Justin and I have discovered the secret to biking across the country during the summer… That secret you ask… 5am. That’s right 5 am. What we have discovered is if we wake up at 5am and are on the road by 6-7ish we have the most delighful ride. We have 3- 4 hours easy in nice cool weather with low low traffic and full light.

My wife and I are taking this trip cuz we wanted to see the country from a different perspective. We used to live in Portland (where i was the coordinator for Portland evolver) and decided to move to Brooklyn, NY. We figured this was a good way to get there.

Wow.

Yesterday (Thursday) we just rode through a dry barren landscape in 96 degree heat. We only made it about 20 miles and camped at Crow Butte park-- fatigued, hot and ready to pass out.
