For the past 2-3 weeks the Zeitgeist Movement have been screening the new film Zeitgeist :Moving Forward in Theaters. International screenings in 60 Countries and in 31 languages have been extremely successful. it's been quite the undertaking if you ask me. Now Zeitgeist: Moving Forward was just released online today. it's already topping many of the Youtube charts. So some of you may be asking "well now Jason, what is this Zeitgeist movement you keeping speaking of"
Zeitgeist, some may say is the film/movement that was one of the catalysts that begun to change the collective consciousness, along with such films as Loose Change. if you haven't seen any of the previous films then, please, please, please do yourself a favor and watch the new film Zeitgeist Moving forward. it may repeat many things you already know. many ideologies you already share. But the truly great thing the Zeitgeist Movement currently has is a solution. A solution to the economic, social, physical and mental problems of today. It's main thesis is the change from a monetary society to a resource based society. which after doing your homework, is the ONLY logical outcome if we want our civilization to grow and rise to say a type 1 civilization.
So please give it a watch. I'd also love to here your thoughts on the film, the movement, our current society, anything really. post a comment and let's a get a disccusion going.
Also, if you agree that this movement is the future then share this film with your facebook friends, myspace friends, twitter friends , evolver friends. everyone you can. and it would be great if you guys at reality sandwich would write an article on the film, mabye a review or something or just give your thoughts because i think the evolver movement and the zeitgeist movement share mabye 99% of the same ideologies. so why would we not all work together for the great good based on the 99% we agree upon, instead of keeping ourselves separated because of mabye the 1% we dont see eye to eye on.
watch it and think about it. :) have a great day
Jason

disappointed, once
disappointed, once again...
I feel that the film maker completely misses the mark with respect to the solutions to our problems. Like "Zeitgeist - Addendum" there is a lot of valuable information regarding our socio-economic problems which would benefit those audience members who are just beginning to wake up to the real world around them. But the solution proposed (ie. resource-based economy coupled with science and technology that is governed by sustainable system principles) is a good idea but on its own is simply irrelevant. What's required is a psycho-social upheaval within our culture; an evolution of consciousness within the minds of each and every human being. The gentleman speaker at the end of "Part 1:Human Nature" hints at this solution when he talks about how human nature is dependent on whether our human needs are met or not. The root problem within our culture is that often these human needs are not being met which leads to a "distortion" of human nature, or in other words psychotic (ie. non-empathetic) adult behaviour. It is called psycopathy and we are ruled by it. It manifests itself in individuals within business and government but moreso in the form of psychopathic legal entities called corporations, which have as many rights (if not more) than human beings. I was amazed at how the film failed to instruct the viewer on how to heal themselves (or help others) and then completley changes direction into the evils of monetary economics. Then the film launches into a romanticized daydream of what the world could be like if only we weren't suffering from a distorted human nature. The solutions proposed are amazingly short-sighted, and without a proper understanding of psychopathy and how to abolish it from our minds and culture, are a complete distraction.
Therefore, the missing piece of the puzzle is to KNOW THYSELF.
agree
I found these Zeitgeist films to be rambling and in some cases, factually incorrect.
I agree with you about the proposed solutions, they have to come from the inside-out. As long as society is lead by the inner-world of psycopathy, the external manifestations will lead to the same results. What we need are more empathetic and compassionate people in the world, not some techno-utopia or an upheaval of the monetary system. We need more empathetic inner worlds so that the outward manifestations will mirror that.
The meta-systems are not yet there to support aware and conscious humans; to create those meta-systems would replace the power and wealth structure. Power and wealth are sticky and want to stay where they are. That is the reality of the situation though.
I think the following are better choices (these are two of my favorites)
http://metanoia-films.org/psywar.php
http://metanoia-films.org/humanresources.php
Adam Curtis' are nearly as good (The Trap, The Power of Nightmares, The Century of the Self)
I think a lot of the dehumanizing effects of modern society can be traced back to a combination of Bernays/propaganda, Taylor/Efficiency Movement, and Skinner/Behaviorialism.
Unanimous
I guess it's unanimous that all see the weakness in the resolve suggested. I found it a bit ironic that the first part made such an effort to define `humanity' as a biological entity directly affected by its environment and that a more harmonious existence within the eco0system it is an integral part, that the second part distorts by predicating a bio-social system `structured' on technology and organized systems that is void of the primary variable in the soci0-economic equation: the human element. At what level of human population growth do you limit to maintain the sustainable utilization of resource as the resource is potentially finite whereas the reproductive capability of humans is unlimited. Who would be the one to post the STOP PRODUCTION sign on the proverbial birth-giving vagina?
Too bad so much time and effort spent yet void of realistic solution that in my view is incomprehensible without a `general reboot' of global society and that can not materialize without significant calamity be that man-made or natural - which ever comes first.

