If a local currency is going to support people -> essentials of life are good first step for design. Food is the most obvious example, but housing, clothes are also needed in some form. (probably others)
From there, an economy could diversify, bringing in welcomed services, ect.

that was revelation i had, dunno from there, would really like to be a part of one but I don't feel its possible in my situation to start one in my local area...definitely is though, just lacking motivation and such.
