present & future) can be archetypes, sanskrit, multi dimensional zodiacs, crop circles, etc....?

3. A realtime chatroom can add more of an interactive flavor to the site

4. Meditation flash mobs have been launched the next one being on April 24th internationally, these mobs can be used perhaps to make people aware of this site and the concept at hand?

On a positive note, I like the side scroll design, the message is powerful (would help for it to be translated into various languages), the video section can be helpful with the addition of documentaries of what communities are doing on a local level, this site has a lot of promise Daniel...I will begin to promote on upcoming Evolver Yorkshire events once I am back in the UK. Namaste! Tico

some good ideas

thanks!

"Will the transformation."-Rilke

Over all the design is

Over all the design is compelling, has an interesting interface with the side scrolling, however the down scrolling was cumbersome. Maybe it's the size of my screen, but the down scroll was cut off on the Blog page, and I couldn't reach the bottom. I have a 4 year old laptop, so be sensitive to us Luddites and users who may be using older public computers. The clouds are distracting, so maybe smaller, more transparent, sometimes they made it hard to read text.

I like that 3 pages in the goals and parameters of the event are laid out in short simple points. I also like that the participant "what you can do" comes before the organizations involved. (I would like to know what will go on that page. Maybe the participant can check off what they are involved in or are interested in)
The imagine page could get to the point of the transmedia approach earlier, but I think that is the way to go. Get the ideas out into the world in as many channels on that day. There's going to be a lot of fear-mongering leading up to that day and it would be a stark counterpoint to say, this isn't the end, it's the beginning.

If Evolver is going to have a global "Woodstock" moment that would be the time to do it. People are unsure what the future is going to be. They've forgotten that economies are temporary, jobs are temporary, life styles have to be sustainable, and we are not separate from Earth, or each other. We need a vision. Think about the impact Star Trek had on the world, a cheaply made 2-season sci-fi show recruited more people to be scientists and astronauts than all the NASA films ever made. Show people how they can live in the future now with compelling characters.

Hope my $0.02 is useful.