I CONCUR BUT, It is a Start
I have commend the first assessment completely. This has begun and it is very much from an Internal Awakening of the Self. And the power within that is only enhanced when Realization of Mother Earth is embraced as our charge thru stewardship, respect and the Higher Consciousness that has been ridiculed, belittled and made to be non-existent or arbitrary. In fact those waking are not sure where these new sensations are forming. So that said having a source to illustrate the huge picture playing out before everyone but no one wanting to see the Elephant in the corner is a Start albeit not truly grabbing the essence of where we are truly headed.
So they keep retooling this Ziet and I am hopeful it will embrace the essence of evolution within which is insinuated throughout the film. But it may need a more direct and approach.
Remember the majority of those viewing for the first time live, breath, eat and hold very close there TV world. So they would burn this out of hand if it wrapped itself in the true aspect of what's happening.... One must crawl before trying to stand and walk... and this is that vehicle... I believe...

This is what should of been shown last night following the theatre of "The state of the Union"....then let the people decide what is more important the illusion of money or the deeper love for the evolution of humanity?
Yes know thyself is important, in my humble opinion it is important to have alternatives because our supposed "govern-ments" are destroying and oppressing the essence of humanity.....
I feel that the film is
I feel that the film is causing a real shock on humans mind, one way or another.
This documentary has moved me greatly...
Brialliant in every way and REVOLUTIONARY!

Ground Up
I was disappointed that it mostly covered the same ground as the previous film, Zeitgeist: Addendum, while not including any info about how this movement intends to actually move forward and transition to a new society, other than the vague fantasy sequence at the end. Peter Joseph does not seem to be conscious of his own unconscious assumptions; I could make a documentary about him that said, "Science [GIVEN], Industrialism [GIVEN], Progress [GIVEN], Computers [GIVEN], Cities [GIVEN], Mining [GIVEN], Monolithic Totalitarian Global Homogeneity [GIVEN]" etc. I think those sacred cows should be questioned as well. As a Nonviolent Communication geek, was delighted with the focus on fundamental human needs, but when the prescription part of the movie came, once again the focus was all on the built environment and the needs of industry, and the idea of human needs seems to have been forgotten. I wanted to know what kind of a culture they had in mind--what would the people spend all day doing? Instead of a Resource-Based Economy, I would like to see a Needs-Based Economy. How about that? I was caught by the line, "nature is a dictatorship." While I agree with the line of thinking that led up to that section, this particular phrase seems to invite the corallary, "thus a dictatorship is only natural." I'm sure they'd say that the Venus Project is not really a dictatorship, since a supercomputer is the dictator, rather than a human demagogue. Don't worry, the machine knows what's good for you better than you do. The Resoruce-Based Economy is claimed to be "ground-up" and if this were to be imposed on the world with no chance to opt out, and no chance for indigenous peoples to opt out, we might indeed find ourselves ground up in the wheels of progress. As chilling as I find their Logan's Run vision of utopia, I'm thrilled to see such a robust denunciation of money, property and exchange.
I think I could make a better documentary on these same themes, and I've already begun filming it. It's called, "Forgiving D.C." I take Washington, D.C. as the central reference point for my critique that spans every major aspect of society as we know it. I think the answer lies in better human communication, conflict-resolution, and cooperative decision-making systems, not in giving our volition over to a computer.
Discussion, Discussion
I enjoyed the first Zeitgeist and enjoyed this one.
I think the people who are disappointed with these films are looking for more than they can actually offer. This film is a shiny documentary disguised, or advertised, as a solution. The filmmaker offers a lot of information here, but if you're looking for a neat and tidy blueprint on how to fix everything then of course you're going to be disappointed.
One thing I've noticed about the culture surrounding films like Zeitgeist and organizations like Evolver, is the need for some type of guru, and like any historical movement, leaders/gurus/presidents/kings come and go, leaving behind a disillusioned populace that spend more time bitching about the guru than contemplating the information contained in the gurus message.
This film is ripe with talking points, it is the intellectual soil we, as a movement, can plant and harvest from. The film maker is simply the messenger, it's the message that should take precedent.
I agree with Hellwell and
I agree with Hellwell and Nexus. His film once again focuses on science and technology as being the primary solution to our self-destructive path that we are currently on. While I somewhat agree to a certain extent with the film's explanation for the cause for our current situation I feel the film still falls short of the true and ONLY solution to our situation, and that is Unity. It is absolutely crucial that society reconnects with each other and begin working together and for each other selflessly without the expectation for compensation or reward. An organism at war with itself will die, and that applies to all aspects of Universe. While the film hinted at community participation, I felt the film underestimated the importance of community and the significance of the collective consciousness. As was mentioned earlier, technology in and of itself is completely irrelevant. If we don't come together then technology is moot. While I'm sure technology could potentially be a very useful tool, I do not view technology as THE solution but rather a possible result of THE solution, which is Us.
I agreed with Benjamin Stewart's, "Kymatica", much more.

