ALL I WANTED AS A CHILD WAS TO BE LIKE JESUS!

I grew up in a fairly strict Catholic household, where I was forced to go to church every Sunday and I can remember ever since a young child all I really wanted to do when I grew up was be like Jesus. I wanted to go around and spread peace and love to all, especially those that needed it the most. Live as a minimalist and share that which I had with others. You would think that's what Catholic parents would want from their child, right? To be like Jesus?
Nope. Instead I was told that the real world wasn't like that and that I had to work hard hard hard to survive and be successful. I was told that I had to compete with others and make money. I was told to forget that lifestyle because it simply would not work. What a bummer! I was a young boy being told by his parents not to strive to be like their own role model. What a joke!
Well I never forgot that dream and I will never forget it. It is quite a different world now than when Jesus walked the Earth but I'm not going to give up on my dream. I do have some college loans to start paying off soon but I'm going to work and save money and one day my dream will become a reality. A reality where those that choose to travel and spread unconditional love can and will and instead of it being scoffed at, it will be embraced!!!!

I can understand how you feel
I always found it easier to just be kind to people and not go into too many details with other people. If I hand out food to homeless people and I tell friends that it seemed like the decent thing to do, they usually agree. If you bring anything remotely philosophical or mention wanting to make people happier or spreading a bit of joy - people start looking at you with a kind of suspicion that can be unnerving.
The same act, can be interpreted differently depending on the words you use to communicate it to other people. Now that just blows my mind,
Well these days
any little thing one can do for others or the the world is greatly needed... I say screw the people that don't understand... for now. They'll come around soon... Perhaps when the world-situation is more dire and the need for our actions and philosophical reasonings behind them are more understandable, we can all agree that spreading love is the only reasonable action worth taking...
Thanks for the post... Our feelings exactly.
Great post!
Great post! I agree and joke seriously with my parents that I soaked up all that Catholic Sunday School and took it to heart to the horror of them (my family), the church and society.
There was a great post in Reality Sandwich back a spell by Christopher Becker My Reconciliation with Christianity at http://www.realitysandwich.com/my_reconciliation_christianity
I made a detailed comment on it at my blog here on evolver and at a blog I keep here http://mundocatolicos.wordpress.com/2009/11/03/my-reconciliation-with-ch...
I suggested to Christopher that it may be worthwhile to open up a group here on evolver for like minded folks . . . looks like there are more and more of us!
it's a sad sad world we live
it's a sad sad world we live in when the people preaching peace and love are the ones telling us that to live that life is unrealistic. all major religions speak the one common truth; peace and love toward your fellow man. but these are the people that force division by arguing semantics. this society has made it almost impossible to live a truly spiritual life in a system built on materialism and greed. going to church does not make you christian but all of these robots seem to think that's enough. to be truly christian is to act christ-like and live a life of love and generosity. my hat is off to you for chasing the dream...
