Road to Essence

New Age spirituality and Metaphysics are both wonderfully rich and helpful, yet many in the community at large are missing a fundamental element at the point of development they have evolved into thus far. There is a break between the common wisdom that we create our realities and can therefore manifest anything or experience we wish to have, and the old wisdom that we must surrender control over our world to the Divine within, our Higher Selves. Both are true and must work together. Manifesting is not a matter of creating cars, money, homes, security, etc… Manifesting, in its purest form, is a matter of going ever deeper within to discover the many layers that rest between the ego and the Essence that has space for a functional ‘self’. The Essence is always within, and once it is tapped, the ripe time to create begins. All creation outside of Essence is hollow and unfulfilling.
It is important to notice one’s thoughts, desires, and patterns, but energy is misspent here when this level is the focus of one’s spiritual practice. Instead, we must first make peace in the battleground for control within ourselves. This venerable battle is meant to encourage us to decide, mindfully, which part of our makeup will move us through life; our ego, or our Essence. When we are propelled by our ego, our creations will always be fear based for the ego is the origin of fear. The ego tells us we need security, money, things, situations, people, patterns, and ideas that, in turn, keep us imprisoned in our own lives. The result is misery and we blame our loved ones and circumstances that we once so desperately worked to create in our process of manifesting.
Before we can build a creative workshop, we must lay a foundation. We must decide if we will build our lives on sand or solid Earth. The sand of our ego is the stuff disappointment is made of in our spiritual development. The Earth, however, is the option that gives our Essence, our soul, the ability to manifest without having to fight any tide in the process of creating. This sensory experience lends itself well to grounding details and steps that can be measured in happiness, fulfillment, and deep satisfaction of the Spirit within us. Building our lives on the solid Earth of our Essence is the process of looking within and separating the meat form the bones of our inner workings. In this process we must look at the difference between the wants we feel from our ego and the passion we feel from our Essence. Both offer a form of desire that motivates our creative process, but the power of the intention in the passion of the soul elicits more profound manifestations than the wants born from the fear of loss that the ego generates.
We will “lose” many things in life. Our circumstances will change. Friends and family will die. We will die. Our organic vessels will rot over our Spirit eventually. These are the truths about the laws that govern this realm of existence, therefore, choosing the creativity of the ego is choosing a form of manifestation that guarantees upset, disappointment, and anguish. The ego struggles to fight the tide of life, that is the way of ego. It is hollow, frustrated and aims to create and control parameters for every aspect of our being. Its very nature is to form a pen around the experiences we may have in our lives. When we dig into our Selves and meet our Essence, give ourselves over to it, surrender our struggle with it, we can access the Divine magic we are born with. With our Essence as our magnet of attraction, we can give our ego a job, a role, a title that is productive in the process of living from passion while always remaining mindful of its pulls and sways. We can wear our ego like a skin or an outfit, a uniform of sorts and can expedite the many tasks involved with creating from the passion of our Essence.
A basic source of frustration in the creative process driven by the ego is that we flip this process around. When our ego is the creator of our manifestations, we try to enslave our Essence and make it the “do-er” of our tasks that must be executed. We ask our Essence to connect with the Divine on matters of want, to pray for our creations to come to fruition. We give our Essence the job of talking to the people who will be involved in our creative process. We tell our Essence that it must travel outside of us to affect circumstances around us. We assign our Essence to read energies and gauge circumstances so that we can get homes, jobs, mates, deals, and the like. Our egos leach our very souls until we come to a crisis, a breaking point, at which we are forced to look at the bottom of ourselves. We drain ourselves of the energies we have to live our passions until we find ourselves on respirators.
