Which Master Do You Serve?

Life is an incredibly balanced ballet of ego and spirit. Our spirit is the substance of complete unity with all of life that is, and our ego is the instrument for separateness and division. What an extravagant tension is created within us here on Earth school; this need to be one with all and this drive to perforate our existence from the others. This transformative tension paradoxically drives us to connect and, simultaneously, separate.

We must understand that ego is neither right nor wrong, good nor bad; rather, it is our software program for functioning on the human plane. We can regard our ego-mind as a survival mechanism that has been perfectly evolving over millions of years. Transcendence of this highly refined mechanism, therefore, can be very challenging because its purpose is to keep us safe, sane and secure. It acts to DEFEND us from perceived harm.

The motivation for transcendence emerges when we realize that this defense mechanism is highly sensitive and highly convincing. Consciousness is about consciously choosing how we will interact with our reality interface; defensively or harmoniously. The ego is like a high-paid defense attorney acting on our behalf to provide any and all evidence we may need to keep our psyche (computer) certain that all of our actions are justified. This ego mind will do anything to keep us from experiences it thinks will harm us. It tells us rational lies (rationalizations) that we buy into in order to feel safe.

That is why so many spiritual teachers stress the concept of truth and tools to discern it, because our ego mind has evolved into the best liar around when it feels it needs to for or survival. The problem is that ego is so sensitive that, when it is in charge for more of our daily lives than our spirit, everything is perceived as a threat. All manner of universal connectivity are viewed as problematic and threatening because its main function is to serve as an instrument for separateness.

In this human experience we have identities. These identities are roles we play in life that we identify with, such as teacher, mother, husband, broker, healer, astrologer, writer, etc... These roles help us to function on the human plane but they are not what we actually are. When we identify with these roles we become like the actor who has gotten caught up in his character and has trouble coming out of it once he gets off the stage. We are no more the roles we play than the actor is the character he plays.

We are spirits having human experiences. When we identify ourselves by our roles we block our inherent creative powers. These creative powers are what we call magic, manifestation, innate creativity and even miracle. These are the powers of the Universe that many of us spend a great deal of time trying to understand and unlock. We lose access to these divine powers because we identify ourselves by our roles, the human actors, rather than the divine producers of our lives.

When we identify ourselves by these roles our ego is our master. When we transcend the desire to identify with these roles, our spirit is our master and our ego can then be 'employed' to serve our greatest good.

It's a start ego... to end it

The feeling I always follow is my heart ego connected to my mind ego connected to me gut ego.

And if the gut says yes or no... I go with it.

I use my voice ego and substance ego and consciuos ego...

Until I have no ego at all again.

It just seems to relieve all involved in the end.

attention

the name of the game is self-awareness. To notice one's motivations and actions is to notice the distinction and, paradoxically (at some point), unification of all that we are.

..leggo my ego

Ego is a loaded word for me... I think in terms of what you are describing Virginia it's more like the sense of self that gets in the way... especially with human roles. Are ego and self the same? Not sure about that yet.

Also it may be a left and right brain'd thing because it's the left brain that categorizes us... in it's naming, and especially categorizing function it comes closer to what you describe as an instrument for separation, no?

One thing for sure, the ego loves defense mechanisms. It's a constant battle to break down the walls that are going up. I tend to feel more of those magical powers when I give up the drivers seat, which is what I love doing. But it can lead you down weird paths sometimes.

Cheers,

Meade

I meant what I said and I said what I meant

Ego is only a word, you can replace it with whatever word you like. The important message, the one that may speak to the right brain's conceptualization function (if you prefer), is that self-examination and awareness are the keys to dissolving the behaviors that come from ideas/beliefs that come from thoughts that are created by this part of ourselves that believes it needs to remove us from the 'other' in order to survive.

Word yo.

Seriously well put sister Virginia.

Thanks!

For taking the time to read and ponder =)

"And so it was revealed to

"And so it was revealed to me, that god is not a male person at all, verily she is not even a grownup. The goddess of goddesses is a little girl, so small indeed, she does not grow a single hair between her holy and virginal legs..."

I am not into bondage games, so no master for me, thank you!

hahahahahahaha

words on the internet... they can be so misleading, so direct, so poignant and so irrelevant. Take what you will.
