David Cummins is a twenty-year veteran of the Los Angeles postproduction industry. He started his career at the early age of seventeen as a musician playing and producing rock and blues concerts in Southwest Florida. He then moved to Los Angeles and attended college to study physics, electronics and broadcast technology. He later broke into the business designing and building video facilities for A&M Records, MCA Records and various media organizations.
David used his skills as a musician to become an in-house music video editor and producer for MCA Records and worked with other labels as a creative artist. Five years later, he founded West Post Digital, a high definition facility in Santa Monica, CA.
David recently completed work the latest Danny Boyle (Dir. Slum Dog Millionaire) feature, “127 Hours”, shot in Utah. The feature was shot with five different camera formats, three of which were digital, using two DP’s and two camera crews shooting a total of seven days per week. Three of the camera formats were digital. Mr. Cummins worked with Danny and the whole Slum Dog camera team in co-designing the on-set workflow and a digital data lab custom built for this project.
David is also involved in the budding stereoscopic 3D industry, developing several 3D projects. He is currently producing “Strange Encounters 3D” a film about an alien visitor who encounters humanity for the first time through Burning Man.
David brings a passion for new technologies as they intersect the creative arts and has brought his enthusiasm to the Internet through his website, www.indieranch.com. He is now working closely with the Utah film communities including the Salt Lake Film Society. He recently helped organize and mentor the Utah Digital Directors Project, a series of workshops instructing filmmakers on the art of digital cinema technology.
David currently resides in Salt Lake City, Utah.
