Evolver Dating?

Instead of asking for handouts to keep the site going, why doesn't Evolver/RS provide a service that would bring ad revenue and more traffic to the site. A dating site. Hear me out on this one. Even a free dating site like plenty of fish pulls in a lot of ad revenue. And it is more popular than much fancier pay sites (Alexa rating 106 in the US and 341 worldwide). Evolver could fill a niche in the dating site market that has not been looked at. It could serve as the counter-culture dating site for anyone who would rather smoke pot and discuss change than drink beer and watch football or American Idol. A dating site could get added onto the existing framework. It would draw more people to this site.

I know the argument. Yes, 5 bucks is not a lot, even in these tough times, but frankly I don't even think this site is worth that much. I don't pay to read anything else online and I don't pay to use facebook. Why would I pay for this site? If RS/Evolver can't get itself together as a business it should not pretend to be a movement in order to raise money. Movements have clear goals, not just vague notions of change. The majority of the blogs on here are really flakey. The quality of the articles on Reality Sandwich have gone downhill since it started. If you can't give people something they are willing to pay for than you need a new approach.

Dating site

I totally agree with you about the Dating Site! However, I do not agree about the membership. I used be in your camp. However, reading the agruements presented here, I now totally support the membership and I am proud to say I have joined the social movement. The bottomline is that RS/Evolver has their backs up against the wall, financially speaking. I feel it is my oblication to support them, because them is US. And if we want to not only remain to be connected, but deepen the connection with one another, we need to step up and put our money where our hearts live.

Now, that's why I also think a Dating Site would be a terrific idea. I think it a great way to not only fascilitate romanic connections and pull in some much needed revenue, but also to promote RS/Evolver. I do believe, however, if RS/Evolver launch such a site, that there would have to be very clear guidelines congruent with the values we, as a community, hold dear.

I could see this as a

I could see this as a potential side project if it were kept separate from Evolver. . .and if it were done in a way that would be profitable and also benefit culture through The Way the site itself was set up.

There may be better things to first invest our money and time in?

My concern about it 'being separate' comes from my feelings that humans are not that skilled at communicating on the internet and even worse when it comes to the behavior allowed by the social norms of a dating site. I would hate to see that trickle into our worldwide/local communities and hurt our growth and cohesiveness.

For the E+SM what I see benefiting us the most is the time we spend communicating locally in spores and their offspring spores and what ever mushrooms fruit in the social dating area will happen naturally.

-"If I approach the desirable female with the correct offering, if her mood is correct, if my gifts are found pleasing, then something wonderful will follow from all of this." -TKM-

Things like "The Time For Change" movie tour and the number of showings increasing if picked up by independent theaters (and even major chains) will be a good attractor and filter for our growth in population and funds.

Long we have wondered where and when our next surge of culture would spring forth from. This is the where. . . and those that can should consider donating at one of the suggested levels. And some of us, after some thought should consider donating even more.

I expect evolvers will soon realize the importance of this movement within this last chance moment and appreciate the rare potential we have Here to truly change things.

I think it would have to be

I think it would have to be a side project kept separate. It might get confusing for this web site to become mingled with a dating web site. The fact that the Evolver Social Movement is a now a corporation makes it confusing enough. I'm familiar with Daniel Pinchbeck's work and I've been involved in organizations before, so I think I basically understand the point of this whole thing. But for people who don't see the point, turning this into a revolutionary/dating web site would do much to clarify things, I don't think. And it could end up inhibiting what we're trying to do here. But I'm not completely against any idea, if implemented the right way.

it could be presented as a separate branch off site

i think its a great idea though!

I agree it should be

I agree it should be separate. I should have made that more clear when I said it would be added on.
