What do you guys think of Cosmology as a religion? I find it wonderful. Its basically believing that the stars are a big influence in our lives and that everything around us is made out of stars. We all know we're made out of stardust but everyone has the modern theory that the world began with Adam and Eve. Some believe in the big bang; I believe in the big bang but I do not deny God's existence. Whatever made the universe is surely to be a deity. The universe could not just 'pop' out just like that. Nothing out of something. It is always something out of something. Thoughts?
I feel like this blog makes no sense but it was just a quick blog lol.
I need to add more to this. I discovered a few things connecting religion with the universe. Soon hopefully.

my 2 cents

Some thoughts from an amateur ...

"We are stardust, we are golden, we are billion year old carbon" CSN&Y were on the right track with that one!
We are definitely made of star-stuff, that's not new-agey at all, that's objectively true!

You said that //Whatever made the universe is surely to be a deity. The universe could not just 'pop' out just like that.// Well, what about the deity, did the deity just 'pop' out of somewhere? If you think yes, then it's just as likely the universe could, if you think no, then you have to explain the origin of the deity, and that's when infinite regress starts. I think that your simultaneously held ideas concerning the existence of a deity and your concerns about the universe popping out of nothing are mutually exclusive based on the counter-arguments to the cosmological argument (very few contemporary thinkers support the cosmological argument, for good reason). Even most creationists won't fall back on this because of the idea of infinite regress, it's very hard to argue around.

That all aside, I think it's sort of moot, because the concept of "nothing" doesn't exist to begin with. Even within a vacuum, there are quantum fluctuations.

In my opinion, It's very unlikely that the multi-verse has a beginning and end, nothing in nature is linear, everything is cyclical. As above, so below. Big news occurred recently in this arena, see my second link right under here, the empirical tests section.

If you want to look at cosmology from a religious perspective, I think the Hindus has it right.

I don't think it's worth even trying to understand what happened before the big bang though, we exist in space-time, pre big-bang there was no space-time, we don't have the proper fundamental references in my opinion.

Disclaimer: The above are my opinions and are not to be confused with what is true.

"I looked in the dirt
and found wisdom is learnt
through a costly process
of success and failure"

Thank you for your opinion.

Thank you for your opinion. But I would have answered no and regress myself even more. I was thinking then if the deity existed then who made this energy and then who made that, a continuous cycle. But then again time is not a straight line, more like a circle. Thank you for the links I will read them

All religions...

...are based on Cosmology. It is the only religion. :)

Religious Naturalism

Esoteric,

You may want to investigate religious naturalism? (website) (wikipedia)

Swimme

Brian Swimme has actually been teaching and writting about Cosmology, kinda like your putting it for a long time now. They have videos about it even that are very very cool.
He wrote a book called the universe story, as well as several other books including one of my favs called the universe is a green dragon.

Watch the videos they are really very good!

I think I am going to repost these again...

Thank you! I am watching it

Thank you! I am watching it right now.
I sure hope this helps! I mean I am questioning if the deity exists then how did it come to be? This question will never be answered or so I hope it can. Thanks again and I will be reading Brian's blogs.

if you exist how did you

if you exist how did you come to be? Nothing is seperate, we're all one!
You will really enjoy his work.
Cosmology is the story of the universe, its how a culture or a people come to understand their origins, who they are an what they are.
Swimme points out that it has only been really a short period of time where we could base our cosmologies off of knowledge of the universe instead of beleifs, but that our new knowledge of how the universe works can enrich and clarify the worlds cosmologies, by no longer relying on what we thought but what we know now.
the synergy is amazing....

You can find spiritual truth

You can find spiritual truth in a lot of places, most importantly from within yourself... your blog DOES make sense... but be careful with using the word religion, organized religion is an agent of FEAR (darkness).. true spirituality does not require a religion to operate inside you, its always there.. if you want REAL answers, just ask yourSELF :)

you should check out the work of Nassim Haramein, and the www.theresonanceproject.org

love and light

HEY

Glad you are still hanging out and questioning things. Be well
