Satellite Sync

While attending the generous two-for-one happy hour at Otto's Shrunken Head (14th St near Ave B) last evening, I got into a creative mood. Surrounded by the lushness of tiki decor, I took a square bar napkin and decided to draw an album cover of a record that never existed and never will. In the style of The Clash's "London Calling" (actually cribbed from Elvis Presley's first LP cover), I wrote in block letters "Luna City" down the left edge and put "Calling" along the bottom. I drew a crude moon with craters on the 'scape, with a Sputnik-like satellite orbiting. On the moon's horizon I put the band name (remember, one that doesn't exist and never will): Satellite Sync. Nell, the attentive and stylish bartender, usually has some kind of retro DVD playing on the vid-screen. This evening, she had old-timey black and white cartoons running. About halfway through the above faux album drawing, I looked up at the screen to see a bunch of funny animals landing a rocket ship on the MOON and their funny adventures there. I think that having the word "synch" involved in a little synchronicity like this makes it a bit more savory, no?
