Build a lightproof geodesic plydome. Rest deeply inside for 14 days to enable autonomic healing from civilized psychosis.

Why?

t h e d a r k n e s s c o n j e c t u r e:
1. Civilized people suffer inordinately from meaninglessness, confusion, self-hatred, disease, sociopathy, and ecocide.
2. These conditions result from an impaired consciousness, one traumatized into a round-the-clock fixation on gross reality and a denial of subtle reality (the dreamworld).
3. This pathological fixation is a defensive posture against further gross injuries which civilization routinely inflicts on its members.
4. Consciousness, as a biological faculty, will heal from these injuries given the proper conditions, primarily, sufficient rest.
5. Sustained total darkness leads to radically altered brain chemistry, inducing deep rest long enough to enable consciousness to permanently heal.

(the above is new. premises i've held all along are in a blog post, "three premises of a Solution".)

NOTE: if you see any way this could become 1) more accessible to yourself or others, i would really appreciate the feedback. this is just my attempt to reach out. I don't know if i'm succeeding or 2) useful to you personally, please let me know. thanks.

STATUS
A sympathetic group in Kansas City surrounds the project. I estimate it will cost $478 to build the "Self-Strutting Geodesic Plydome" (an entire sphere, actually! see "SPHERE BID" below for cost breakdown). The group here will contribute some of this, as well as provide some help to some degree with fabrication and assembly of the building. We have a noisy place for the sphere. A quieter one is needed. Once it is built and outfitted, I will go inside for two weeks and rest to see if the conjecture is true. If so, then the work will expand.

Due to my sense that I should be accountable to specific people who give a damn about me, I have largely avoided food stamps and other entitlement programs. I found people to help me and to help in turn. It has always been my intention: to solve, not just my problem, but The Problem at its root, once and for all. After 22 years of largely solitary struggle (phase 1 of the project) I am moved to finally ask for help in this way.

SPHERE BID
Here’s my quick bid for the direct costs of building the sphere.

sphere body and awning:
1/4″ BCX plywood, 15 sheets @ 18.50 = 277.50
130 machine screws, nuts, fender washers, = 5.00
linseed oil, 1 gal = 20.00
turpentine = 15.00

stand:
2×4x8′, 8 boards @ 2.50 = 20.00
metal stakes, 5 @ 2.00 = 10.00

floor:
1/2″ CDX plywood, 3 sheets @ 13 = 39.00
2×4x10′, 8 boards @ 3 = 24.00
deck screws = 5.00

door:
1/2″ CDX plywood, 1 sheet @ 13 = 13.00
2×4x8′, 1 board @2.50 = 2.50
deck screws = 2.00

tools:
circular plywood blade = 10.00
bits = 15.00
misc tools & supplies = 20.00

total: $478.00
time to completion: 3 weeks

other necessary components:
humanure composting toilet $0
ventilation system $30
food cooler $0
water dispenser $5
bed $50
inversion swing $10
chin-up bar $0

total: $95
time to completion: 3 weeks

Totals: $543, 6 weeks

REQUEST
If you feel moved to contribute in any way to the purchase of materials, the fabrication, assembly, outfitting of the sphere, please see the contact/comment page. Once I've been through the process successfully, then I will help others do the same.

PREMISES
(I just put these in my blog under, "three premises of a Solution")

Comments

wow

what a concept. how does this apply with say, a less pricey setup, that is for shorter jaunts into the darkesphere?
i mean, ANY isolation tank, even say, a tent, if applied ritually has benefits. not like this TOTAL WASH of the psyche youre proposing but perhaps even as an experiemental stage before committing to building one of my own.

how long did you prepare for this, in terms of getting used to longer and longer periods working up to doing a full two weeks in that kind of total isolation?

and i thought i was gonna lay in the sun on the beach tomoro.... maybe ill just lay in the dark all day. ocean sounds and darkness.
