I sat and sipped a concoction of flyagaric tea and orange juice from a flower cup that looked as though it was snatched from wonderland, sculpted by the creative mind that embarked on this trip with me to protect me from myself. I slowly gulped the tea, relaxing before our show, waiting to see IMAX for the first time. Swinging like a pendulum in a hammock out back I smoked some of my favorite herb to counteract the bubbling in my stomach. On the ride over my best friend, an amazingly gifted young lady, watched as I slowly transformed into a buffoon of childish madness. Ripples of multicolored light washed over the windshield, it was beginning, the vibrato of Grace Slick reverberated through my skull as she screamed "KEEP YOUR HEAD!" I had already began to fall down the rabbit hole and the movie theater was not even in sight yet. Neon Lights outlined the movieplex, the line was long and I was in no condition to wait, my balance was becoming an issue as I rocked in all directions trying to keep my composure.

Finally we went inside, got our glasses and walked in halfway through the previews. Finding it difficult to traverse stairs in my inebriated condition I dragged the tops of my shoes on the face of each step as I approached our open seats. We sat and got comfortable, awaiting our brain bombardment. My pulse was sporadic and I could feel my energy flowing outward, my friend was leaning on me, slowly rubbing my leg, her vibrations were gentle and soft. She was a perfect contrast to my psychotic and out of control energy, she contained me, prevented me from losing control. Without her help I don't know how safe I would have been.

Before the movie began an extremely long IMAX propaganda piece flashed in front of our eyes, boasting the clearest picture, biggest screen, "THE GREATEST MOVIE EXPERIENCE." "This is why I can't stand this country" I thought out loud. After we were assured that we were getting our moneys worth the tale began.

I have not read the books all the way through word for word. I do understand the story, symbolism and archetypes though. This movie was riddled with hidden gems and subliminal messages. I couldn't help but laugh at the goofy fire crotch she was set up to marry. She fled the proposal ceremony to think, but instead she followed the rabbit into the rabbit hole. The famous scene with the shrink drink was very well done, Tim Burton captured the whimsical confusion of wonderland from the very start. Cheshire Cat was by far my favorite character, the indifferent kitty with a grin from ear to ear. Vaporizing and vanishing, leaving a smokey trail, cat eyes and the infamous Chesh smile. Johnny Depp with bulging eyes and a gap in his teeth, "do you know why a raven is like a writing desk?" The mad hatter was well portrayed, a duality of psychosis, witty insanity and furious outbursts of rage, eyes changing color with his mood. March Hare was one of the looniest characters I have ever seen animated, pupils restricting and dilating chaotically, tossing glasses and laughing like a fool. His remarks were subtle, but hilarious if you caught what he said. The hookah smoking Caterpillar blew smoke in the audiences face, looking with his magnified monocle eye. He was wise and relaxed, smoking with the caterpillar would have been epic but smoking pot in a theater full of children might not have gone over so well.

The Red Queen was played perfectly. Snobby and self centered the relentless Queen screamed "Off with their HEAD!" more times than I could count. She was a source of comic relief, though she was tense it was hard not to laugh at the bulbous brained queen. Funnier though, was Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb, these fat morons made my night with their facial expressions, very superior animation, making a face with an expression of lost oblivion is a lot harder than people imagine.

I could feel the waves of poison rushing through my biochemistry, seeing Fly Agaric mushrooms with beads of water hanging from their caps reminded me of how amazing I felt. I wanted to jump through the screen to sit on top of one of the red capped bloomers and dig in.

Alice was witty and fun, well done acting from someone who is so unknown, especially beside Johnny Depp who can overshadow legends. This movie inspired me, madness is something that is becoming the norm. We are slowly approaching a transition into a wonderland of reality, where the impossible is possible. Soon everyone will be as mad as a hatter, or as whimsical as the Chesire Cat, or as benevolent as the white queen. Alice in Wonderland is a classic depiction of the battle of good versus evil, the savior is oblivious of their potential and their fate. We are all Alice, some have already gone down the rabbit hole, while others yearn to escape from the dull reality unable to find a rabbit to follow. The looking glass of the mind is becoming clearer, eventually everyone will fall and spiral through a vortex of revelation, only to spiral back up into a new land of infinite possibility. Remember what the dormouse said;
"Keep YOUR HEAD"
