To all the marine life in the Gulf of Mexico: I love you, I'm sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you. - Dave
* * *
Today I received several e-mails suggesting using ho'oponopono, the Hawaiian mantra of reconciliation and forgiveness, to give energy of love and gratitude to all life in the Gulf of Mexico. The messages actually referred to a "healing prayer" originally posted May 9 by water researcher Masaru Emoto, whose work was featured in the movie What The Bleep Do We Know? showing human words, thoughts and intentions influencing the structure of water molecules.
I was struck first by the timing of the multiple identical messages I received and then by the familiarity of the words I'd used and posted previously, even though neither Emoto nor the people who forwarded me his prayer referred to ho'oponopono. Here is the key excerpt of what Emoto wrote (typos in original):
"To whales, dolphins, pelicans, fishes, shellfishes, planktons, corals, algae and all creatures ion Gulf of Mexico
I am sorry.
Please forgive me.
Thank you.
I love you."
I was curious whether Emoto's own work had directly led him to formulate these words independently or if he had some connection to ho'oponopono. As I browsed his site I was pleased to learn about his Peace Project, and on this page to discover his collaboration with "Dr. Hew Ren," which actually turns out to be Ihaleakala Hew Len, Ph.D., who has been teaching about ho'oponopono for more than 20 years.
You may be skeptical about Emoto and/or Len. I'm not setting out to convince you ho'oponopono can stop the flow of oil or save all the marine life in the Gulf. My point here is honoring coincidences to see where the connected dots may lead; to consider the power of harmonizing the projection of our shared intentions; and to reiterate that my own personal experience with ho'oponopono has shown me it is a way to maintain a sense of peace and physical relaxation in the face of otherwise traumatic or disturbing circumstances.

"Bless you!"
WOW, wonderful!
Hew Len's Ho'oponopono process is something I do a lot... Mostly before/while I drift off to sleep @ night. Or, for example, when wanting to interrupt/curb an unwanted spiral of thoughts.
I always add a little blessing to 'my' ho'oponopono. I.e. saying/thinking things as:
"I'm sorry, please forgive me... Thank you, I love you; bless you"
(I also came up with a response to those five:
"All is perfect, I forgive you... You're welcome, I love you, too; bless you"}
Sometimes, simply leaving out the I's & you's rings right, as follows:
"Sorry... please forgive. Thanks! Love, & blessings*"
Another tip:
Speak it from the perspective of the 'culprit'... I.e., (imagine} YOU are, for example, BP, while proclaiming:
"I'm sorry, please forgive me... Thank you, I love you; bless you."

Thanks for this post.
I admit, I have recognized the power in hoʻoponopono in the past, but don't consciously remember to extend it very often.
I live in Alabama, a couple of hundred miles from the coast. The other day I came across some dramatic ideas about how bad the Gulf devastation could get, and how extensive geographically the damage can spread, inland. I sat at my desk, gazing at the vista of trees and sky outside my window, and found myself very earnestly extending hoʻoponopono to all of my beloved trees and the lives they support.
Shortly after, I too received the email with Emoto's message, and an invitation to a gathering yesterday with a group of folks in northeast Alabama for a healing ritual, with submergence in a waterfall, and an intentional focus on practicing hoʻoponopono. We were unable to be there, but I was grateful in knowing my energy was being invoked by the group, and adding to their light. I'm grateful to know there are others across the globe, doing what they can, as they can, wherever they are.
At this point, it does feel like some kind of extraordinary intervention might be the only way to alter the current course of events, and I'm feeling like we all to be soooo conscious in invoking the divine with our every breath.
The fact is, since we're all here co-creating this experience, we are all responsible for it. I did not personally take action against off-shore drilling in the past. I knew I didn't like the idea, but I remained inactive. I remained ignorant about the fact that deep water drilling was occurring with this complete lack of oversight and ethics. We know ways we haven't responded in the past to situations we have co-created... The question now staring us in the face is, how are we committed to responding now?
This definition of hoʻoponopono is powerful...I share it in order that the light it bestows might be shared with you all...
Peace.
(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ho%27oponopono)
“Hoʻoponopono” is defined in the Hawaiian Dictionary as “mental cleansing: family conferences in which relationships were set right through prayer, discussion, confession, repentance, and mutual restitution and forgiveness.”
Literally, hoʻo is the equivalent to the English “to”. It creates a verb from the noun pono, which is defined as “goodness, uprightness, morality, moral qualities, correct or proper procedure, excellence, well-being, prosperity, welfare, benefit, true condition or nature, duty; moral, fitting, proper, righteous, right, upright, just, virtuous, fair, beneficial, successful, in perfect order, accurate, correct, eased, relieved; should, ought, must, necessary.”
Ponopono is defined as “to put to rights; to put in order or shape, correct, revise, adjust, amend, regulate, arrange, rectify, tidy up, make orderly or neat.”

I feel like people can quickly embrace ho'oponopono when it's described.
