The Transcendental Object at the End of Time

I was always fascinated with this phrase from Terrence McKenna.
What can possibly be "The Transcendental Object at the End of Time"?

For me every advance, every change, has to do evolving consciousness. McKenna's timewave zero was measuring something and this something was the speed with which consciousness was reaching higher and higher levels. In the final stages of this process the acceleration of consciousness evolution can be felt every year, every month, and soon every day and hour, before we reach this "Transcendental Object at the End of Time". Our realization as conscious co-creators of our Universe.

In McKenna's words: "We are moving toward the most profound event a planetary ecology can encounter. We are about to witness the freeing of life from the chrysalis of matter. This is what our privilege and our destiny is; to be the final generation of people with one foot in the material realm of the battered primate and one foot on the ladder to godhead."