From the surface, this appears to be a reaction to a set of fears based in survival. Another way of saying this is on one level of truth, we are afraid we will not survive. This level is rich with questions we are invited to answer in order to move deeper into ourselves, to tap into our Essential truths. Among these questions are, “why do I not trust the Universe to provide for me?”, and “why do I fear death, even though it is inevitable?” . In exploring these and other similar questions, we are also beckoned to consider how we might be of service to our neighbor, our fellow human friend, for any person who has the means to afford the time to ponder such questions therefore also has the responsibility of testing answers. The key is to always continue to try. When deeply considered, these questions reveal a deeper set of fears all together; fears of humiliation, the truest fears of the ego.
Anything can happen when we become devoted to being of Divine service in our lives. The creativity of ego is designed to keep us distracted from the essence of our soul. The very drive to manifest the desires of the ego is, in itself, a savvy mode of ego control designed to keep us occupied with the busy work of managing our set parameters of life experience. The impulse to resist or control ego is, in its own right, yet another tactic of the ego. Because the ego is so inclined to distract jus from our true purpose, it is vital that we make the intention of a spiritual practice to be a journey of fortification of the soul. Our current collective Essential spiritual purpose is to learn to recognize and notice the difference between our true selves and our ego, and to re-learn to function accordingly. This seems to be the live wire of alternative spiritual and consciousness communities across the board, so I close with simply an offering that your deepest, truest, Higher Self can ponder, and, hopefully become empowered by.
So much love, friends, and take good care of your spirit!

Self Questions Self
That's what ego is Self questions Self, questions Self..... It's an endless cycle that only leads to duality and narcissism. When we learn to trust ourselves, and no longer question, that's when we have learned to defeat the ego and follow our essence. This was a good blog, I love you baby.
So true
I enjoyed this blog very much and I think is has an important message. Since the release of The Secret, the idea of the law of attraction is becoming more and more mainstream. The unfortunate thing is that far too much emphasis is being put on manifesting things that are shallow desires of the ego.
With great power comes great responsibility.
Delibarate creation is not something to be taken lightly.
I have been experimenting with manifesting reality for a couple of years now and I have brought myself some less than desirable situations by listening to my ego and wanting things that I thought would bring me happiness. I got the things that I wanted, but was happy only momentarily, and for a few reasons. First, the things I wanted weren't always as satistfying as I hoped they would be. Next, some of the things I got also came with negative reactions or outcomes. And lastly, the ego is insatiable.
I have found that I get much more pleasing results if I listen to my soul and focus my desires on things like cooperation, happiness and peace.
It takes patience and trust in the universe, but it is totally worth it.
silence is the sound of the angels
I'm currently struggling with discerning from ego and true self... it's easy to get confused since the border is nebulous... I do feel a progress though!!!
I agree with smmmmile (hehehe good nickname) ever since the secret, people think that by putting up a picture of a brand new Porsche in ur fridge and looking at it really hard and living life like you already have it it'll come... well I hate that I mean is like when ur a little kid a pray to God for a brand new toy... one thing is innocence (which I think I've manage to conserve) and another immaturity...
With great power comes great responsibility (well said)
Great post and lovely picture... is that your daughter?
Peace

Essence
Essence, scent memory
cinnamon, pine, family
wafting incense
fragrant air
redolent of antiquity's winds.
Trailing magick's mountain meadow
Hard, sharp, cragged, creviced
Exquisitely strong, enduring, scarred,
mending, calloused, engaging
Fingertips, skin, caress manifest existence.
Rippling bells, liquid voices drip
replenishing wine. Listen.
Reverberate back to the tribal pool.
Dancing drum beats, symphonic raining rivers.
Rise and quaff the choir's song.
In ritual visualize the distant dawn.
Hearths to unseen worlds fade before Sol's majesty.
Incandescent homunculus eyes opening to flame,
krinkling sparks, glowing.
Powerful torches burn through dark imagery.
Revel in flavor, mythic piquancy.
Peppery heat, sour sorrows, exotic ebullient stew.
Wisps of buttery dreams, savory bliss,
divine delicacies,
bittersweet ecstasy.
peace, love, fulfillment

I am no expert on finding one's true voice, but I personally believe that the soul longs for concepts, such as love or harmony and trusts the universe to fill in the details. While the ego is busy wanting lots of specific things.
