Please see below for a video I put together on the Barriere Lake Algonquin Nation standing up against the Canadian government who has abolished their traditional customary governance and imposed band council elections under the Indian Act.

This is the third (and most severe) interference in their customary governance in the past 15 years, following the signing of a 1991 agreement that would have seen the sustainable management of the environment in the Algonquins traditional territory, but which both the federal and provincial governments have not followed through on.

I've been active in support/solidarity of their efforts for the past two plus years, as part of the Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Movement Ottawa (IPSMO). You can find out more about the issues at http://ipsmo.org and also http://barrierelakesolidarity.org

The video combines footage and photos from a demo at parliament this past Monday, as well as clips from a press conference held in the parliament buildings. It's also got a great soundtrack :)

In solidarity,
