I'm a closet podcaster, and I'm coming out.

Here is a great interview (imo) that I conducted with author, teacher, magician, priest of mercury, Sam Webster. He wrote a wonderful book recently trying to merge the magick of the tantras with the western esoteric tradition. Largely, how do we invoke Ra Hoor Khuit using the technology that various schools have perfected over the course of the last thousand+ years.

Here is the link. If any of you have any comments, I'd love to hear it. http://occultsentinel.com/?p=38

I know very little about thelema and I was wondering if you could help me understand something I am having trouble with. I have been very heavily influenced by eastern philosophy (taoism, hinduism, buddhism) I feel strongly about ahimsa (non-harming) as well as being humble and in service to the divine. When I read ch 3 of Liber Al I felt revolted by many of the statements that I read. It seems to be saying the exact opposite of what I have been taught......Any thoughts

Tunis Comment

Before I comment on chapter 3, I will comment on on the Tunis Comment. The Tunis comment says, "The study of this book is forbidden". Reading Liber AL vel Legis is therefore a Tantric exercise, forbidden in much the same way that, say, Tantric sex between monks and nuns is forbidden.

"Whosoever disregards this does so at his own risk and peril. These are most dire."
Although it may be a very quick route to enlightenment, it is also extremely dangerous.

"Those who discuss the contents of this Book are to be shunned by all, as centres of pestilence."
If you discuss this book, you are combining the power of this book with your own thoughts and delusions, potentially creating dangerous memes.

"All questions of the Law are to be decided only by appeal to my writings, each for himself."
Do not allow others to interpret this book for you. You should reflect on it yourself, or read Crowley's own commentaries if you are stumped.

"There is no law beyond Do what thou wilt."
The Dharma is inside each of us already. All our problems originate from a disconnect between our will and our thoughts, words, and actions.

Interesting Conversation

I've spent a few years in exploration of both Thelema and Tibetan Buddhist meditative traditions. It's interesting to hear Sam speak on the synthesis of these traditions through his practices. Thanks for creating this podcast and also for sharing :)

Chapter 3

I will now briefly describe my understanding of the first few versus of Chapter 3, as they effect the reading of the chapter as a whole.

"1. Abrahadabra; the reward of Ra Hoor Khut."
This chapter is a magickal reward from Ra Hoor Khut, Ra of the two horizons, a Dharma Protector, an Egyptian/English/Global inside-out variation of a Heruka.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heruka for explanation of Heruka.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra-Horakhty for the Egyptian god.
There are many interpretations of Ra-Hoor-Khut from a Western perspective, but I see it is a code for an inside-out Heruka. Heruka inside out becomes Rehaku = Ra Hoor Khut. From an Egyptian perspective it indicates Ra (sun god) of the two horizons, indicating an enlightened perspective on transiting diametrical opposites past the perspective of mortals. So you can expect this to be a protector of a type of inverse or inside-out Buddhism, where you see union of opposites and escape the conceptual mind by exploring the opposites of the conventional four noble truths and noble eightfold path.

"2. There is division hither homeward; there is a word not known. Spelling is defunct; all is not aught. Beware! Hold! Raise the spell of Ra-Hoor-Khuit!"
The main conflict to be discussed is the division within yourself arising from your own ignorance or unfamiliarity with certain concepts (a word not known). Spelling can mean "to discern or find, as if by reading or study". So discerning through study is defunct, as many people only gloss texts. Then we are told what to do about this. Beware! Be cautious with the information that follows. Hold! Apply the following information reservedly, hold onto what you already know, wait until you understand before acting. Raise the spell of Ra-Hoor-Khuit! Increase the influence and fascination of this Egyptian/English/global Dharma Protector in your own mind.

Loving it. Thanks for listening to the episode. I loved speaking to Sam... brilliant dude doing what in my opinion is very important pioneering work in the field of neo-paganism.

Doubtless we will see more impressive work from him in the years to come.

Thelema... tricky subject... I'm not well versed enough to type my opinions/thoughts, but suggest people check it out for themselves.