I think I disagree with you slightly about the issue of the porche. I
personally believe that the universe says yes to all of our requests. As I see it, the problem is that something like a porche is a complicated request and most people will get impatient, give up and stop the vibration needed to manifest it before it happens. But, more importantly, it isn't going to come for free. What are you going to have to sacrifice to get it? Time with your wife and/ or children? The contents of your savings account?
The universe doesn't just hand out things, it creates series of events that result in opportunities to get the things we desire. Sometimes the events required are simple and manifest easily, and sometimes they are complex and take time.
Are you asking about my profile picture? That is me. Do I look that young? Lol. It was taken less than a year ago.
wonderful blog!
It reminds me of much of what i learned through my own soul-searching of a few years ago; a journey that continues today but i feel better equipped to traverse.
I too instantly thought of The Secret and agree with the analyses people have put forth about it. There are many inversions of this same 'truth' on manifesting. It seems to me that, through what I have personally learnt and observed anyway, there is a balance to be found in the tensions between ego, true soul essence and the body and that this often resides in an unconscious corner, a liminal space, that we do have access to, but that cannot provide answers in the tangible and material way with which we are familiar. It speaks a different, deeper language that we are so often alienated from these days. As a result we confuse the desires of our bodies with the desires of our conscious mind and remain oblivious to our unconscious mechanisms. And these self-help gurus, these arbiters of the 'one truth', that which has hitherto remained hidden from normal folk, prey upon this desire for instant - and ever more instant - gratification that we have been conditioned to hope for.
My uncle is a big fan of these things. I spent the christmas period with him this year. We always talk of the latest thing he's into using, albeit very often in a kind of covert and round about way. Without a wish to be condescending, his spiritual journey remains sediemented in the material realm of ego satisfaction still (though he seeks to journey outward) and so from the way he talks of things, looks at things, it is often easy to spot where his mind is at on these subjects. This time he spoke of wealth and prosperity as an infinite pie, and everyone had the ability to have as large or as small a piece of it as they wished, but it was up to them. A comforting message of illusory free-market capitalism in a world of diminishing physical resources and languisihing ideological ones. With the best will in his heart i'm sure, he also told me to forget about the environment, forget about the worlds problems and to focus on myself. Not totally redundant advice and it didn't betray all that he meant to express by saying so, yet it remained a somewhat two-dimensional perspective on how to achieve, progress, manifest. My point is one of agreement i suppose. We do change without from within, but the depth of dialogue with that divinity must avoid these trappings, must remain unfettered by the wont of our ego, or else we are to achieve little.
Quest on Jester! Peace, love and utopia
Thanks!
I resonate greatly with all you added there! I cannot help but continue to 'bother'! lol! However, as i have gone on, I have become weary of it; of the needless expulsion of energy on trying to open peoples minds, who refuse to even let the smallest crack of light in by themselves. But, I feel constantly in a state of flux, constantly evolving my ideas, patterns of behaviour and ability to express, commune and resonate with those around me, even if it does mean kinda biting my tongue sometimes. Some people, many of whom are in my family and therefore know my perspective even if they do not understand it, are just unwilling to change. Undoubtedly because probing deeper within is uncomfortable and unfamiliar to us these days. But I am always there to help and expand with them when the opportunities arise. I guess thats all you can do sometimes, spiralling ever out into greater outer space through the inward personal journey of spiritual.
When the system evolves into something new, when it awakens from its cocoon and flaps the moisture off of its new form in the first pain of birth, we'll be there to soothe the weary and support the weak so that we are greater together.
Somewhat of an aside on inner alchemy, these lyrics from a Tool song came to mind when reading parts of your reply:
Give away the stone.
Let the oceans take and transmutate this cold and fated anchor.
Give away the stone.
Let the waters kiss and transmutate these leaden grudges into gold.
Let go.
Thank you too for your inspiration. Where would we be without that?!
:-)
