I write this entry because I am asking the community at large to help me figure this one out. How do we take these ideas, projects, ideals, and introduce them to people who have never heard of such mind-bending concepts? I currently am running a counter-culture 'scene' here in Mid-Michigan, which for a while was simply the hippest people in town gathering to drink, dance, and hang out all night while discussing intellectual topics. Recently, we had a variety show, where the community at large was able to share talents and create something together. It felt like an evolution within the scene itself, and has given me hope that our parties can become a little bit more...enlightened?

My recent path has taken me to RS and evolver, because this is my kind of collective social web of thought...Shamanism, ascension, the Mayan cycles, enlightenment, and sustainable society, to name a few concepts. These are all things I have a great passion for, and I know there are at least a few folks who attend these parties that might take to this way of thinking/being as well.

Basically, has anyone had any experience in bridging that gap? A part of me is afraid to step out of the intellectual "new age" closet, for fear of being castigated as some weirdo hippie with a screw loose. I want these ideas to be taken seriously, or at least as seriously as one is capable of taking them. I believe the party scene that has surrounded me contains a lot of potential Evolvers....just how I bring this out is the mystery I'm still working with.

umm..

I don't know anybody personally who would be intersested in the things this site has to offer, that being said, I think in order to come out of "the new age closet" as you put it requires you to be ready for opposition. You have to be able to take a little fire in order to say what you want to say. Just get your point across logically and don't resort to school yard tactics. Not everyone is going to agree with you, this world is just too diverse for that, but if you have some friends who you think are already on the same level, so to speak, then you shouldn't have any problem introducing your ideas to them. At least thats what I think.

thanks, you're right

if they are ready to hear it, then they will hear it clearly. if not, that's cool. i think i've found a cool video by tim leary to project at a party some time, perhaps subtly influencing the shift within people i know.

us and them.

am i right?

Expect a small percentage...

A few additional people might become passively intrigued by a good show-- If a good show is put on. I recommend against materially tangible predictions with specific dates like '2012'-- Seers and innovators are typically denigrated in their region. Many 'greats' died in the 'ditch'. Allegory is much more effective at consciousness raising. Evolving is more hoped for in observation rather than as a structured pastime. Having some additional link to practical methods keeps the mind from wandering too far adrift. Indeed, hard times will inject hard calls for effective living solutions.

Great Question

I know that for the events that my partner and I do, we've had a certain amount of success with the people in our lives basing all of our events and conversations on the concept/reality of our inherent unity with one another.

Service to one another is nothing that anyone can realistically deny is a good idea, whether the conversation is being held with fundamental christians or psychedelic enthusiasts.

From a foundation of Oneness one can begin to weed out the dualistic aspects in our language, as well as our culture, as well as our relationships, that separate us from one another. As people go through this process of connecting the dots - oneness and how that is expressed in our personal relationships, oneness and how that is expressed in a local community - they can begin to see how what we do, as people or as communities, do not reflect that and begin to come into alignment with it.

It is a process.

Living from this perspective is fairly easy. When it gets hard, it is usually because of egotistical elements either still in our language or still in our heads and/or hearts.

Namaste,

Dude, just keep inviting people you normally wouldn't or go out to a place you normally wouldn't. Like minds gravitate.

Relate to them, then back to you

Perhaps find a topic that your target audience will be interested in, discuss it, and then present it from a different perspective. You could take something as pop-'art' as that apocalypse movie 2012, show it to a crowd, and then have an open discussion about it and also present other concepts of what 2012 might really mean (i.e. a mass consciousness awakening). That's just an example. You could play Tool videos and discuss the meaning in the vids and lyrics from a 'new age' perspective. You could do a slide of crop circles and decipher their meaning [while desperately trying to avoid the (nauseating) 'who makes them?' discussion].
I'm not suggesting you do those exact things - they're just examples of ways you might find something your audience is interested in, and then turn and relate it back to the 'evolver' perspective.

In my experience, bridging

In my experience, bridging the gap requires a "toning down." If I'm trying to share new ideas to someone who doesn't typically buy into any new age, conspirsacy theory, alternative explanations, etc. and if my ideas or viewpoints are slightly radical, out there, or just weird I have to tone the whole thing down.

I pick an idea, lets say global consciousness. I approach it from a very pragmatic and scientific standpoint. People have a hard time refuting a viewpoint no matter how odd when science is there to help support your claims. So I bring up schools of fish and how they move in unison as if operating under a global mind. Or how all these individual cells, creatures of their own consciousness, work together to create us a creature of a different consciousness. Then I may bring up the Global Consciousness Project and their research with random number generator. By bringing up comparisons that are tangible and already understood and backing it with scientic evidence, people become much more accepting of what ideas you have.

But first and for most I'd reccomend staritng small. Scaring away a potential "evolver" through a shocking radical idea is more likely than if their mind is only slightly blown, or stretched. Stretch their minds only just slightly beyond its current elasticity. You want it to stretch again not be broken and unwilling to stretch.

if well versed in these, a conversation among many can go along way. watch how it can evolve, it can go in any direction.
