Hush up! You’ll scare the children
We must work from looks alone
Do not speak the evil we stalk
Or it has already won
Leave the children to their slumber
May it paint the world’s dream
We must whisper very softly
And work swiftly to remain unseen
If they wake then the fragile paradise
They are scheming in their heads
Will shatter as their eyes open
To a world that is already dead
I see it in your eyes
You want to scream out loud with rage
How did we inherit this murdered world?
Killed in the name of progress- left in this shallow grave
I too find myself dwelling
On the vision I can’t escape
Of us digging through the graveyard
As if it could mend the mental rape
Of centuries of human culture
Going back further than the mind can comprehend
There was a time when the spirit
Could still be viewed by the eyes of men
Now we use her though she says NO
If we could only hear her voice
Those of us who do are responsible
We must make the choice
To quietly create a future
For those lost in yesterday
From the dreams of sleeping children
As we watch them frolic and play
Through tapestries of reality
These soul artists will weave
We must not show them the sadness
Must provide them spirit wind to breathe
So, Hush up! You’ll scare the children
We must be diligent and sly
If they catch us breaking certain pieces
They’re gonna ask us why
You know they won’t understand
They are only trying to do what’s right
So hurry, let’s make a tunnel, HERE
And replace the blockage with our light
Let’s not wake the poets and dream dancers
Leave the artists to their work
The world they are creating, after all
Is the one to which we are trying to give birth
So let us keep our voices low and steady
Like that ever beating drum
So when the moment finally happens
We can replace this dead world with their living one
