Destroy All Digital Clocks

Back in my printed ‘zine days in the early 90s, I was reading in one little samizdat publication a little article titled something “Destroy All Digital Clocks.” The writer’s point was that looking at digital read-outs makes people stupid. See, the digital is for the stiff and left-brained, and nullifies the creativity of the right brain.

An amusing synchronicity

On a recent visit to my daughters in upstate New York,we watched “Gone With the Wind” on one of the cable TV stations. A main character in that great movie is Ashley Wilkes. At one point while we watched, that rogue Rhett Butler refers to him as “that stupid Ashley.” After that, whenever Mr.

Where The Hell Is The Time Going?

Yeah, I know, as we get older the time seems to be going by more rapidly than in the past. But, really, what the hell is going on now as Novelty increases and we hurl headlong into the Singularity. We See Things Differently

This chilling and powerful short story by Bruce Sterling was first published in 1989. I read it around '94 and re-read it on Sept. 12, 2001. In the story, Sterling pre-cogs the Crusader vs. Jihad world that we inhabit today, and presiently explains the Jihadist position from the main Muslim character's point of view. It's eerie.

The Abolition Of Work

Came across this essay again after all these years--From Bob Black

No one should ever work.

Work is the source of nearly all the misery in the world. Almost any evil you'd care to name comes from working or from living in a world designed for work. In order to stop suffering, we have to stop working.

The Energy Is All Around Us

Today at work I took a break from peering at my computer screen and looked out my office window. From the 38th floor of my building in New York City’s Financial District, I can gaze upon the glory of Manhattan, from downtown skyscrapers all the way to the fabled Empire State and Chrysler buildings of Midtown.
Today was different though.
A new perspective presented itself.