I still enjoyed ZMF, and while I may not agree with everything in the film I still feel this film is having a profound effect throughout society across the planet, and is an excellent catalyst for waking people up.
If you make people think
If you make people think they are thinking, they will love you for it, but If you make people really think, they'll hate you for it.

disappointed, once again.
One crowning characteristic of Zeitgeist is its lack of balance and extreme stance on most of the messages it tries to deliver. The first two films blatantly opposed the United States almost explicitly- okay, that's all good because our culture is very sick. This doesn't address the countless countries still stuck in dark ages: children raised in brothels, prostitutes who are too young to have even developed breasts, spiritual and racial bigotry, countries still striving for atomic/nuclear/chemical weapons- war paranoia induced by weak and insecure countries, religious wars, etc. They also explicitly downplayed the archetypal significance and historical reality of the judeo-christian mythology/spirituality. Rather than affirming any of the historical legitimacy, Zeitgeist seemed to slander the Christ and Apostle archetypes, reducing their essence to mere zodiacal symbols. That maneuver is extremely counter-intuitive, counter-productive, and in its extreme reductionism nearly counter-progressive. This displays a rather specific and limited scope in respect to what seems to be the goal of the movement. The whole Zeitgeist team would do well to inform of the significance of the archetypes in a raw mythological form than to mash spiritually deconstructive and sociopolitical messages into a two hour stream of dubiously subliminal symbols and sounds (As with the very similar Esoteric Agenda and Kymatica films).
But in the other shoe its lack of balance and idealism are great for breaking the trance of religio-politiconsumerism that afflicts billions of people; the journey of watching revolutionary documentaries and having your worldview radically altered leads individuals to transcendence of the films themselves anyway. The most any of these films will do is assist individuals in finding a deprogrammed worldview, which is what is needed for world change. Unfortunately some of the older generations will see this as nazi gobbeldy-gook and schlockmeisterism. The passing of Saturn and revolution of Uranus will tell what is to come.

no real solutions
Two and a half hours of negative realities and about a half hour on positive solutions that while nice, are not within reach. The film ends with the suggestion that we burn our money. Right. Great. Thanks. Really?
LOL yeah destruction of
LOL yeah destruction of property. Like that'll make you free.

Moving Forward?
I was naive enough to presume from the title that this film would be about all the progress the Zeitgeist Movement has made in the 3 years since the last movie came out. I thought there'd be clips from their conferences, and self-congratulations for whatever progress they've made, pilot projects in the works, and detailed descriptions of their next strategic moves. I was hoping that it would show that their movement was a real movement with grassroots organizing and horizontal power-sharing, not just a fan club for Peter Joseph and Jacque Fresco . (They got the ball rolling for their group, but must they continue to function as gurus?) But alas, there was none of that, so I think the film would be better titled Zeitgeist: Treading Water.
While I don't want the Venus Project to take over the world, I'm very glad that these films are out there leading people to question the dominant power paradigm. I think it's very beneficial to have them in the cultural discussion. I'd love to see them have the chance to build a working prototype of their Tomorrowland city and move into it, so that they and the world could see if they actually enjoy the lifestyle they're advocating.
I don't expect too much from a documentary. After all, if you want to actually learn something, it's better to read a book, and to learn it really well, you need to do your own research and/or live it and then write the book. But a documentary has the power to show things, and I was hoping this movie would show some actual progress away from a money-based economy. Thank goodness the Zeitgeist Movement is not the only game in town.
I've seen all 3 of the
I've seen all 3 of the Zeitgeist movies. they are very informational in a evidential way. Sort of like the evil twin of "Infowars", who simply throw out crazy theories without much if any real scientific basis. I'd recommend anyone to watch Zeitgeist(s)
Don't Forget-
- the zeitgeist movement/ venus project have always had the same flaws
- a material rationalist bent that believes technology is the only solution to technological problems. They have in the past used other movements to gain traction and publicity and then abandoned them , they are willing to sacrifice allies , fellow travellers and anyone else who is not conforming or who is no longer of use. They used and discarded atheists, pantheists, Carlin and Sagan and 911 truthers in Z1, Used and discarded J. Khrisnamurti in Z3 , Who did peter and joseph trundle up the flag pole this time ?
"You cannot solve a problem from the same counciousness that created it" - Albert Einstein
I warned their locals back when they started , that they would never create a mass awareness movement without creating and maintaining an "enemy" and that would cost them the support of gaian based movements.
Their locals behave like brownshirts (all type "A") and none of them are willing to aknowlege their connections and roots in either "Technocracy" or "Eugenics"
or "the Military Industrial Complex"
" A rising tide - drowns those without boats " - Cee Are
"The object under your feet is always the dance floor " - Cee Are
Still doing their job...
I'd say the Zeitgeist movement is officially just another high pitch resource to offer folks who want to start a path of deprogramming and disillusioned worldview.
I would agree
This film can definitely start as a jumping off point from culturally sanctioned insanity into progressivism and a novel paradigm for the majority who are content/ignorant with the way things are. It is worth spreading in that sense, perhaps with a disclaimer about the solutions provided and a link to evolver
